Foucault got the better of it I'd say. But so did Zizek... and ZIzek is a fucking memelord.
Why didn't the Silk Road reach Japan? Would it have made a significant difference in Japan's development if it did?
>>1426683
>Why didn't the Silk Road reach Japan?
If they traded with China, then it did.
>>1426683
They were part of it. Why do you think the Dutch and Moors stopped there?
But extremely insignificant.
>>1426698
Did Moors stop in Japan? I'd like to read about that. As for the Dutch and other westerners, the first time I heard about them landing in Japan were in ship wrecks, so they weren't exactly trying to stop there. Did they stop there before?
I was reading Dostoevsky and one of the characters says of another character that he is "Raw material for the revolution". The book was published in 1880, so I got to wondering. Was the coming Russian revolution so obvious? Dostoevsky was not the only one to predict or mention a coming revolution within Russia. The way that it's mentioned is so casual that it's almost as if it was already a foregone conclusion decades before it actually happened.
How did so many people know that the revolution was coming so long before it actually happened? Was Russian...

You didn't forget going to Church today, did you, peasantcuck? What, you did? You had a late harvest this year you say. Well, too bad peasantcuck, you won't be going to heaven if you keep missing Mass like this.
Anyway/ Another day, another shilling. Now back to those fields.

Kek has revealed himself to us and is a truer god than the God of Abraham.
He does not require his followers to attend church.
>>1426613
Kek is a demon born of humanity's desire for its own destruction. It spreads death and chaos wherever its followers point it.

Does that mean that when you died before this life, you chose to live in this time, only to spend your life whining about how much you want to live in another time?
People are never satisfied.
How did they do it?

The French and the Prime Minister.
What was their life like in times of peace? Did they go around trying to start shit out of boredom or necessity?

They could be garrison or occupying troops.
France had many swiss mercenaries on hire for protection duty, even in times of peace.

There was no time of peace.
The thirty year war was utterly apocalyptic and the most dangerous and horrible thing you could encounter as a peasant or civilian were dismissed mercenaries/Landsknechte who needed money and food because they blew their money on fancy cloth and gambling (As was totally logically because they could die everyday) and the food was scarce because so mayn people died that fieldwork was disrupted in many places.
Dehumanisation and roving bands of raiders searching for human prey or another warlord or passing army to offer their skills were the...

The atheist/theist debate has stooped so low that this thread is now the norm. I am blessed by Dawkins for being able to live in such times.
Did any Indonesian empire or kingdom ever go and explore Australia? They lay so close together it seems alomst impossible that they didn't know that there was such a large land mass so close to them?
Anybody know anything about this?

I live in Far-North QLD and we would see him walking literally in the middle of buttfuck nowhere with thousands of kilometers between towns.
He crafted his own boat by hand out of a log and sailed to PNG, he fucked up and had to be saved by the tribespeople there.
I think he is in an old peoples home, we dont see him walking around anymore.

Why do Anglo-Saxon peoples hate Confucianism so much?
This Chinese doctrine seems to give a headache to every Anglo-Saxon intellectual.
Inferior brain power.

Disdain for the family, probably.
Possibly the language itself is structured (capitalization of first-person pronoun and other misc. degeneracies) is anethematic to the creation of a virtuous community.

Who are your favorite church fathers, /his/?
Do you prefer the Latin fathers, the Greek fathers, or those of the Syriac tradition (Ephrem, Isaac, et. al)?
Are there any particular texts that you're keen on?
>>1426187
Bump.
Doesn't matter where the Father comes from, the Patristic tradition is pretty uniform. Saint Jerome, for instance, really isn't any sort of different tradition from Saint John Chrysostom. Only when you have divergence from patristic tradition does it appear you have distinct regional traditions of theology.
I am especially fond of the Ascetic Homilies of Saint Isaac the Syrian, as well as the Ladder of Divine Ascent.

>"Man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills."
>In other words, although an agent may often be free to act according to a motive, the nature of that motive is determined.
What makes dennet particularly egregious here is that this is exactly the reason Harris et al think free will is an illusion, because we cannot will what we will, only choose whether or not to act on our impulses.
What has been going on with clothing?
I mean that the more we desexualize nudity the more we will have to look for something else as a source of eroticism.
If we dont find nudity erotic anymore what are we to do if not divert erotic feelings towards other things...
