oh fuck

Hello, /his/. I've been having a thought that I can't quite just put down, so I wanted to share it with you and ask what you think of it.

Suppose I have a device. This device is capable of taking an object, making a note of its qualities and quantities at the moment, and then later forcing the object in question back to that noted state. To visualize this, imagine a sink: it starts empty, you can fill it with all sorts of things, and then you can remove or drain those things to bring it back to how it was when you started.

Now, imagine this device is so good at its job, that it can make whatever its used on absolutely identical to what it was noted as, down to the atomic level; every last particle and sub-particle in its prior place. Pretty impressive, huh? Of course it doesn't just make something from nothing, you understand; it just puts what was removed from or added to the object back into their proper places.

Now imagine that this device can work on biological things as well. The little device is capable of putting everything that changed in your brain and body back to what it was when it started; all the subtle changes formed when memories were made, poof! Gone like they never happened.

Now imagine that this device can work on everything at once. Everything in creation is affected by it; even the universe itself is wrenched back down to its previous size. From the largest celestial body, to the smallest sub-atomic particle, put back into their noted places.

So my question to you it, with this miraculous device that can make everything as it was before, and make everything forget it happened in the first place:

Is this not, in effect, time travel?

>Is this not, in effect, time travel?

No.

So much text for such easy question.
>>
>>1067250
Why not?
Everything is exactly as before, with no memories of anything happening. If someone were to prevent their memories from becoming tampered, would that not be the equivalent of traveling back through time?
>>
>>1067260
The effect is not produced by "traveling through time", but by atomic reshuffling, therefore it isn't "time travel".

It isn't that difficult to comprehend.

Are foxes "domesticateable"? No?

Cuz Russians managed to domesticate them.

I guess it's theoretically possible to achieve, by breeding those which are most tame and affectionate to humans for lots of generations.

But if you're really claiming they've domesticated foxes to a similar level as cats and dogs I'm going to need some proof.
>>
>>1066811
Better question, why exactly would you want to domesticate a fox? They smell like piss and make everything around them smell like piss.

Oh wait, the piss bottles in your room probably have the same effect. Fuck off foxcuck.
>>
>>1066840
>Better question, why exactly would you want to domesticate a fox?

This, they aren't pack animals like dogs, and if you have to feed them yourself, then they aren't as economical as a cat.

This one tbqh.

The Indian Ocean is severely underrated. Let's have a thread about it. Discuss anything relevant, whether it's ancient Roman trade with India or 17th century American pirates.

Why do you the Portuguese were able to dominate this whole ocean so easily in just over a decade? Between 1497 and 1511 they took Hormuz, Goa, Sofala, Kilwa, and Malacca, which might sound like a bunch of random place names, but they were among the greatest ports in the world at the time.

Personally, I'd say it was because the Portuguese came from between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, both seas with long histories of naval warfare. In comparison, the Indian Ocean had a fairly peaceful history and the cultures living along it were less prepared for European styles of naval warfare. While the Mediterranean had been filled throughout its history with cultures ranging from the Phoenicians to the Ottomans that tried to militarily dominate it, the Indian Ocean only experienced two short-lived and very limited attempts at any kind of 'domination'; that of Rajendra Chola I in the 11th century and of Zheng He in the 14th. The latter didn't even come from the Indian Ocean itself, but like the Portuguese came from another civilization with a long history of advanced naval warfare. You could argue that coming under domination from outside was an inevitability in such a rich but passive region. If the Europeans hadn't come to rule it, it might have ended up under the rule of the Ottomans or maybe even China.

Anyone disagree or have another theory?

Another factor to consider is that Portugal had no real European competitor in the Indian Ocean. Portugal had a fantastic naval tradition built up by Henry the Navigator and more experience navigating around the african coast than any other country in the world really. Spain had set its focus on the Americas and it took several more decades for the other European powers to start competing.

The drive to conquer these places was immense. Literally the worlds riches were in Indonesia and India, so Portugal would do anything to take those ports.

Finally, like any good European power, they were perfidious. In that, while seizing local ports, they made allies with other empires and locals (for example, the hindu pirate Timoji).

Was Cao Cao truly as brutal as people claimed him to be or was he just hated because he wasn't traditional leader?
Was Liu Bei only liked because he was pro-Han?

Liu Bei fapping is only prominent in Southern China.

Cao Cao meanwhile is a hero in the North. He is also remembered as a poet. Him and one of his sons, Cao Zhi (who was more famous as a poet.)
>>
>>1054751
>Was Liu Bei only liked because he was pro-Han?
Lord Cao was more pro-Han than Liu Bei could ever hope to be. Lord Cao spent thirty of his life years fighting battle after battle, all for the sake of Han. He literally devoted his life to the cause of restoring Han.

He's hated because his reputation for deceptive maneuvers on the battlefield made it easy to slap his name onto the "evil trickster" stock character archetype in any random made-up story any common storyteller could want to tell, so it kept on happening until the name became synonymous with "evil trickster."
>>
>>1054751
Reminder that Cao Cao did not usurp the Han. Cao Pi did, because Cao Pi was worthless and became a puppet to Sima Yi, just like the Han emperor was a puppet to Cao Cao, and Sima Yi's son usurped Cao-Wei.

>>1054840
Also propaganda. Current ruling dynasties usually try to make the dynasty that ruled before bad, and the dynasty before that or opposition to it good.

Why are Vikings venerated so much?

They weren't nice, they weren't cultured, they weren't worth ANYTHING. Yet people focus on them with the same sort of puerile psychology found in Chad worship. Why?
61 posts and 15 images submitted.
>>
They had culture. Look at forn seidr and all their skaldic poetry. Look at their wood, stone, and metalwork.

They're venerated because never has any group of people (who wasn't from rome) throughly subjugated europe, and objectively they were handsome. Compared to Non-germanic skulls, Scandinavia skulls exhibit a high level of facial symmetry. Plus, thanks to a warm period, the vikes grew taller than most continentals. And as their society was merit driven (yeah, the modern Scandinavian obsession with taking part in society goes back further than this); a rando peasant could, through guile and bravery, become an actual owner of a farm across the ocean, or enough gold to buy one in Scandinavia. Anyone who wanted to could fuck off and live somewhere else, or just steal shit until their problems were fixed.

It's any "barbarians take over" story. The Vikings are essentially the Amorites of medieval europe. Plus they built better boats for Atlantic/river voyages than anyone else.

And the reason nobody hates them is because the modern practitioners of forn seidr are not suicide bombers, and instead stress the equality of women and importance of science. We hate dunecoon barbs because they're still around, and ironically They're emigrating to the hearth of the northmen.

You're Hitler. What next? Can you still win the war?

Okay I'll make defensive lines towards Russia but I mobilize most of my troops toward Western Yurop. I tell Norway to invade Iceland and if they're successful, move down against Scotland where the Germany Navy and Airforce will move upwards from the south, completely surrounding Britain.

Once Britain is surrounded completely, we invade, destroy Britain, conquer it, and then wait for the Americans and Canadians to arrive.

Meanwhile I put some of my other troops from the Western Front into the Eastern Front just in case Russia wants to invade my defensive line, in order to strengthen the defensive line some more.

I win as Hitler, Third Reich confirmed.
>>
>>1058658
At this stage in the war, not even Hitler knew he could win. At best he was hoping for a white peace or a stalemate
>>
>>1058680
With what navy do you invade with? Even if you somehow land a force massive enough to beat the British, how do you resupply them, dodging the fire of the superior RAF while at the same time avoiding the laughably superior RN?

Was there ever a way for Native Americans to prevent European colonization?

>no guns
>no metal tools / weapons
>no large scale organized military (except maybe the Incas?)
>hugely susceptible to European diseases

I've tried to think of ways that the NAs could have stopped the Europeans but just can't think of one

Maybe they could have fought off some of the initial settlers but if the Europeans started coming in greater numbers with greater weapons NAs wouldn't stand much of a chance, and once disease takes over they are done

The Mesoamericans were only conquered because Cortez freaked out. It was avoidable. In Africa, India, Japan, China trade was set up without conquering the natives so the same is possible in America. Until the 19th century at least but if the Natives played their cards right they would be better equipped to hold them off at that stage.

Any naval battle in the 17th and 18th centuries was epic as it gets. Earlier sea vessels were comparatively small time, and later ones were so gigantic that they were used for support, intimidation and strategic bombardment, so ship-on-ship combat was somewhat more rare and less exciting.

The Spanish Armada.
Queen Elizabeth I of England had increasingly become a figurehead for the Protestant struggle in France and the Netherlands, where the Dutch were in revolt against Spanish rule. Her subjects had enraged the Spanish King by raiding his American possessions and even the coastline of Spain itself: Drake sacked Cadiz in 1587 and the Earl of Leicester was leading an English contingent assisting the Dutch revolt in the Netherlands.

The Pope excommunicated Elizabeth and issued an encyclical absolving Catholics from their allegiance to the English Crown, encouraging a series of plots to murder the Queen, who in turn beheaded the Catholic Mary Queen of Scots in 1587, the focus of the plots. Mary’s execution was the final spur for the Spanish invasion of England.

For the Spanish the Armada was a religious crusade marked by a number of crusader emblems.180 priests and monks accompanied the fleet and the crews were enjoined to strict religious observance and conduct.

Central to the Armada was the mass of merchant vessels, known as hulks or urcas, converted for war by the addition of higher fore and after castles and a greater complement of guns and carrying the Spanish army with its artillery and baggage. Many of these ships came from the towns of the Hanseatic League in the Baltic. Flagship of the “hulk squadron" was the Gran Grifon from Rostock.

I don't think that the Norse settlements that were found up in Newfoundland were permanent to begin with. More like temporary stops or warehouses than residences, if I remember correctly. Anyways, a combination of fighting with the skrælings, if the sagas are to be believed, and environmental pressures probably kept the small number of Norsemen who were sailing around the area from pitching their tents for the long haul.

> The Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn, killed in early May 2002, two weeks before he was expected to gain one-fifth of the vote, was a paradoxical figure: a right-wing populist whose personal attributes and opinions (for the most part) were almost perfectly “politically correct”: He was gay, had good personal relations with many immigrants and possessed an innate sense of irony, etc.—in short, he was a good, tolerant liberal with regard to everything except his basic political stance. He opposed fundamentalist immigrants because of their lack of tolerance toward homosexuality, women’s rights, religious differences, etc. What he embodied was thus the intersection between rightist populism and liberal political correctness. Perhaps he had to die because he was living proof that the dichotomy between right-wing populism and liberal tolerance is a false one—that we are dealing with two sides of the same coin.

He's probably the most dangerous personality around right now.
Trying to normalize the Neo-Nazis and fascists on the Alt-Right detracts from both the true nature of the Alt-Right (i.e. it doesn't care about tolerance and people like Milo are only tolerated because "muh Jews, we need a gay man to say these things," not because anyone on the Alt-Right thinks he's cool). He's a piece of shit.
