Was Cincinnatus the greatest leader of all time? It honestly seems like it.
I think it's silly to judge historical figures like that.
He was just a dude who understood how to do his task and didn't have the vision/delusions of doing anything else.
>>464703
Well I don't think it is fair to judge semi mythic characters but that is just me
>>464720
this
it's the equivalent of saying that about william wallace because you watched braveheart or something
>this man is running towards you, a plucked chicken is his hand, screaming "BEHOLD, A MAN!"
How do you react?

>How do you react?
Maybe he couldn't find a single honest man.

Kick him in his cynical balls.
What are some historical instances of false flagging?
>>464613
Pretty much all small boat naval engagements prior to firing in the 18th century.

The Lavon Affair.
Israel tried to bomb civilians in Egypt and blame the attacks on the Egyptians.

It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.

I wrote a song about them, instrumental using their songs sampled and remixed.

Psychedelic rock? I know who you are.
Before I embark on reading the Prince /his/, I have one question. Was it written as a literal guidebook to being a good but amoral politician? Or was a scathing work of satire criticizing the Italian families who jailed Machiavelli as lacking the essence of humanity?
Machiavelli wrote the book so someone (he might have had someone particular in mind, I forget) would use the advice to unite Italy under one rule.
There are literal critiques of princes contemporaneous to Macievelli.
That's pretty much all you need to know.
Would you vaccinate all of the Native Americans of the European diseases before it killed of 80% of them?
If not why?
>>464389
No, because America as we know it wouldn't exist.
>>464394
If anything thats an improvement
>>464389
My knowledge of medicine isn't all that it could be, but wouldn't the vaccine itself basically kill them either way?
Either way, from a purely utilitarian standpoint one could probably make a point for the vaccination of the central and south american civilizations that had advanced knowledge worth sharing and preserving for the improvement of civilization, but for the north american tribes, I don't see much of a point unless you are just out to mess with history as much as you can.
Where do they come from? I used to see click bait articles years back claiming they developed around 8000bc near the black sea but after the recent developments of genetic anthropology it seems they were much older.
4 separate ancient groups, the Western Hunter Gathers in Spain, the Scandinavian hunter gatherers in self explanatory, the Yamnaya in Russia and the Caucasian Hunter Gatherers in Georgia all have been revealed to have the gene in ancient times.
As the Caucasian man was believed have lived around 12 thousand bc the prior theory is completely debunked...

Why did America save Britain in the world wars? Wouldn't it have made more sense for America to side with Germany than with its bitter enemies, the Brits?

Because blood is thicker than water, and Eternal Anglo bands together like a plauge of locusts
In World War I, no not really.
The German Empire was preparing the last offensive they were capable of staging by the time American troops arrived in meaningful numbers. US troops played a role in halting the spring offensive and contributing to the 100 days offensive that ended the war.
France and Britain would have taken higher casualties, but I doubt the absence of US forces would have led to a total complete German victory.
I don't even believe so for World War II either, Britain was able to maintain control of the skies against the Luftwaffe, thwarting...

Hey /his/ i havent been able to find enough examples of this and i want to see if you guys can. Are there any historical examples of two "Great men" Duking it out? The most i seem to find are things like Marius VS Sulla, even though sulla was past his prime, or pompey vs ceaser again pompey being past his prime. also a general X vs X who would win thread.

>Are there any historical examples of two "Great men" Duking it out?
What do you mean? In single handed combat?
>>463845
I'm pretty sure that General George Patton literally raped Rommel and Manstein in a threeway.
>>463875
Wasn't Patton only able to do that with much more resources? It's my understanding they were never on equal footing in terms of troops/gear.
The title says it all
Shouldn't you be on /lit/?

What's your favorite rebellion/illegitimate/against-the-grain/etc. faction in history?
For me, it's either the South or the French Revolution peasants.
>>462399
The South. One, I'm from the South and two I admire how they were able to "hang in there" with the North despite being disadvantaged in virtually all areas but leadership.
The Boshin War and the Satsuma Rebellion.
Black Russians.
Disregard white Russians, disregard reds.
Get anything cool for Christmas /his/?
Didn't wish for much but I got what I wished for:
Friedrich Nietzsche - Thus spoke Zarathustra
Chick Corea -Return to Forever
The Mars Volta - Octahedron
The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath
Nils Frahm - Spaces
Merry Christmas, OP!
Ten Thousand Year Explosion
I had read most of it in bits and pieces over the years, but now I'm going through it properly.
The Great War for Civilization by Robert Fisk

Figure I need background on the philosophers I've flocked to in the past.
I would really like to believe this book. I have started reading it.
Is there a unbiased historical analysis of this book?

Check out Revolution in Judea by Hyam Maccoby.
>>461970
Thanks.
Well, the peoblem is that the book itself has been altered several times throughout history.
>he's a moral relativist
>he thinks you can derive an ought from an is
>He thinks morality should be a fixed idea.
