Who was the greatest female ruler?
1. Victoria
2. Elizabeth II
3. Catherine the Great
Wait, I meant Elizabeth I. Number II hasn't really done anything of significance.
What went wrong?

By merit, Wei. By lineage, Shu (allegedly). By being backstabbing fucks, Wu.
Personally I pick Wei.

What does /his/ think of Crash Course History? Fair and balanced view of world history or literal trash?
Beyond being trash. Constantly tries to push a far-left agenda. See his video on Alexander the Great.
Total garbage. John Green is a hack in every field he's wormed his way into.
>>26020
It has a left-leaning bias but isn't too bad. I don't agree with it being used in schools but whatever. Guess that's the quality of AP History.
Anyone up for an art thread?

The story behind this picture is great.
Why have views on prostitution have changed over time?
whores weren't necessarily treated with the up most respect but it was viewed as something a society needed.
>>25924
How have they changed? Prostitution is still legal and accepted in a lot of countries, and they're still not treated with the utmost respect.
Increasing belief in the perfectability of society and man.
Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
Tell me about Vlad the Impaler.

He got fucked by his cousin Mathew. Lead to him being imprisoned by the turkish. Had rough pollicies and it is considered one of the bloodiest in the history of the romanian people. His cousin Steven the Great was actually the bloodshedding tard...but he covered that up by building monasteries and shit.... Had nothing toddo with dracula, never led Transilvania...he was assigned to rule the ,,Romanian country,, as it was called back then when Romania was divided in 3: Moldova, Transilvania, The romanian country
>>25833
Fought for the independence of the romanian people. Tried to end the hungarian opression, kept the southern border where it was...made safe trading routes....was based af like all the romanian leaders back then.
I read on another thread here that he was present at the siege of Constantinople under a pseudonym
Alternate History Discussion #1
The rise and fall of the Roman Empire
>what if Rome failed, and was conquered by barbarians early on in its development (pre 0AD)
>what if Rome never failed (allowing East and west Seperation, what if Rome didn't fall to barbarians late 4th century?)
Discuss
Looking for discussion on the resulting immediate (100-500 years) and long term (500-present) changes in everything these scenarios could cause

Who had the most interesting suicide in history?
>>25790
Actually this, at least for recent history.
Do you mean people who were forced into it by social norms/political requirements like Antony, or ones who truly wanted to end their life?
Hey /his/! Sorry if this seems like /mu/, but given its nature I thought you guys might be interested in a thread like this. I'm wondering, are there any pieces of music from any previous historical era you guys really like? I've found myself with a big soft spot for Civil War songs. "Weeping Sad and Lonely" gets me every time:

Tenting Tonight also gives me a case of heartache:

How about you guys? Any music tied to a particular historical moment...

There's a bunch of songs from when The Dutch opposed the Spanish Philip II. The most famous one is of course the current anthem "Het Wilhelmus". Apparently, the melody comes from a Spain Catholic soldiers' song titled "Autre chanson de la ville de Chartres assiégée par le prince de Condé" (English: "Another song about the city of Chartres under siege by the Prince de Condé"). This song dates to the Protestant siege of Chartres in 1568 during the French Wars of Religion. [From Wikipedia].
I've found the melody in a variety...

Cool! I've never really listened to much Dutch music, maybe I should start.
Our old anthem (still used by the Slovene armed forces, though): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urg7cpp4eNQ
So /his/ is for discussion of humanities but they have to be historic.
Philosophy is discussed on /his/ but cannot be political.
/lit/ is now for literature as long as it doesn't concern law philosophy religion philosophy or anything else.
Am I missing something or is it a very spooky halloween around here?

The ideal is to allow some overlap on all three boards. While they can share the same topics, the conversations all have a separate focus to them. That is to say that you can discuss politics on all three boards, so long as the conversation falls within the context of the board's subject. Adding a third board too the mix is an attempt to refine the conversations had on the other boards, while also opening up a new place to discuss those topics with a new contextual lense.
Of course, that is to sayComment too long. Click here to view the full text.

No, fuck off back to /lit/.
Crossboarding is cancer

If you really think that boards exist, or CAN exist, with zero overlap, then you've been very sheltered.

Can we have a general recommendation thread for tv series and films based on historical events, or set in certain historical periods?
My recommendation is pic related. 95 episode action/drama about the greatest civil war in Chinese, or perhaps world history. Most expensive television series ever produced in China as well.
Sharpe is still the best though.
The Last Kingdom
Black Sails
Marco Polo
Game Of Thrones (^8

Oh thank god, someone else liked Marco Polo. I thought I was alone.
