All of the men in this picture died. Some of them died with frozen shit and piss molded into their legs if that part of their body died first. Some of them will contract disease and be thrown from buildings by their comrades. Most of them will starve or freeze to death, however the lucky ones will be killed in combat.

Of the 600,000 Wehrmacht one the eastern front, 100,000 were alive at the fall of Stalingrad. of the 100,000 that surrendered, less then 5,000 survived.

Does anyone else get very sad when they study history, particularly great individuals?

I recently watched the 'Alexander' movie Ultimate Edition (this thread isn't about the movie), and I realised when it ended that nothing I ever do in my life could even come close to that.

I'm sort of miffed I won't be able to leave my mark on the history books like he did.

Within 4 generations, no one will have known you even existed - much less care about you. However, names like Caesar, Napoleon and Alexander the Great will live on for thousands of years.

Just get a high score.

How did the Japanese or the Korean people arise? Apparently both countries used to share the Chinese language script until they each adopted their own.

Why the difference between Korea/Japan and China? Is this merely a social phenomenon or could the difference in the few IQ points be traced back to geographical explanations?

My guess is that for Korea, Sejong made Hangul and rice paddy fags could learn how to read and write.
>>

They were all part of a giant east asian linguistic and cultural family. China itself is still made up of different major cultures, and languages. The government there is working for a common language that we all know as manderin. Korea, and japan were just never under any major chinese dynasty because of geography mostly. Japan is a bit off on it's own though. They have some influences that I'm not sure people haven't pin pointed yet.

I would give your thread an elaborate, concise reply, (spent one year abroad in South Korea, doing "South Korea Studies", at Korea University) but you had to be the biggest fucking faggot and bring up IQ tests and your little "rankings". Eat shit. I will never understand this fucking /int/ bullshit mentality.

Hey /his/,

Why do we focus on the Vikings (memes or not) when we talk about the history of Scandinavia. There's so much other awesome history there - the Christianization, the stave churches, the Baltic trade, the Dano-Swedish struggle for hegemony, the Stormakstiden, Gustavus Adolphus, the Deluge, the Kalmar Union, Talvisota, the rescue of the Danish Jews, the Shetland Bus, the sabotage of the Vermork hydro-plant, Sweden's double-edged neutrality, the death of Olof Palme and Dag Hammarskjold, and the social changes of the postwar era.

ITT we talk about Scandinavian history - no Vikings allowed edition.

For example, did you know that Swedish troops destroyed more of Poland than the Nazis? Or that the Danes have preserved the pike that killed the first Swede to step on the walls of Copenhagen during the Swedish assault of 1659?

The poles are still mad about the Deluge (aka the great swedish cuckolding of Poland). Even to this day their butts are still blistered at the mention of sweden. They fear we will cuck them yet again.

I think you mean "least worst." And he's a sports historian. He was only picked by the channel because he has good showmanship, familiar with youtube formats since he had a youtube series before this one, and (just barely) comes from the same background the show is about.
>>
No, the best would be John Green :)

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times but I'm going to go ahead and ask it anyway. Is a Philosophy degree worth my time and money? There's almost no arguing that if I want to earn lots of money there are degrees that are in much higher demand that will almost certainly help me achieve that goal much easier than a Philosophy degree will. So if I was to take a degree in Philosophy it would be for the sake of taking a Philosophy degree and the love of knowledge. However, is it really necessary to take a degree in Philosophy to pursue Philosophy? I don't see myself ever wanting to dedicate my entire life to Philosophy but I would still consider it to be one of the most valuable things in life. I have actually already applied for a Computer Science degree and have already received conditional offers but its not too late for me to change my mind. Computer Science is something that I am also interested in and it will also mean having great graduate prospects.

Get a good analytical philosophy degree from a top school and be the spawn of the rich and you'll be asked to solve major financial problems and make rich men richer.

I don't think you have the mind for that though.

How else can I obtain analytical skills obtained in a Philosophy degree without a Philosophy degree

The interactions of a senate competing for power, the amazing power and intimidation senators could work with as senators among kings, the ruling through client kingdoms. That was interesting and unique. When they got one monarch and turned into an orthodox empire, there just wasn't much to them, it's boring.

Okay, sure.

Germany was occupied by 4 powers.

Turkey was a revolutionary nationalist state out of the guts of the Ottomans.
>>
Because Germany was made to deal with the practical consequences of war.

Hitler wasn't just seen as some guy who killed a bunch of minorities and foreigners, he was seen as a guy who caused Germany to be bombed to shit and then split in half.

Also, the Western allies made absolutely sure to see that the Germans were aware of the consequences of their actions.

Nothing like this happened for Turkey.
