These depictions were taken from the Codex Manesse. Given your tiny pictures, I assume you don't know that it has been fully digitalised. http://digi.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/diglit/cpg848. Otherwise, I'd recommend looking into the illuminations on Froissart's chronicles, which usually fall into the late 14th to early 15th century. For something more 15th century-ish, there is the Hausbuch Wolfegg which shows a late medieval army group, or you could take a look at fencing manuals, e.g. Talhoffer's.

>Dyḗus Ptḗr
"The Shining Sky Father" is the most important deity of the Proto-Indo-Europeans. His very name is related to *déiwos – he is the god. It is recognizable in the Roman Jupiter, Oscan Dípatír, Umbrian Iupater ((((Weiss))), 2010, 211), Sabellian Dipoteres, Marrucinian Ioues patres, Greek Zeus Pater, Illyrian Dei-paturos (or Dei patyro: Winn, 1995, 22), Vedic Dyaus Pitar, Baltic Dievas, Luvian Tatis Tiwaiz, Palaic Tiyaz Pāpaz, and Germanic *Tiwaz (later Týr). (Some of these are from West, 2007, 166-7.) Among...

>Dyḗus Ptḗr is the transcendent lord. He is the protector of the Xártus, the enforcer of natural law. At Sparta there was a temple to Zeus Cosmetas, “Zeus the Orderer” (Pausanias 3.17.4). Dyḗus Ptḗr may therefore be called Xártupotis, "Lord of the Xártus."

Is Brinkmann's reconstruction of how classic Greek statuary was painted accurate or do you image he's made them appear significantly more gaudy than they truly were?
Definitely more gaudy. No way someone spends the time learning to craft those statues then painted them like a child.
It's a reproduction of the first coat, not the final painted item. Given that color was inherently precious they were probably more gaudy than we normally imagine, but not as ugly as these reproductions.
>he's made them appear significantly more gaudy than they truly were?
probably this, he needed to sell the novelty, the more shocking the better. Besides, such lively colors on stone are achieved with modern synthetic paints.

A cool topic, but kind of hard to post about
Why is Communism so easy to break? Communism only lasted for as long as Lenin was alive in the USSR, because after that Stalin came in and turned it into a murder house which after that just became a boogeyman. China is the worst example, they demolished the old culture which the could have easily kept, it was probably due to the impact the second world war had on the citizens and that they wanted something new that the old government didn't. But the Chinese during the Cultural revolution killed a lot of people, most of them were just Tibetan monks and people who didn't...

If an all-knowing alien visited the earth and said that the polar opposite political belief is the way to true prosperity, would you embrace that belief?
>>951979
Frankly, probably not, I'd be too worried the aliens would be showing up to take over. And what better way to destroy a native population than to have them do it themselves.
Now, if they actually show some proof they're benevolent and just trying to help, sure, but I'd also be wary of trusting someone who's basically saying "Well it worked for me!" when my biggest complain with most ideologies is that they exist in a vacuum and setting that has never appeared before in human history....

I don't think the Bostonians who threw tea into the harbor that night hated "mudskins" that much, considering America's good relations with West African Muslim countries early on, disregarding (or even taking into account) the Barbary Wars.
Or are you breaking the 25-year rule?
>>987279
In what way is he breaking the 25 year rule my reddit friend?
He isn't asking about the history of the 2010 tea party, he's just comparing a guy from two millenia ago to a today's party so he can understand the situation better and mayhaps even draw parallels
>>987284
What?
The comparison breaks the rule.
The French settlers in America played a big role, founded many cities and states, but it feels like they're somehow forgotten by now. Many white Americans boast about their German, British, Irish or Polish heritage, but where are the French-Americans?
Is there any good literature about the works of French settlers in the USA? What about the Cajuns? Do they have a distinct culture or is their population size too small to be relevant?
>>986938
Because the French got btfo by the English. And this defeat was added to the long and growing list of pathetic French defeats.
Why would anyone be proud to be or celebrate these losers?
