Was the oil embargo on Japan right from what is happening today? Had we assisted the Japanese Empire what would have happened? Would the war have ended faster if our resources were not drained on the Pacific theater?

Although what the Japanese empire did was not correct in what they did, what was the point of angering a non-communist Empire hellbent on destroying China and taking over the east?

If America hadn't intervened in any way, the Japanese would probably have still been fighing a fruitless war in China. Russia was right out, and they still needed oil and empire, so they would have come into conflict with the British sooner or later, and probably the Americans due to the alliances at the time.

And Germany was given a higher priority, even if a vast amount of resources was given to naval warfare. The US already had a lot of ships though, so it's difficult to estimate what difference it would have made.

As far as the point of the embargo, the US were nominally allied with China, and nobody wanted the Japanese to carve their way through Asia. They were always a threat, in other words, and they were very clearly gunning for the top dog position, and weren't hesitant about conquering everyone else to do so. China wasn't a threat, Japan was. Remember there's any number of industrial interests out that way as well for the rest of the world, and Japan also endangered those, if you're being purely pragmatic about it.

No, a right Christian is driven by love, Luther was driven exclusively by spite and did the Devil's work.
>>
Yes, christianity was originally a spiritual doctrine, Jesus himself advocated selling all your posessions, that was a way of showing that, in order to follow him you don't need any worldy things such as altars or sacrificies or special rituals or icons. One-ness with god comes from within, by the spirit, through the word of the son aka Jesus.
>>

Yes.

The Catholic Church had strayed from the teachings of Jesus and was only interested in money, idol worship, pagan traditions, sex with their sisters and, as it turns out, sex with little children as well (although Luther was not aware of the latter).

All Catholics will burn in Hell for their heresy against The Lord. So will the Orthodox for refusing to believe the Bible.

You have to have at least some kind of quantification as a starting point.

If you have a number that represents the "great value" of childcare, let's hear it so we can pile it on to the GDP. Otherwise it's just an incidental.

For many of the lower class, the cultural conservativism that often comes with Marxism is a lot more attractive than the libertarian socialists, who seem to be out of touch bourgeoisie.

Who is responsible for the Conservatives becoming seen as the party of the rich? Disraeli created One Nation conservatism, emphasising the support of the poor by the wealthy. Following in the same tradition, David Cameron's goal is clearly to be seen as the "party of working people" of all classes and backgrounds, cast in contrast to Labour as the party of NEETs and profligates. Somewhere between the two the Conservatives developed an image of being in opposition to the interests of the working class. Who did that? Was it Thatcher, or was it earlier than that?

Maybe because the only credible opposition theyve had for the last century have explicitly defined themselves as working for the poor, so its natural for the tories to be seen as for the rich. They also seem to be less representative of society than they used to be, osbourne cameron bojo etc are easy to stereotype as posh out of touch southerners, whereas someone like macmillan, even if he was from london, at least had a northern constituency
>>
>>603517
It was when Conservative became attached to defending the capitalist mode of production, and defending the bourgeois class's power in society.

This was in contrast to the notions of Burke, and even the limited (though fading) influence of the aristocracy, and the aristocratic mindset on Disraeli.

The Bourgeois spirit has no sense of noble obliges, and no sense of relationship between the classes, or the need to pass on a legacy to the future.

The lack of all these things are necessary to thrive in the capitalist mode of production. And so Conservativism became wedded to defending a class that eat's it's own children, and the poor can see that.

They are the most rabid defenders of the neo-liberal, free market fundamentalist doctrine in Europe.
Any sensible person could not disagree that

> These policies rip the heart out of communities.
> They condemn large portions of the working class to becoming an underclass.
> It demands that a government must slap down any arguement that human needs should slow down the pace of de-regulation and the freedom of capital and labour.
> Neo-liberal narratives shift the blame of policy failure onto individuals - "get on your bike and find work." Where as there is an argument for less state coddling, this is absurd for particular sections of the population (the disabled, people with no skills and poor education.)

No matter how you sugar coat this, the fundamental fact that the Conservatives are happy to flush large parts of the population down the toilet to fit this country into a neo-liberal Procrustean bed is pretty divisive stuff as it is mostly the poor who suffer.

Why do they succeed? We have a mostly pliant media that does not discuss the wider context and systemic issues - e.g.
Housing crisis - "look at all those immigrants getting council houses."
ISIS - "Evil terrorist sickos! Help us Government!"

So I've been a casual student of history for practically all of my life. A pattern I noticed, is that it seems that virtually no one has ever risen from peasantry to controlling an empire, or leading a successful rebellion.

I was reading The Prince, and I guess my reading comprehension was off because I could have sworn he said that Cyrus - The one Xenophon wrote about, rose from a private station, to a private in the army, eventually becoming an officer, and then a general, and eventually leading a coup and starting his own empire.

So I read the actual book my Xenophon, and although Cyrus was undoubtedly a noble, virtuous, and ambitious man who played his cards very wisely, both his father, and grandfather were kings. So I was kind of disappointed.

My question to you, is can you think of any times a private citizen was able to raise an army and form their own empire?
