Have Richard Dawkins invented or discovered atheism?
No.
/thread.
Dunno about that but I know your mom discovered my dick last night.
>>670193
Then who did? And was atheism invented or discovered?
What is the best book to read to understand the economy of Nazi Germany?
Im not really interested in WWII or the wartime economy but rather how Hitler brought Germany out of the depression.
>>670164
Wages of destruction, the writer knew Albert Fucking Speer.
>>670164
>but rather how Hitler brought Germany out of the depression.
So you're interested in lies and falsifications?
>>670164
I'd like to know more about this as well
>post yfw the rebels got cucked by General Sherman
>>670150
Are you trying to claim
a) That General Sherman was personally capable of tupping every Southern woman who was not a slave or free black?
b) That you are a smug anime girl?
>>670203
a) yes
b) yes
Can we have a late Roman Empire thread ongoing? It's a subject rarely discussed on /his/, as well as an extremely interesting period in history to explain the causes leading to the downfall of one of the most powerful (both politically and economically) empires in history.
WESTERN EMPIRE STRONK
EASTERN EMPIRE IS SHIT
>>670058
>Can we have a late Roman Empire thread ongoing? It's a subject rarely discussed on /his/
The late Roman Empire is probably the single most discussed topic on /his/.
>>670065
Not really, it's mostly Byzantine (or Eastern Empire) discussion. I've rarely seen any discussion on the Western Empire.
Why use chariots when they could just ride horses?
>>670007
more stable fighting platform, especially to throw shit or shoot shit is my guess.
Also, maybe more protection? thats just a guess however.
>>670007
Chariots came before horseriding so it doesn't have to answer to why Chariot when you can horseride, but the other way round.
>>670036
well...why ride a horse when you can use a chariot then?
What happened?
>>669900
The Eternal-Anglo simply became more subtle to fit with the zeitgeist of the times, now they control the world through skillful manipulation.
>>669928
>Nation of shopkeepers indeed
Napoleon was right.
>>669937
If Napleon was right he wouldn't be dead.
What is the true reason for the collapse of the Roman Empire?
I found a nice resource by William Durant
http://www.daniellazar.com/wp-content/uploads/Durant-Christ-and-Civ.pdf
where on around page 803 of the pdf it's got some great details on the economic, political, military, and social causes, but lots of people have debated that Christianity was the downfall, what do you all think?
>>669858
Yeah, Christianity definitely fucked up the Empire,
splitting the empire was the biggest mistake. the west was piss poor compared to the east so without that income everything went to shit
>>669858
They were an empire. So the same thing that happens to every empire happened to them.
Eventually you run out of places to loot, and it's all downhill from there. And once you can no longer loot your own youth to force them to loot other places, you hire mercenaries from those places, and then you've crossed the singularity.
Why was it that the Europeans saw it fit to spend over 700 years retaking the Iberian peninsula, but made minimal or no effort to take back, say, Egypt?
After all, Egypt was just as much a part of Christendom as Spain or Portugal before the Muslim conquests. Was it purely for geographical reasons? Was it because the people of Iberia largely did not convert to Islam, and if so why was that the case?
>inb4 the crusades
The Crusades were only a response to Muslims not allowing Christian pilgrims into Jerusalem; if the Seljuks...

Option A: Spend a fortune on building up a large enough army to sustain an oversee invasion and defend home country.
Spend another fortune building a navy to defend and transport your invasion army.
Option B: Invade neighbors and take their land for yourself.
>>669828
Egypt was just an example. You do realize that Europe and Asia are geographically connected, right?
>>669864
>You do realize that Europe and Asia are geographically connected, right?
No matter what way you choose to enter Asia, you're going to be confronted with hundreds of miles of swamps, deserts, mountainous regions, and Islamic civilizations where either there will be little to no forage and potable water along the way, or people will try to kill you, so I really don't understand the point you're trying to make.
Why do people on these internet forums call spooks memes?
It satisfies their ego my friend, why else?
>>669722
can someone explain spooks? I sort of get the idea but I can't find a simple explanation.
>>669857
A spook is a term stirner uses to describe an immaterial idea, concept or construct that "possesses" people to do things they ordinarily wouldn't. Morality, Ideology, Religion, Superstition, Honour, are all examples of spooks.
>Western 'cavalry'
>Eastern 'infantry'

> Implying knights wasn't boss on the battlefield.
>>669698
In a European setting.
Pretty shite in Asia though.
>>669625
Western knights were an effective counter to the Mongols who had wrecked the Hungarian and Polish light cavalry in the same way they had wrecked the Eastern lighter cav.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Mongol_invasion_of_Hungary
Knights were bretty gud.
Following the same logic that the
>Holy
>Roman
>Empire
Wasn't a true empire could the same thing be said about the Mongolians empire. It seemed to lack centralized power for most of its history
Atleast it had some power over it's subjects.
>>669505
But each khanates held there own district and had there own laws. Literally the same as the HRE
>>669501
Empire is just the vague translation of the German 'Reich', which can be translated both as "realm" or "empire". It for sure lastet a couple of centuries longer than the Mongol empire, though.
So I have currently started working on my bachelor's thesis and I chose to do it on the Civil War. The catch is that I _have_ to use a primary source for my thesis.
Can anyone make some suggestions for where I can find some valid sources? I.e archives. I have chosen to focus on the election in 1860 and why it was a contributing factor to why the war started. Some sources that may show x votes on this delegate and what not.
Or if someone have some ideas to what else I can focus on that is easier to get primary sources.
I am not american, btw.
What aspect of the Civil War?
>>669491
Why do you call it "the" Civil War if you aren't American?
>>669493
I am not entirely sure, before I can start writing, I need a primary source. But first and foremost reasons why it escalated into a conflict.
Is the "if Hitler was let into art school, there would be no WW2!" meme true?
There's no way something so simple could have changed history so much
>>669385
>no WW2
Who is Stalin? What is USSR?
>>669385
Kind of.
Hitler only started getting into radical German nationalism after that, had he been busy being an artist and never went to fight in WW1 he wouldn't have entered politics.
Although in that case WW2 would happen anyway, just with the Soviets on the not-allies side, and Italy (and possibly Japan) on the allied side.

>What was Versailles?
all that exists is a product of our imagination
what we touch, smell, taste, feel, is all the result of mere electric signals that move forth and back in our nervous system.
there's no such a thing as taste, as love, as red or blue, it's all in the mind.
this "objective world", of singular truths and realities that some speak of, is merely a result of the trust one has in his imagination. which i understand as being very, very naive.
trap thread?
>>669206
having your first epistemological crisis or what
>>669206
But feelings are a psychical thing, Chemicals are a huge player in every feeling, Love for example is triggered by dopamine, So no not just electric signals.
Historical entertainment thread
What are some great historical movies/series/games /his/?
Just gone done watching Rome, was pretty good, sucks ass they ended it after two seasons for being too expensive though, had a lot of potential.
Is the Spartacus series worth watching?
Not really, Spartacus is probably shit tier if you liked Rome, it's certainly not as sophisticated or as involved as Rome was in a historical context
I just watched "Desiree" with Marlon Brandon, about the chick Napoleon almost married. It was boring as fuck but at the same time kind of entertaining in that cheesy 50s way.
How is the Napoleon miniseries with Christian Clavier?
