Did Hinduism have any influence on the Abrahamic religions? I'm asking because many mythological elements from Hinduism can be found in the Abrahamic religions (such as the obbsession with the number 12).

You guys know way more than me about this. Can someone explain the controversy surrounding the lack of Hieroglyphics in the Great Pyramids of Giza? I thought it was tinfoil hat stuff till I actually searched for them. If you type in "Pyramids of Giza hieroglyphics" you get dozens of slabs of script and every damn bit of it says "lala Abydos Temple" and "western cemetary near Pyramid.." etc. The only image I can find that claims to be from the Great pyramid is pic-related. Is it from inside the pyramid? What the hell is that supposed to be? Enlighten a neophyte like me. What is wrong with Egyptology? Are those that say the Pyramids weren't tombs tinfoil hats?

Those are the legendary eggplants of Giza, they put snakes inside the giant eggplants and made them fight to see which snake was the best at killing so they knew what snake breed to pick when they were going to kill Cleopatra later on.

those ar elightbulbs

Even the msot retarded subhuman piece of human filth would recognize that.

Of course the human wastes known as archarologists don't recognize that because it's muh symbolism.

Yes, guess what you fucking retards, the fact that it has a meaning beyond its material purpose doesn't mean it's not a lightbulb for fuck sake.

And I'm not implying the presence of ALiens in ancient Egypt or some other x bullshit.

I'm just saying it's likely they had light bulbs for the corridors or doing "magic" tricks or whatever.

Yeah, it looks like that, but are these from the pyramids? I see this image but it's like they pretend all this egyptian hieroglyphic imagery is from the pyramids but absolutely none of it is. Are there hieroglyphics in the pyramids?

>Folkloric. Taken largely from commoner's knowledge. Commoners whose forefathers never even knew Muhammad.
>Work of Man. Doesn't even try to pass itself off as God given or even inspired.
>Contradictory and corrupt (admitted to be this even by Muslims)

Literally why is anyone, Muslim or otherwise, stupid enough to take the Hadiths as legitimate Historical records/Religious writings?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Many things like the Nahjul Balagha (sermons of Ali) were firsthand accounts, and many narrations come from Muhammad's family.

This is a gross oversimplification of the complexity of Hadith authenticity. While we should be very scrutinous with Hadiths, it doesn't mean much of it isn't true.

Also compilation =! Originally written. Bukhari may have compiled some hadiths but those existed before he compiled them. Though the Umayyads were self-serving and did distort much of the Sunna

But the earliest ones were written down around the same time it was compiled.

And while members of Muhammad's family are narrators, they are cited by a subnarrator who is cited in a chain. It's still a game of Telephone with Arab peasants no matter how much effort you use to collect them. It's folklore. And treating it as anything more than that is rediculous. Fair point on The Peak of Eloquence.

But there's no way of knowing if that was actually Ali who gave the sermons or if it was the handiwork of one of the many Ghulat sects that claimed to have some esoteric documents attributed to one of the Ahlu Bayt they worshipped.

The latter is pretty likely.

What is the history of heliocentrism in East Asia?
13 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>1342365
Chinese Astronomy-and ergo, East Asian- models viewed Spess as a place where the planets just floated.

Since it floated in the infinite vastness of space, the Chinese were of the opinion that nothing could be the center of anything in the universe.
>>
>>1343491
That's more in line with modern view of the universe, right?

Although there should be a center, where the Big Bang originated.
>>
>>1342365
A clearer picture of heiocentrism is painted in Indian history. Their early vedic texts (9th century BCE) suggests a vaguely spherical world and spherical sun. With the sun as a static center and the earth spinning around. No real mathematical work links to this.

The Greeks got to this idea around 4th-5th century BCE. They toyed with the idea and the limited math they could to calculate.

The later Indian 5th-6th century astronomy works and mathematical works provide a more clearer heliocentric system, including earth, the moon and other planets in solar system. Most notably the accuracy of the rotation of earth down to couple minutes.

Muslims world got to this conclusion around 11th century, mathematically.

And the europe got to this mathematically around 16th century.

How would history changed if Jesus instead of turning water into wine performed a miracle of turning wine into water?

I studied International Relations and Ethics but would like to get into critical theory and political psychology. Gramsci is pretty big in IR and his perspective makes a lot of sense to me but I feel like psychology/psychoanalysis has a lot to offer to the field.

Should I start with Lacan? Laclau? Zizek? Freud? Derrida?

I'm so lost.

Were the crusades justified?
35 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
They didn't win so there's no justification. Cause isn't the reason people go to war. It's ultimately the outcome that inspires people.
>>
They were perversions of two religions, run by power hungry radicals in both camps.

Hell, more than two religions if you break up Christianity to East and West. You had power hungry politicians in both Christian churches. Plus you have secular power grabs like how Venice was a huge city of influence.
>>
>>1342115
Well, it was in response to the attacks by the Seljuks of Rum and Unaffiliated Slavers.

it was initially a defensive measure. That much is true.
Then it got to just attacking any Muslim nation who was in the immediate proximity.

Hell, The Fatimids initially even offered to help the Crusaders fight back the Sunni Turks. Then the Crusaders attacked them.

Very interesting.
There is this speculation about the bible that arise when I think about the evolution of travel. That is cartography. The interesting part is that Old maps depict the northen half of middle earth (mediterranean) shaped like an open snake's mouth and has a protruding split tongue (italy).

It is historically plausible and accepted that the early Christian church had an oral lore not a written one. But in order to make the Christian religion formal and legally accepted by Rome, it was commissioned to be written down by one of the most hated people in the Christian world. For that matter rumor states if you want the oldest bible. Try to find one without appendages or divisions.

I remember prior to Dubya's presidency the history of oil became a big deal within some history afficionado circles. They called themselves the Brotherhood of Death. Sort of like a Dead Poets Society... Prescott...was an honorary member due to his studies in egyptology and middle eastern religions. They believed that many societies around the world and in particular those near and in the Arab lands used petrol as a sacrificial resin that contained a host at the altar of the temples.
With that said the beings to be sacrificed would be covered in petrol and burned alive. From there they would burn the body until disintegrated and they would roll the bones and tar into a ball. The bones would be grinded. From there that resin ball would be used as a resin within the temples. It encapsulated a host.
It is said historically and politically that monotheistic faiths served a purpose. However the belief in them would always give way back to polytheism, paganism. Monotheistic faith implementation is seen as a conditioning tactic for new laws or governance. As they would always condition people to serve a similar (one) ideal. Now going back to the bible you see moses, abraham...and so forth. It is said those patriarchs lived at times of new laws...

Continued...

And were not necessarily, hebrew or jewish but were the forefathers or founding fathers of the custom. And each of them a leader in their own right, in a more accurate historical portrayal.

In Jesus's time we see that monotheistic belief was low. Catholics often said that Jesus came at a time of mass sacrifice. That is why God send his son to that area. It is noted that the proliferation of jewish sect means there was a religious schism as all did not find accord with a single observance. The inhabitants of the Phillistines in those days were practicing child sacrifices. It is cryptically spoken of in the gnosis. *note people had to speak cryptically so as not to offend the governing body of society. So in ue gnosis Jesus killed a kid by knocking him off the roof. Houses were not that high. In reality that translates to, Jesus thought of as a holier sacrifice, since option A hit ground. Therefore preferred for the ritual slaughter.
>>
The great mystery is that there were a great many writers during the time of Jesus that never wrote about him. The oldest version of Gospel of Mark perhaps written from a first hand witness does not mention a virgin birth nor the resurrection. And calls Jesus son on Mary without mentioning Joseph. So one wonders if the bible was enhanced to include Zoroastrianism ideology including virgin birth, resurrection, holy ghost etc to hide something that was looked upon as shameful at that time. Talmud writings tell that Jesus was the illegitimate son of a Roman Soldier called Tiberius Julius Abdes Panthera and that Jesus escaped to India when his life was threatened.

Not nearly as fun as the OP pic is implying.

It ranged from literally being worked to death to being a mid/high level businessman or civil servant.

Note that in the Roman Empire, slaves generally didn't increase in population, unlike in the American South.

This is because the conditions were generally too harsh for the slaves to have children of their own.

This didn't matter to the Romans, who could always catch some more. This is a major reason for the decrease in Europe's population in between the second and seventh centuries AD.

Let's talk intellectual property, /his/.
Does intellectual property actually exist? Or is it purely an economic incentive to inventors and creatives? Should creating an idea actually give you any intrinsic control over how that idea is used?
Put another way, if you ignore the law, Is it ethically permissible to infringe on another's copyright?
