680 KB,
From the time I've spent here I've come to understand that many anons don't seem to truly understand a single thing about the topic resulting in many uninformed posts. It is for this reason I have taken it upon myself to start a video series for the purpose of educating wayward anons.

I'm open to any criticism and simply want more quality discussion on this board.

Your pad is nice, and you seem like a decent guy, but you've got a Nu-male look about you. Grow your hair out or lose the beard, IMO.

Good job otherwise.

It's interesting that just about all of the questions you give as examples of philosophical questions would be considered as analytic, given that the philosophy discussed on this board (and /lit/) is almost always continental.

When did the Middle Ages end in your opinion?

Most people seem to agree on 1500 as an acceptable if arbitrary cut-off point.

But there are differing opinions.

One could argue that the Middle Ages ended with the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire in 1453
Or 1485 at Bosworth, the deciding battle of the War of the Roses, the last dynastic war on British soil
Or with the death of Andreas Palaiologos in 1502, the last pretender to the Byzantine throne
There are even some who would claim 1806, the year the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved, to be the real end of the Middle Ages. It was the end of the HRE, which had been a fixture of the Middle Ages, and it also marked the last time anyone would claim the title of Roman Emperor.

If you look at literature and the arts, it becomes even more complicated. From a British perspective, most British historians would consider the conclusion of the War of the Roses to mark the end of the Middle Ages, yet British society and culture only became more recognisably modern after the Civil War (1642–1651). A writer such as Milton has far more in common with the writers of the Middle Ages than, for example, Alexander Pope, born only a decade after Milton's death. Many argue that it was the act of legally executing a monarch that heralded the modern era of constitutional government and the rule of law in Britain.

Anyway, what are your thoughts? I'm aware that historical cut-off points are arbitrary and pointless in the scheme of things, as history is more complex than a series of distinct periods. But I'm still interested to find out where your personal cut-off point is, if you have one.

I'd say 1492 is a good cutoff point.

The events following the discovery of the Americas represented a fundamental shift in European geopolitics.

Sometime in the early 17th century, after the Protestant, military, and mercantile revolutions had run their course.

"The Renaissance" was an Italian intellectual movement contained within the late Middle Ages. The age of exploration and colonialism was immediately post-medieval.

Wait, I just want to get my head wrapped around this concept: You want to basically cram the United States's industry and population in 1930s-40s Germany and have them lash out on a spree of attacks instead of what Germany actually had?
>>
>>870764
I want the whole U.S Land mass to be where Germany is the the German land mass to be where America in and for all the other countries to form around them. America would still use American supplies and weapons and have their own military. They would just basically want to take over Europe like Hermany did and would have all the allies the Germans had. They would hate Jews as well.

When Europeans started invading the Americas they raped a lot of the natives.

But when India or Africa got colonized there arent as many mentions of rape. I have barely read about any, actually.

What made rape so prevalent in the case of America? Did the people back then find Africans and Indians as ugly as I do? Or were Native American girls too qt to resist?

I know that rape is common amoung all kinds of war. Im just mostly curious about mixed-race rapes between "blacks" and "whites", to put it simple.

not sure what the differences were, going to need some more factual sources on rape levels

They did

In west africa colonials had entire harems of local women

You haven't demonstrated that there was even a single rape during the North American colonization m8. Comparing the amount of supposed rapes to other regions being colonized is putting the cart before the horse.

How multicultural was the USSR? Was it disproportionately dominated by Russians, or could people from the provinces rise up the ranks of the Soviet Curia easily?

Obvious examples are Trotsky and Stalin, although both men worked very hard to ingratiate themselves into Russian culture and even changed their names to fit in.

He completely fucked everything up, neglected foreign diplomacy, allowed the empire to crumble, and undermined the 18th dynasty (which ended soon after him).

But I fucking love him anyway. He has to be the single most interesting person from the Bronze Age, and the Amarna period's art is top-notch shit.

Evola believed that a race of "Nordic" people, anciently emanating from Golden Age Arctic Hyperborea, originally semi-immaterial and "soft-boned", had played a crucial founding role in Atlantis and the high cultures both of the East and West. In Evola's eyes, half-remembered, cryptic memories of a "more-than-human race" once existing in a "northern paradise" constitute the patrimony of the traditions of many diverse peoples. In this occult belief, Evola was additionally influenced by Arctic Home in the Vedas by Bal Gangadhar Tilak,...

Why didn't certain powers like the Ming/Quing Chinese or Ottomans ever attempt either colonization, exploration, proselytizing, or actual trade/exploitation of t he New World?

I've heard much concerning the Chinese and their relative incompetence for sailing, but the Ottomans? They controlled most of the eastern Mediterranean and were allied with the Berbers of North Africa: surely, they could have mounted a small enterprise to the New World once the knowledge of its existence and of the route to take there had been discovered by the Europeans?

Hell,...

Culturally. Someone with a Christian upbringing will probably have a vision of Mary/Jesus rather than rather than Bhaktic devotion of Vishnu's presence.
