What will I miss out on doing one vs the other? (Just enough credits left to complete one.)
If I do English, I'm afraid I'll miss education in the ideas of thinkers from other traditions (eg German, French philosophy).
If I do philosophy, I'm worried I'll miss out on education in some grand accounts of muh human condition (which is important to me), though I don't know whether academic English really goes into that at all.

In most American universities you'll be doing a lot of analytic stuff, so that means logic tables and sperging about math and language, it's not all phenomenology and human condition unfortunately. Where I go, a pretty analytic university overall, there's still plenty of existentialism and philosophy of art courses and stuff but you can't get around taking symbolic logic and metaphysics at some point.
English of course is going to focus more on literature while Philosophy will have a bent more towards critical thinking. Both will give you a substantial writing education.
I don't know my man, I guess it comes down to taste and what you plan to do after school is out.

Why are so many Christians also patriots and nationalists, even though the teachings of the Bible directly contradict the concept of nations (with Jesus himself declaring that he will strike down the national borders upon his second coming)?
Moreover, why is it so hard to realize that the Bible is mostly a collection of allegorical moral and philosophical teachings, which are in no way special and severely detached from the reality of the modern world? It is in no way a true account of the world.
Religion is mostly used by those who seek to justify shitty policies and doctrines ("muh God wants it like so, he told me to invade Iraq"). Religion as a whole was maybe useful and beneficial at some point, but this is simply not the case in a modern society, where it leads to things ranging from science denial to sectarianism, and even war.
Religion is a right-hand of politics. Always was, always will.

I remember reading once about how the entire story about Jesus and Barabbas being presented to the crowd and Barabbas being chosen and the entire "his blood shall be on our hands!" was born from a mistranslation: namely, that the name Barabbas simply means 'son of the Father' (bar-Abbas) in Hebrew, and is not an actual given name. However, it could have been en epiphet, and one likely used by Jesus, such that when the crowd yelled for 'Barabbas!', they were actually clamoring for the release of Jesus.

His immediate followers (Nazarenes and eventually Ebionites) were simply Jews who considered Jesus a great teacher, at at most, a prophet.
Most - if not all - of what is written in the Biblical NT is the invention of either Paul or those Greek converts who worked off of Paul's ideas, themselves either outright lies or delusions. Ironically, the Church in its persecution of the Ebionites destroyed whatever might have remained of the original actual teachings of Jesus.
