Can we attempt to make some sort of ranking of conquerors based on the area they subdued?
Genghis Khan would be the number 1 by a distance (see pic related), having annexed an area of 24 million square kilometers. But after that it gets fuzzy.
Nader Shah's empire was 5.3 million square kilometers big.
Alexander the Great's empire was 5.2 million square kilometers big.
Tamerlane's empire was 4.4 million square kilometers big.
I can't find sources for the size of Cyrus' empire, but one shitty websites said it was...

Persia had the largest empire by proportion of the global human population. I don't know anything about the blood thirsty conquerors who helped build it though.
What about Cortes and Pizarro by the way? Any estimates?
Victorian England was the largest by land area and population, but it wasn't contiguous.
wtf i HATE qing dinasty right now!!!!

What exactly is a sphere of influence?
Should other people involve themselves with suicide attempts? Does resuscitating people who attempt suicide impinge on their rights?
Natural rights are a joke.
"No man lives to himself, no man dies to himself."
It's right there in the Bible.

No, you should stop them. Yes should fucking save them.
Swords were meme tier and polearms shit all over the pieces of AIDS infested fuck
>inb4 muh 1v1 :(
yeah fuck off might as well say revolvers are superior to assault rifles because maybe modern soldiers want to recreate western showdowns sometimes
and they don't
>>1215580
Your argument is meme tier. All weapons have strengths and weaknesses. Swords were fantastic weapons up until most soldiers started to wear extensive metal armor. If the sword wasn't meant to be a viable weapon we wouldn't have seen it evolve along with the armor into things like the tapered arming sword and the incredibly pointy estoq.
What possessed you to make this thread
Polearms were replaced by bayonets while swords were still around in the form of sabers. There is also the matter of combat at a closer distance or when there is less room to maneuver, and in those situations the polearm user will typically lose. idk the exact historical contexts in which that happened, but that's how it works.
Well /his/?
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bozgor? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Wallachian militia, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Hungary, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top rock sniper in the entire wallachian peasant forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over...

What does /his/ think of the Irish Republican cause (including but not limited to Paramilitary resistance) ? Legitimate in the face of historical events, or what?
Understandable but disproportionate
In essence, it was a prank that went way too far
>>1215144
Fuck Ulster, the land used to be Catholic and now they want to bully the people who believed it.
IRA is correct, but still a fuck up because they didn't remove the faggot protestants.
>>1215154
In what regard would you call it becoming disproportionate? Just out of interest
Is their a reading list that somebody compiled similar to /mu/'s 'essentials' list?
It would be a bullshit list filled with generalised pop-history.
Ask for books on a topic on /lit/ or /his/; pray someone who know their shit will respond.
>>1214786
I dislike essential readings, they are most often meme books
>>1214786
About the only field seminal texts I can think of are Whig Theory, Carr's What is History, and Thompson's Making.
What are arguments against environmental determinism?
>>1214700
White people who live in cold climates, in tropical climates, in deserts, etc... always build prosperous civilizations
Niggers who live in cold climates, in tropical climates, in deserts, etc... always fail to build anything noteworthy.
The author is a white apologist
That for a good portion, it's not the environment that determines everything, our ideas about the environment also play a big role
Fischer didn't do nothing wrong
>>1214675
Except, you know, quit.
Besides, Kasparov was better. Fischer was only really the "Fischer" of legend for a very short time of his career, 70-72. Before that, he was a top ten GM, but nothing super-special. Hell, he had a minus record against Spassky going into Rejkavik, and a lot of people thought he would lose and have to come back in 75.

he was literally a self-hating Jew

You mean besides allow the empire to become stagnate while they were on top and Europeans were developing? Besides that small thing, sure, they did nothing wrong.
How did the Romans numerate their years? Surely they didn't do the A.D. / B.C. convention. So what's year 1 for them?
