Why is philosophy sometimes regarded as "the search for wisdom"? I am personally fond of the many ideas of philosophy and I enjoy engaging in philosophical discussion but I do not want to be "wise", I do find value in being sophisticated and intelligent but that is not the same thing as "wisdom" to my knowledge even though they may be in the same vein. Hey /his/, I have a bit of a conundrum. When talking about race, I often find myself on the defensive because of the assertion that racism is an amalgam of bigotry and institutional power. How much of a blow to the Islamic world were the crusades? Did it contribute to the fall of the Islamic world?
I've read they were basically a minor threat that was dwarfed by the Mongols as well as being just as bad or worse. Is this western revisionism or was it really a big deal to them?
