Does Europe need Hegel more than ever before?
I have studied this man for 2 and a half years and I still cannot figure out what the fuck he was on about
Before you all send me to /lit/ hear me out, a teacher of mine I remember saying, (she taught/teaches Social Science) that this book (PIC related) called in italian "the need to believe" was a good read on the matter of religion, I got it and was about to, but I am worried, because as I looked into the wikipage of this Erich fella I see that he is Fromm and a prominent member of the Frankfurt school, which made me wary.
Is there anything to worry about the philosophers of that school /his/?
Tldr: What's the deal with Frankfurt school and if people...

>What's the deal with the Frankfurt School
A collection of contemporary, far-left philosophers that gained notoriety because particularly paranoid right-wingers connect them to a conspiracy.
>Are worth reading?
No, they really have nothing substantial to say beyond what's already been said in far-left circles.
The Frankfurt school is a bunch of left wing thinkers that right wingers uses as a meme to explain why their beloved culture is turning against them instead of capitalism
I think the Alt-right obcession with the Frankfurt conspiracy and "Cultural marxism" is pure nonsense but let's be real, the only "genuine culture" they wanted to foster was a universal one based on "progressive" ideals
Where can I find out more about Pelagianism?
Why dont continental philosophers just kill themselves /his/? everyone hates them. they are useless. they do nothing but bitch. they will never be employed. they have done nothing to improve peoples lives.
meanwhile, the followers of the enlightenment continue to make progress every day. they make peoples lives cleaner, safer, happier, and easier.
I found this at my grandmother's house.
Are they Old? Wich country?
They have value?
3 more pictures comming
What does /pol/ think of these CNN miniseries about the decades?
Biased and of poor quality (with regards to content), like most shows on CNN. The only one I can manage to watch is the Anthony Bourdain show, just cause it isn't as blatant with its agenda-pushing (if there is any).
Could I get an explanation on the differences between the Sarmations, Scythians and the Kushans?
The vastness of the eurasian steppe was not the highway of 1200AD+ it was a vast unending sea of nothing. The difference between these people was purely distance, but in 600ad,every KM might as well have been a lightyear
Is there any argument that proves that an objective moral can exist, other than functionalism?
And in that case, what is the "right" moral code to follow? How can we know?
Tell me about Lebanon /his/. Has it managed to (mostly) avoid completely splitting? Did they deserve what Israel gave them? Will it survive into the foreseeable future?
Just islam my shit up senpai. They used to be majority Christian (the majority of people of Lebanese descent are Christian however) but the Muslims had a higher birthrate and lots of Christians left to France/USA/Brazil. I think the new Brazilian president is part Lebanese.
Was dropping the bomb the right thing to do?
How many would have died if we didn't?
Would significantly less civilians had died if we invaded?
Operation Downfall was projected to produce 2 million US casualties. All Purple Hearts issued by the US military since WW2 were part of an initial production run for the invasion. The US has made it through Korea, Vietnam, and the Global War on Terror without running out.
This was probably too low, as the Japanese High Command had correctly predicted American landing points and order of battle.
An American land invasion would have looked like something out of the absolute worst days of the Eastern Front, or the Paraguayan War.
Picture the Battle of Berlin...

So....what the fuck happened in Yugoslavia?
Why isn't this guy one of the greatest? Or even memorable for that matter? He managed to be both a diplomatic success and a war time success, probably getting us the biggest chunk of modern America ever (besides Alaska), and he does it all in ONE TERM. He worked so hard he died shortly after leaving? Shouldn't we consider him at least top 10?
I'm pretty sure he does rank in the top ten on most lists. He only served one term which is probably why he doesn't get as much memorializing. I grew up near his birth place so we learned shit ton about him so we definitely learned a lot about him in school and he was always one of my favorite.
Polk was a mistake.
Populating the southwest stretched whites out too thin and left us defenseless.
Southwest is becoming mexican in all but name.
Do you believe that something such as an "absolute truth" exists?
Do you think it is possible to attain it?
If yes, how so?
> Do you believe that something such as an "absolute truth" exists?
of course, it is impossible to answer the question if truth doesn't exist
> Do you think it is possible to attain it?
i don't know
How credible would be an alternative history, where the western roman empire survived in north Africa?
There were Romano-Berber kingdoms in North Africa that were basically Berber chieftains with Roman cities who feigned loyalty to the ERE. ERE Africa survived for alil while.
North Africa was a heavily profitable and Romanized area. Its completely plausible in some alternative hisfuck that Italy is taken and the remnant rump state is in NA. Happened in Dalmatia and North Gaul.
Is this the direction the history channel should be going in? Is this better than reality shows or talking head shows discussing which historical figures would win in a fight?
History channel has always been crap. When it was "good" it just showed documentaries that they licensed to show on their channel. You can now find all those docs on youtube. "Great Minds" is actually funny, and probably the only show I've liked that they produced themselves. Even that I just watch on youtube.
TLDR; Go to sleep Spencer we like your show.
