Yes. The natural life cycle for historical figures is thus:

> birth > childhood > adolescence > young adulthood > middle age > old age > death > homosexuality > blackness

We all know who was the greatest president of USA and who was the greatest emperor of Holy Roman Empire. But who was the greatest ruler in the history of Africa ruler?

In recent history? Probably Menelik II of Ethiopia.

Fought off the Italians, began modernisation efforts, centralised a large part of the bureaucracy and tax code, tried to maintain something of a stable inheritance.

Not extremely impressive, but it's Africa after all.

What really happened there, /his/?

Some teenage caveboy got into trouble for fooling around with the Neanderthal girl two valleys down so his parents grounded him and sent him to the cave where he scribbled on a rock out of boredom.

Hey guys, I am from /toy/, thought you might like to hear about a new line of Figures from Bossfight Studios - it's a line of Greek Warriors and Mythical beasts. (vitruvian HACKS)

Anyway, I have a few and was wondering if you could help me, I want to customise my Spartans so that they are really accurate.

Pic related, the base Figure for the Spartan.

You could start by exchanging those swords for a shield and spear. Hardly any real warriors in history used dual swords except I think some Indonesians or Cambodians or something

Are there any accounts by Europeans on the effectiveness of the armors used by various indigenous peoples compared to European armor?

The wooden branch armour sometimes used by north americans was pretty good against clubs. Ditto for the padded gear the mesoamericans used

But how did it hold up to, say, steel swords? Depending on thickness, I would think it might be able to withstand swords (though I am skeptical of polearms).

There is the Ichcahuipilli which is cotton laced and braided, layers of cotton that in a way is like the gambeson, meant to soften blows by the layers.

How effective it is? Against flint arrows it is great, it works like intended, against steel everything else (swords/lances/bullets/maces) I highly doubt they would be of any use, there is however people here that will say that they were good enough to deflect bullets or that swords cannot do a thing to these but most of the time they are the same ones that claim that the Macuahuitl could cleave through an armored knight and horse in a single swipe so my opinion of this armor and weapon is leaning towards the same as the ones that claim that the katanas are essentially lightsabers

How is Turkish history taught in Turkish schools?

Do they go all the way back to ancient Persian/Mespotamian empires? Do they cover the Roman empire? Or does there history not focus on that stuff and start with the Ottomans?

ITT we justify atrocities. Post your favourite genocide, war crime, mass murder or any other thing and justify it.

>In the 13th century the Mongols conquered modern day Iraq and destroyed their irrigation system leading to great loss in productive capacity.

Iraqis had it coming and the Mongols really did them a favour, like a father disciplining a child.

The fertile cresent used to be covered in lush forests, but being irresponsible, the population destroyed the forests and desertified the land leading to a collapse, Destruction of their irrigation canals helped them adopt a more responsible mode of production.

the actions against Hereros and Namas in Namibia 1904 were actually quite justified because the indigenous behaved like savage animals

Ask a guy whose girlfriend just sold my $1,800 leaf from a 14th century manuscript at our garage sale for $10 anything

Yes, I am dead inside, next question. No, I will never trust a woman with sorting out which antiques are okay to sell and which aren't again, next question.

Did medieval soldiers suffer from PTSD? If they did are there any historical accounts of it? I've only ever heard it talked about in the context of modern warfare.
111 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>1064007
It was probably very rare if it happened ever. Medieval warfare and before was much slower than the rapid warfare of WW1 and on. There also weren't any weapons which could cause a spontaneous change in the senses like artillery could, which is the cause of shellshock.
>>
Shakespeare's Hotspur clearly has it, so the idea was not unknown to a 16th century audience.
