So /his/, this might sound like a pretty hardcore conspiracy theory, and outright laughable/implausible at first sight, but I want your take.
There is -some- evidence that points to the use of nuclear weapons being used some 3-4,000 years ago during an ancient war in india,
An ancient Indian Epic, the Mahabharata documents apparently some sort of fiery devastation, pillars of smoke, heat and light.
There also exists a rare crater (the only crater scientifically documented in history to be without impact) where an actual physical object didn't strike earth...

How/why has Switzerland remained a durable state despite its multilingualism?
All other multi-lingual countries in Europe have either split apart, or look like they could do so. But I've never heard of separatism being a thing in Switzerland (but maybe it is/was?)
Because there is a distinct Swiss national identity that has been built over time, almost accidentally.
>Switzerland has good warriors and manages to get the fuck out of the HRE by the time of the Peace of Westphalia
>slowly annexes/integrates other local microstates (last is Geneva in 1815)
>the French Swiss realize they get way much autonomy in Switzerland than if they joined the post 1791 Unitary Empire of Greater Paris

A strong sense of civic nationalism.
The Swiss are literally Napoleon's legacy.
It's... a micro HRE

When will this meme die? Do people really think that the point of this compromise was an official seizure of 40% of humanity from slaves? It was about representation in the House, and nothing else.
>>484500
Slaves still counted "as property" under this type of representation, so it can still be used as a way do showcase how racist US was.
>>484512
If slaves weren't counted as all, no one would be arguing "can you believe how backwards the US used to be? They didn't even count slaves in determining representation in the US House"
>>484529
Depends. I mean it's obviously way more complex than most people try to present it.
Ironically those most in favour for representation of the slaves were from the south, because it would give them an edge in the congress.
One of my favourite speeches at the convention on this topic was given by Gouverner Morris. Pic related.
Can we have a Poland thread?
I would like to know about early Poland. Mostly the birth of Poland. All Polish info is also welcome.
I would also like to know why Poland is so religious and conservative. Is it because of Communism? Is it from being fucked over for so many years?

>I would also like to know why Poland is so religious and conservative. Is it because of Communism? Is it from being fucked over for so many years?

Poland has almost always had non-Catholic enemies so the church has been seen as a rallying point. Whether it be the orthodox Russians, the Muslim ottomans, or the Protestant Germans, the Catholic Church has always been a way to contrast Poland from its neighbors (read enemies).

Post the most impressive battlefield victories of all time. I'll start with Austerlitz. Entire campaign was brilliant, capped by a stroke of magic on Napoleon's part. Truly his peak.

Remember when the Nazis came to power in Germany? Surely not everyone in the German society was onboard and supportive of Nazism. Are there historical accounts of what these people believed, how they behaved, what they did, etc. Did they voice concerns? How were they treated? Both by society in general and by the Nazi party?

Yeah there were 6 middle class intellectual liberals, one of whom was hot crumpet.
Never mind the working class dock subcultures.
How did France just lose the County of Flanders, which was at the time arguably the richest place in Europe? It had been part of the Kingdom of France for the entirety of the Middle Ages, just to slip away to Austria.
Furthermore, how come they didn't bother, or better said, succeed reclaiming it?

Why do modern leftists like to distinguish between "private property" and "personal property" in recent discourses. What is the philosophical or historical basis for the distinction between the two forms of property and is there any legitimacy to such a distinction? Isn't it all just private property?
Is an iMac private property or personal property? Is a car personal property? Why or why not?
Can you cite some examples of leftists making this distinction?
>>481747
I can't find it right now but a lot of Occupy protesters made that argument in defense of their Apple products.
Private property = capital
Personal property = not capital
Why shouldn't we revive pagan religions? What do we know about celtic religion?

is this a controversial subject among academics?
>>479736
of course not, it was a fucking famine. is ethiopia a fucking genocide by us, because we don't give them enough food for all of them to survive?
also picrelated (starved man in Harkiv, Ukraine - 1932), they all look wellfed to me, the guy probably died of alcohol poisoning.
>>479749
is it really that simple?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor_genocide_question
That's controversial because since most academics are leftists who would love to destroy their own independent landowner class (just see how much hate American intellectuals can spew against Southerh Whites) they absolute love the concept of dekulakization, so the end result of this policy being the death of millions of people is very uncomfortable for them to defend. They either ignore it hoping it will go away or they try to invent bullshit reasons to excuse Stalin (that was popular in the 1980s, see the works of Sheila Fitzpatrick, but then the Soviet Union fell, the archives were opened and they were left discredited).
So no, the holodomor is not considered a genocide by the intelligentsia, some countries consider based on political reasons but that's not enough. In 100 years no one will remember the Holodomor because only things that make the left stand in good light are worth remembering by intellectuals and since they will want to kill the kulaks again before the end of the century (see Salon's obsession with anti-racism and anti-white bigotry) they will have to pretend the last time they tried it never happened and it never went wrong.
