Any Mircea Eliade fans here? Just started reading him and his stuff is neat.
Hi.
Very underrated author in comparison with Jung and Campbell.
i have some books but havent read them yet

Yes! Eliade is a legend. I'm studying religion at UChicago and his work heavily heavily colors the curriculum here.
Why do people fawn over Rommel instead of appreciating the man who deserves it, Guderian?
>implying Manstein wasn't the god-emperor we needed, but didn't deserve
Because:
-Guderian was taken off the frontlines in late '41 due to withdrawals against orders to prevent frontal collapse so he doesn't have any cloud like Rommel or Manstein and others
-Guderian was never promoted to field marshal due to aforementioned move to reserves and promotion to FM depended entirely on Hitler
-He was assigned chief of staff in '44 where he couldn't really do anything against increasingly delirious Hitler though he did constantly engage in shouting matches with Hitler
-Guderian was old school Prussian officer and didn't...

To love God and one's neighbor.
A sub-par Monty Python movie.
This guy's story always makes me sad.
Sure, he was an unluckly and inept spoon-in-the-mouth rich boy who couldn't properly govern a nation. But neither him nor his family deserved what the gommies meted out.

Yes they did. And worse actually.
>Around midnight, Yakov Yurovsky, the commandant of The House of Special Purpose, ordered the Romanovs' physician, Dr. Eugene Botkin, to awaken the sleeping family and ask them to put on their clothes, under the pretext that the family would be moved to a safe location due to impending chaos in Yekaterinburg. The Romanovs were then ordered into a 6 m × 5 m (20 ft × 16 ft) semi-basement room. Nicholas asked if Yurovsky could bring two chairs, on which Tsarevich Alexei and Alexandra sat.

>Nicholas, facing his family, turned and said "What? What?" Yurovsky quickly repeated the order and the weapons were raised. The Empress and Grand Duchess Olga, according to a guard's reminiscence, had tried to cross themselves, but failed amid the shooting. Yurovsky reportedly raised his gun at Nicholas's torso and fired; Nicholas fell dead. Yurovsky then shot Alexei. The other executioners then began shooting chaotically until all the intended victims had fallen.

I post koan, you answer
This is case 38 from the gateless gate (book written by master wumen, a collection of koans and wumens comments on them)
The Case
Goso said, ”A buffalo passes by the window. His head, horns, and four legs all
go past. But why can’t the tail pass too?”
Wumen's comment
If you make a complete about-face, open your eye, and give a turning word on
this point, you will be able to repay the four kinds of love that have favored you
and help the sentient beings in the three realms who follow you.
If you...

Lately I've been binge watching endless amounts of World War 2 documentaries. It's the most beautiful historical piece ever, it has everything a guy could want. Whenever I'm busy my friends joke around saying "Oh, he's probably watching another world war 2 video". I know the war in and out except for one very important aspect not one movie/clip has explained. Why did Hitler want war? Why not just purify Germany and rid the country of Jews in general? Why did he go on a conquest? I know the reason behind the battles but not the beginning of the war...

Lebensraum for pure Germanics of Aryan descent™. Even with all the German bullshitting and anschluss it was only a matter of time before he pushed the French and Brits over the edge, Hitler was still surprised they bothered to declare war for Poland though. At that point it was necessary to knock the French out since they had arguably the best continental European military, nobody expected such a short campaign though. WW2 docs are amazing, I still remember watching Apocalypse WW2 when it came out because that was the first time I ever saw colour footage of the conflict, dat...

I'll have to look into that, some things in there I didn't quite understand but thanks mate and nice, I've watched episodes 3 and 4 several times just because the invasion of Russia is itself beautiful. I'm not a Nazi but the Germans were badass
what was the last successfull german offensive operation?
What are some /his/ approved films?

/tv/ permanently ruined any discussion of this (pretty great) movie. I would love an updated version of Napoleon's Italian campaigns. It could have all the challenges of a young new general dealing with challenge after challenge. It would show flashes of some megalomania, but overall he'd act admirably.

1. Construct an internal enemy, as both focus and diversion.
2. Isolate and demonize that enemy by unleashing and protecting the utterance of overt and coded name-calling and verbal abuse. Employ ad hominem attacks as legitimate charges against that enemy.
3. Enlist and create sources and distributors of information who are willing to reinforce demonizing process because it is profitable, because it grants power and because it works.
4. Palisade all art forms: monitor, discredit or expel those that challenge or destabilize processes of demonization and deification.
5. Subvert and malign all representatives of and sympathizers with this constructed enemy.
6. Solicit, from among the enemy, collaborators who agree with and can sanitize the dispossession process.
7. Pathologize the enemy in scholarly and popular mediums; recycle, for example, scientific racism and the myths of racial superiority in order to naturalize the pathology.
8. Criminalize the enemy. Then prepare, budget for and rationalize the building of holding arenas for the enemy-especially the males and absolutely its children.
9. Reward mindlessness and apathy with monumentalized entertainments and with little pleasures, tiny seductions: a few minutes on television, a few lines in the press; a little fun, a little style, a little consequence.
10. Maintain, at all costs, silence.

I came to this board expecting autisticly intelligent threads about the industrial output of the Byzantine Empire during it's golden age peak not autisticly stupid ones like discussing if the holocaust really happened.
