post yfw Marx says "Thephilosophers have onlyinterpretedthe world in various ways; the point, however, is to change it."
Plato reformed education by eliminating the poets' monopoly over it and starting his own Academy.
Aristotle got empyrical, scientific thinking and the natural sciences underway.
Marx is too much deep into Plato's Cave to see that there is more to his predecessors' work than his own utopian dreams, political agitation, and apocalyptic final battle scenarios.

Does Judaism have the highest theology of any Abrahamic faith?
Well, first you'd have to tell me how to measure height in theology

no Christians tend to be taller than Jews and mozzies desu
>>1416164
I doubt it, given how many are Flips or Latinos
Where did the Christian devil come from?
It will be obvious to most /his/ familiar with Jewish background to the New Testament that the NT devil comes virtually out of the blue. One can point to only two significant Satans in the whole OT (Job's and Zechariah's - one poetic, one prophetic) and then suddenly in the NT there is an explosion in diabolic activity from page 1 (35 mentions of "devil", 35 of "Satan", plus various synonyms such as "prince of this world"). Yet one searches in vain for anything in the Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha...

Jewish apocalyptic literature has a dualist approach to cosmology: Go(o)d vs (d)evil.
>The idea of a final triumph of God and His heavenly hosts over evil spirits also followed naturally, and kept pace with the development of the Jewish angelology. The "guardian angels" of Dan. ix.-xii., and the punishment of the "fallen stars," which occupies so much space in the Enoch literature, are only elaborations of beliefs which had already received distinct expression; compare Isa. xxiv. 21 et seq. (a most important passage), xxvii....

I forgot to add: I'm a Joo and I believe OP's familiarity with your Jewish background of the NT is severely lacking.

Zoroastrian dualistic tradition, it was copied by gnostics/manicheans, and this element was somewhat carried on to later Christianity, with Satan becoming a pseudo-Angra Mainyu.
What other historical figures got short changed? I'm going with Pompey, he literally did nothing wrong and got nothing but shit from Julius and a sword to the neck.
Might as well turn this around and go with
>Julius did literally nothing wrong and got nothing but shit from Pompey and the senate.
Shutup muh property, stay spooked with your fucking morals lol.

I want to be convinced that my life means nothing or almost nothing. I feel like it would bring me comfort and alleviate my worries. Convince me.
>>1415812
You don't exist. Your life doesn't exist. Meaning requires existence to be meaningful. Aye?
>>1415812
your life means almost nothing
there you go
>>1415812
If you're not an influential person, it's almost impossible that you will be truly known or remembered after your death past 150 years. Your life doesn't matter and has no consequence.
Scale of 1-10, how historically accurate was this show. Not necessarily actual events and figures, but general things like culture, technology, dress, and buildings.
>>1415798
The main character of the show is not black, so it's historically inaccurate to begin with.

heh

It's pretty shit, read the books instead
Is progress a myth? Many people believe in it and would sacrifice anything for the name of progress.
In the sense that progress is an intangible ideal like God? I guess so. You have to prove that it's not an ideal that's sacrificing for, though.
No one believe in just 'progress' as an idea. They believe in ideas of progression towards the betterment of society in their view. They don't fetishize the concept of progress itself, but their own opinion on what progress means.
>>1415605
Progress doesn't exist. It's purely cyclical.
>>1415605
Google Archdruidreport myth of progress
Why are Biblical stories so shit, the only good ones are pass over and Sodom/Gomorrah, meanwhile like 8 of 10 greek god stories are interesting
Religion is bullshit.. God isn't real. The only """gods""" are the great men who have shaped the the destiny of the human race {Pic related}

Uh, did anyone notice the Fascist poster the op used??
What does it have to do with Greco-Roman mythology?

Dude. The slaughter of the Midianites (Num 31). The book of Joshua. The porn in Ezekiel. There's war, pillage, adultery (& rape & incest), and intrigue all over the OT. David sends Uriah into battle to be killed so he can have Bath Sheba to himself. The rape of Dinah. Jacob with his daughter in law Tamar.
It's an awesome piece of literature.
Any good books on the early church?
the bible?
Unironically the Bible, especially Acts and all the letters.
Who was the best secretary of defense?
>Alternative title: Robert McNamara was the best secretary of defense. Prove me wrong. Pro-tip: you cannot.
Tim Howard
The Fog of War was a pretty good documentary.
So I'm thinking of starting a history based Youtube channel and I'd like your guys opinion. I was going to make it primarily about untold war hero stories or just interesting war stories in general, do you guys think this could be successful and enjoyable to watch? Anything you guys would add to it to make it better?
If you just did like random one-off war stories with little to no context, I probably wouldn't watch it, but I'm sure more pop-history people would eat that shit up.
Honestly if you just have really good and fast editing it doesn't really matter what you're talking about though.
>>1414652
just do what you like man, nobody can tell you what will happen in advance
just also try to make the content good and well-researched please, and don't be controversial for the sake of controversy. too many garbage videos on youtube already
Make it meme free and I would watch all your vids. God speed.

What the hell is going on in the southern Levant?
I was listening to taylor swift's wildest dream song and watched the video and noticed it was a story about a movie being shot in olden times, the 60s at most.
I know that the 50s are always idealised but are the 50 years prior to the present always idealised as an innocent and more glamorous time? Or is this a factor that only appears in the technological age?
My guess is that increasing levels of technology lead to more abstract jobs that just don't stimulate the feelings of people. Also more and more interaction is through screens (harder to idetify...

>but are the 50 years prior to the present always idealised as an innocent and more glamorous time?
I don't think anyone in my country idealised that time, ages are idealised because the people in said place were economically doing well in a way or another.
>>1414532
Hoover has the press and actors collared
>>1414545
This is fairly accurate, the 50s in the US were a time when a large majority of the country was doing fairly well economically, and even disadvantaged people (black people and others) were making some social and economic gains. Obviously not everybody shared equally in the success, but things were generally optimistic, and even though it couldn't last, a lot of people thought it would and things would just progress for everybody. Hence why people probably describe it as a more innocent time.
One of my friends, is apparently polyamorous, it's been making me think recently, is it really possible to love more than one person, because personally I would feel distrust and would not be able to.
I don't think it's possible to love even one person.
>>1414454
Elaborate?
>>1414439
No, polyamory is a special snowflake meme. I understand the difficulty of monogamy and I'm definitely not saying don't have fun, but when it comes to love, it's just impossible to be in love with more than one person. Not true love, at least.
Also, nobody on 4chan has ever actually been in love (infatuation doesn't count), so honestly you're better suited discussing this with a better crowd.
The adulterous affair is the purest form of erotic love because it carries the greatest social risk to the participants. If you really love a girl, you should marry a different girl but still see her on the side.
Prove me wrong, oh wait, you can't.
>>1414434
>it carries the greatest social risk to the participants.
What about pederasty?
BAM!
>>1414441
Not a relationship between two equals, and hence, not a real erotic relationship. Very likely a sexual one, but it can have little more than just the animalistic.
>>1414434
Let us say someone loved their wife as much. Would the fact they have not demonstrated it as vividly diminish their love? No. It is the same amount of love, they just don't have to cheat to be together.
Actual love levels and how easily observible their love is are separate things.
