In 30's intellectuals and by extension - left wing politicians shifted from more or less independent socialist/communist parties to be NKVD(later KGB) stooges. The interest of USSR was the interest of left wing intellectuals and parties. With the labour unions being taken over by fascism it turned into circlejerk up to the point where reasonable people like Orwell had easier time being praised by right wingers than being praised by other left wingers like themselves.
USSR died but in the beginning the stooges did damage control and after some time they've tried to promote some kind of pro-Russian policy up to the point where they've realised that Putin isn't sharing their views on stuff. When did Roman Catholics start becoming slack with Fasting? Today it's only an hour of fasting before communion, but I know it goes back way further since eating fish throughout Lent has been permissible for a while, whereas fish, oil, eggs, dairy products and meat are all prohibited in Orthodox Christianity during lent, except on the Weekend when oil and wine are permitted. Also Wednesday and Fridays are fast days (the Didache supports this), no oil, wine, meat, dairy, eggs or fish, but I don't think Roman Catholics observe that anymore (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

I've read the bible very carefully - there are no direct or precise explanations but rather the general idea of God being the origination point and the supreme Creator, guider of creation - but it does not say God did this according to our concepts, it is said God works in mysterious ways that humans are not able to understand.
Do not dismiss evolution, it is backed by so much proof and its laboratory tested.
Adam was not physical, Eden was not part of this universe - it came down here. Adam took human flesh - this is a lower state of being.
What the tradition explains about this is that the human soul got created when Adam took human flesh. There is no one to say that evolution did not happen in this reality for the conditions of man to be fully developed.
You should read what the early holy fathers wrote about the chapter of Genesis, also what the athonite monks wrote about it - they describe it in great details.
