What were the factors that came together to make life hell on earth for Medieval peasants?
>>1204317
It wasn't hell on earth, that's an exaggeration.
It wasn't exactly a great life either but it was alright, Church sunday, farm all summer, chill all winter, parties and festivals quite a few times a year.
>>1204321
this
the life of medieval peasants was pretty similar to just about every other agricultural lifestyle throughout history except they had slightly more advanced farming techniques.
The only reason why the life of medieval peasants is seen as so bad is because of revolutionary and enlightenment thinkers trying to distance themselves from their agrarian roots and so presented them as backwards, dirty, brutalized idiots.

Oppression of women. without the smartest subsection of the population with free reign to pursue what they wish, population obviously crumbles.

three part clusterfuck.
1- France and Britain being completely retarded with borders come decolonization following WW2.
2- Soviet-US tug of war in the region, including the whole Israel situation. The defeat of pan-arab nationalism, and the Iran revolutions.
3- Saudi Arabia-US-American alliance because of oil. Wahabbism.

by allocating more resources to the war
>what would have happened
more revolutionary wars, non-beneficial maintenance by britain.
Fuck i want to watch Zulu now, anyone know where to find it online?

Where? Why?
I was watching the Vikings episode where the Christians cut the ear off of a woman adulteress. On the other hand, Viking society is portrayed as being much more "tolerant" of adultery and even cuckoldry. I can't help but be on he side of Christians on this one. Adultery and sexual degeneracy must be punished in order to create a stable society. Of all arguments for Christianity, this seems to be the strongest. Whereas when pagans speak of a "healthier" approach to sexuality, I can't help but remember those cuckold scenes from the Vikings series.
Now how accurate is this? Were adultery and promiscuity tolerated in pagan societies? We're women given more "freedom" (we all know what that means)?
>>1211792
You are conflating open relationships and adultery. One can be in an open relationship and still cheat on a partner.
In North Africa and the Sahel open relationships outside of marriage were a non issue, husbands and wives were ambivalent about it but now of course things have changed.
>nords were cucks
Nothing has changed.

Who here studies ancient languages? I'm a Latinist myself, but I'm mildly interested in Akkadian and Ancient Greek too.
>>1211751
Hebrew mostly. Proto-Austronesian and Proto-Mande and Bantu interest me too.
>>1211776
That's cool. Do you study modern Hebrew too or just scholarly Hebrew?
Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Arabic, Sanskrit, and Anglo-Saxon here. My Sanskrit is rusty.
>Latium, Campania, Sardinia, Sicily, Spain, Northern Africa, as Roman granaries, were successively reduced to exhaustion. Abandoned land in Latium and Campania turned into swamps, in Northern Africa into desert. The forest-clad hills were denuded. 'The decline of the Roman Empire is a story of deforestation, soil exhaustion and erosion,' wrote Mr. G. V. Jacks in The Rape of the Earth. 'From Spain to Palestine there are no forests left on the Mediterranean littoral, the region is pronouncedly arid instead of having the mild humid character...

That whole wikipedia article reads like slow decent into the apocalypse
A bigger factor imo was the abandonment of large crop producing areas. When you have gaul peasants revolting in Gaul, and angry Franks in your doorstep how do you expect to get food for your provinces.
I think it was the unstable political structure that allowed Alaric into the empire and later the goths into Spain.

>Why does nobody talk about the environmental factors that led to the destabilization of the Roman Empire?
You can't project alt right memes through them.
Is Neo-Confucianism the god tierest of all ethical/philosophical systems?
> normalfag: the philosophy
Probably the one of the lowest tiered of them all.
Yes, it's not like the jewish materialistic system that dominates the world and destroys the Earth.

Honestly, it's probably the most organic and in tune with nature of all beliefs. We wouldn't have GMOs if everyone lied by it.
Would Central Powers won if Italy supports them from the beginning instead of being? Paris would fall in month with the help of mighty Italian army, Russia being alone wouldn't be a much problem. Imagine the world without fascism because zero grudges from Germans. If only Italy helped them as it supposed to instead of being back-stabber.
Mook plz delete this board.

>being of help to anyone
Italy helped Anglos and got nothing. It should help Germans and got half of the France.
A while ago there was a thread asking what laws you would have if you were ruler of the world. I got a little carried away. Any suggestions?
1. Convince U.N. to stop pussyfooting around ISIS and the whole shit situation in the middle east, deploy troops there with instructions to kill insurgents, protect cultural landmarks.
1a. give all soldiers cameras so there's significantly less chance of war crimes.
1b. When ISIS is dead, the U.N. takes control of human rights laws in middle eastern and African countries where all the shit is fucked up. All other laws...

5. All religions allowed, it is only not allowed to follow the parts of a religion that encourage violence, terror, or self-harm.
6. Finally, at this point, sale and production of automatic firearms, WMDs, and military grade weapons are limited to planetary defense.
7. TRADE LAWS: All things legal to sell, buy and trade, with the exceptions of: the aforementioned weapons, environmentally unsafe plastics (more on that soon).
7a. Sale of all drugs is legal, but not advised. There is a high tax on all drugs that...

Trying to write a fantasy book. Not to bore you with the details, but how far would society have been able to progress with no or VERY limited access to iron? Would we not start seeing the strain until industrialization and would be able to make due with inferior bronze up until the middle ages, or would access to only bronze at best make it nearly impossible to even progress to where we were in the middle ages?
>>1210450
I don't know the answer to your quesiton, but I've been writing fantasy novels too, and in my studies I found that Inuit (if I recall) tribes were able to make rudimentary iron tools without mining, from meteorite iron.
We'd actually be more advanced
Bronze production required extensive trade routes, and it's a stronger material than iron
Only downside is the lack of weapons which can be mass produced
>>1210477
>bronze is stronger than iron
Why is there so much human suffering?
Is there a God?
If nothing lasts, why am I bothering to make films, or do anything for that matter?
