Is the Judeochristian God really just an old desert tribe War god that was incorporated into the Jewish theology?

Christians don't have the same God as Jews.

There is speculation the Jewish religion was Henotheistic before it became monotheistic. The fact that Phoenician lore still makes its way into the Torah also points to that.

So /his/ , why does the Patriarch of Istanbul still calls himself the Patriarch of Constantinople?
>>
>>911921
I suppose it's in the hope that some day Constantinople will be regained from the Turks.

Maybe that day will come. It would be nice.

It's pretty funny how contrarians look to Orthodoxy as if it's better than Catholicism, much less better than something like Episcopalianism.

Are there any fictional films/books that /his/ approves of?

Pic may or may not be related, that's why I'm asking you

They defeated them in the great battle of the nile delta.

Well they were entire tribes on the move. I think the best explanation for the collapse is social unrest. The great Bronze age kingdoms had enormous populations for the time period. Mycenae, Pylos, and Tyrins dwarfed any of the classical Greek city-states. You had a godlike king ruling from his palace and his noble charioteers that the king ate with and probably knew each of them by name. Then you had masses of lightly armed infantrymen who were only needed during times of war. What happens when there is a long peace between the great kingdoms and highly mobile tribes disrupt the fragile trade networks that are the heart's blood of these gigantic cities?

Can I get a reasonable explanation as to why Italy did so poorly in WWII? The meme that Italians are just naturally cowardly and lazy can't be true, look at other battles and wars they are involved with and it just doesn't hold up. Where they just not interested in fighting another country's war? Inadequate supplies and weapons? What caused this?

Italy suffers from unifying late compared to other powers and having a largely rural south which drags down the entire country.

The simple, but inadequate reason is that Italy lacked the industrial base of any of the other major European powers.
>>
>>911438
But why were they victorious in WW1? You just don't see the mass amount of surrendering in that war that you do in the 2nd.
>>
>>911424
Both those were serious factors. Another was the internal politics of the army.

See, the Italian state formed out of the kingdom Piedmont acquiring all of Italy, in the same way that Prussia acquired all of Germany. But there were significant differences.

Prussia was significantly more invested in the German project, represented a much larger share of Germany, and was much more willing to share control over the Army.

The Italian Army, by contrast remained the refuge of Piedmontese nobility, and officers who kissed up to Piedmontese nobility, and above all the King. Now, obviously this is likely to prevent meritocracy and therefor actually good officers in command.

But it also meant that the officer corp, and control of the army, was a last bastion of an elite group that was otherwise politically negligible. The result is that the officer corp regarded their troops as worse enemies then the other armies.

Remember, this is a conscript army: a decent chunk of your enlisted men are communists, and in the eyes of these officers, all of them might as well be. You don't trust them with initiative, with independent expertise in weaponry, etc. That shit is dangerous. Your job as an officer is to treat them like beasts of burden, and make sure they fulfill exactly what you tell them obediently.

AKA babby's first philosophy. It's astounding how many people at my school (especially my philosophy class) take eastern religions seriously.

"omg, I love Zen! I'm totally going to try to make time for it in my life (but I'm so busy lol)!"
"omg, there's nothing you can criticize about Taoism!"

I can't stand it, why are eastern religions so pretentious? They're frankly illogical. Thought isn't inherently bad like they tend to proselytize , it's a piece of human consciousness - it makes us what we are. I understand their plea to live in the present and whatnot, but your past is who you are and many people like to reflect and think about the past. Your experiences are framed through your previous experiences, and I'm a firm believer it's impossible to detach yourself from that. Impossible to be completely objective as they claim.

To me, they seem frankly illogical. If life is suffering, why not kill yourself? (lol edgy!) Why waste it chasing for a enlightenment that may never come? Why waste time being a Taoist in a world that is irrefutably in-congruent with it? It's simply more snake oil to make you waste time to chase happiness, when happiness is in the eye of the beholder. Or, you could be of the camp that happiness (or contentedness) is a myth, but I'm not quite there yet.

I understand I came off like a fedora and I don't mean to, I enjoy philosophy for the most part but I can't stand eastern religions (inb4 western state of mind)

Well remember that they were developed in ancient India, which was a pretty miserable place to be alive, so the natural sentiment is to dull your mind against nonstop suffering.

But if you are a pampered modern person you probably don't suffer at all and have no use for it.

Montezuma was little different. His capture by Cortez did expore a sort of naive innocence in him, though.

As for Cortez, his story is one of the most amazing in all of history, which he accomplished singlehandedly by his wits.
