Okay we've had some good threads over the past few days, time for a shit one.
Who is your /his/ waifu?
I don't have one because I occasionally get laid
>>90564
Embarrassing desu
Does /his/ think the British Empire could have survived as a slightly stronger and more unified version of the Commonwealth of Nations if they had adopted a federalization program, focusing on a strong economic bloc and granting home rule rather than making things worse through crackdowns on things like Indian independence
>>90090
There had been that plan to turn the whole deal into a Federation of sorts. The problem really was WW1 more than anything, since its economic strain and resulting WW2 made it unfeasible to maintain a lot of the colonies, many of which didn't make much money to begin with.
If they had gone federal, I'd expect a good deal of the english majority territories would remain together, but distance would likely have made even that a bit unfeasible. It's hard to say.
>>90090
Brits should have industrialized and commercialized their colonies a lot more so they could become self sufficient blocs within a World British Federation or whatever.
Also massively increased their anglo populations so the natives became minorities. It worked for America.
>>90331
>The problem really was WW1 more than anything
This too, becuase of WWI the Irish home rule bill which had been approved was delayed, and being a bunch of a impatient manchildren the Irish Republicans decided to try and get it during the war through force
The biggest military conflict the south american conflict ever witnessed, it's left from 250000 to 500000 dead.
It has ruined a country ended a monarchy and begun the unification of a nation.
It made villains and heroes and left wounds that remain open even after 150 years.
It's a conflict that doesn't have as much represantation in the media as it's deserves.
So let's talk about!
Is this thing considered a Genocide? Because it should be. Although most victims were KIA.
Was it necessary for brazilians to fucking kill every single male in that country?
they were the situation it was SO BAD the only surviving men were either too young or too old to marry.

Some facts
>begun in 1864 ended in 1870
>Causes varies from Brazilian intervention in the uruguayan civil war of 1864 to the apprehension of the boat that was bringing the governor of the Brazilian province of Mato Grosso.
>It's was great factor for the abolition of slavery in Brazil.
>The parguayan dictator Solano López died in the last battle of the war, and it's sister...

The genocide was a consequence but not the intention. Dom Pedro II could not allow Solano to remain in power after all the years of conflict.
His people decided to stick with him to the end and unfortunately paid the price.
hi there /his/syfits,
the agricultural revolution happened in a bunch of different areas independently, writing was invented at least three times etc etc,
why didn't the industrial revolution happen before it actually did? can you think of any near misses?
china had quite some production line like processes happening before europe,
the greeks had a primitive steam engine made by hero of alexandria, you guys must be able to think of others.
>>89806
>why didn't the industrial revolution happen before it actually did?
Printing press with movable type expanding the general intellect?
>china had quite some production line like processes happening before europe,
Rome had these also, IIRC
Although left alone for a bit longer China might have gotten to industrialization
>/his/syfits
Who the fuck approved this garbage?

This board is already finished.
It's a cliche when I say the regurgitated phrase : "those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it"
We all know that:
>Attacking russia in winter is a bad idea
>It's a must to always keep your army in check
>Absolute power corrupts absolutely
etc...
But what about those lessons / mistakes that history has repeated frequently but that no one remembers / we'll probably commit them again?
I feel like a huge empire killer...

Don't bother with the middle east
Britain learned it, then Russia learned it, then somehow the uk forgot and made the same mistake again, this time with the us
Never get involved in a land war in Asia
Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line
If someone claims that you are being slowly genocides by outsiders who have come to steal your wealth, you are being lied to and are almost certainly on the brink of a civil war.
You will know when you are being legitimately inavded. If people aren't dying in the streets, that rhetoric is being shouted exclusively for political gain.
What could be the historical or sociological reason for the amazing increase in the death rate of whites aged 45-54?
Never once in history has a group suffered such a shared downtick n survivability
It won't let me post the graphs but they are shocking, aids in the 1980s style mortality

Please keep it politics free, I am only looking for an historical perspective not race baiting
Ennui?

Thought of that. Article blames the heroin epidemic as a contributing factor along with ending career goals and lower standard of living from competition from overseas slave labor.
Anomie would be closer, what the Japanese feel today.
That suicide rate is shocking so is the death rate from heroin among upper class young whites.

Twinkish bottom gays in positions of power in history. Post them.
I'll start:
Elagabalus, a femboy slut elevated to Emperor.
>The Augustan History claims that he also married a man named Zoticus, an athlete from Smyrna, in a public ceremony at Rome.[41] Cassius Dio reported that Elagabalus would paint his eyes, epilate his hair and wear wigs before prostituting himself in taverns, brothels, and even in the imperial palace:

>Twinkish bottom gays in positions of power in history.

w-why?
>/his/
>every second thread is about ancient LGBT bullshit
nobody saw that comming
>>89421
So we get a better perspective.
Historians always ignore lewd parts and there are some very lewd and good parts in history.
What's your opinion on horrible histories /his/? The book, not the crappy tv show.
>>89309
This book specifically or the series as a whole? Series as a whole was nice, and this book was pretty interesting. Actually said "You may feel sorry for the Incas and the Aztecs being conquered by invaders, but how do you think THEY became empires? THEY CONQUERED AND INVADED!" instead of saying "WAAAA POOR NATIVE AMERICANS WHITE PEOPLE ARE SUCH BULLIES!"
Terry Deary's a pretty nice writer, and Mark Brown's illustrations are ok, if a bit simplistic.
>>89309
great for the kids, and those who can't be bothered reading a big dense history book.
>>89361
I feel like it can be good for casual reading as well. I like sitting down in a restaurant while eating a nice meal and reading about toad eaters and victorian era begging, involving eating rotten bread. Really works up an appetite.
Hello /his/, lets talk about ancient Israel/Judea
The 12 tribes, Kings of Israel, Solomon's Temple, Babylonian exile, Second Temple, Hashmoenites, Roman Judea, Herod and much more to talk about.
Post pictures, texts and good books about daily life in ancient Israel.
no /pol/ le joos memes please
>tfw no temple
god damned Romans.
>>89353
Shame it can't be rebuilt because Muslims appopriated the temple mount
The city of Jerusalem was called the city of peace, however, it has been quite to the contrary for the past 4,000 years; it has been defined by war and religious strife and political anarchy. The Jews, Christians and Muslims have fought bitter wars over the right to claim ownership and custodial entitlement to Mount Moriah. All three Abrahamic faiths have assembled theological and dogmatic authenticity to explaining why King Solomon’s Temple personifies the Jewish, Christian, and/or Islamic religious worldview.
King Solomon's Temple was built on Mount Moriah in...

What smallest change in history could have resulted in the greatest impact on our timeline?
Hitler being born a girl
Carthage doesn't recall Hannibal from Italy

What are some examples where the native people were better off as a colony than an independent nation?
Rhodesia, aka Zimbabwe, case in point they're asking for western agriculturalists to run the farms they forced white people off.
South Africa, you know, apartheid, crime rates, etc.
Australia... Who just need to realise that the aboriginal people and not the aboriginal culture are what's worth saving.
Canadian native Americans, Brits tried to help them and ensured the settlers didn't harrass them (the Americans did not or did so a lot less)
Otherwise, history is rife with examples where subjugated people are treated like shit. Some...

Now you're just trying to spark some memes, lad.
What were the rights of transgender people throughout various empires and historical epochs?
Were the "two spirits" in native America a precursor to modern transgenders?
Was the Roman emperor Elagabalus?
Did Christianity instill a culture of heteronormativity in Europe that stifled gay and trans expression?
Pic related.
>>89051
Fuck. I hope so
>heteronormativity
When you are 1% of a 1% you can't say you are normal.
Sorry faggot.
>>89051
the conception of femininity and masculinity in many cultures in times pased wasnt realy compatible with how we see it today and was mostly tied to religious and occult ideas of how reality works
there was never any ''expression'' in the way you think of it
it always had a religious, magical or political function, or it was just a question of people enyoing themselves some sodomy, other than that it was seen as a abberation and abomination, or just a higly unhigienic way to use someone...

Is tiananmen square the reason china is still a shit-tier country today?
It's a shit-tier country because there's lots of people and no motivation. If China had some sort of Pearl Harbor type incident happen to them, then everyone else in the world would likely be shitting several pairs of pants at them.
No.
It's because they lie about EVERY fucking statistic (as if 110 average iq)
It's because they monitor their citizens, even when they're on holiday in Australia.
It's because they are the worst case of aging population the world has
It's because the command economy is a really, really bad idea
It's because their people are culturally passionless and lack any real creativity
It's because throughout all this, they still have an insufferable feeling of superiority that every Australian is all too familiar with.
In...

You cannot be /phil/ without being /lit/.
>Cogito ergo sum
Nice mem, but have you ever read the Meditationes where he attempts to prove this? No, you are not /lit/, ergo you are not /phil/.
There are too many idiots on /his/ who think that everyone's opinion (and theirs in particular) is equally valid and deserve to be refuted. Then you must also like modern art where a picture of an asshole is considered is just as artful as the Sistine Chapel.
Please get /lit/ before you dump your shitposts about philosophy on /his/.
what about discussing the history of philosophy and philosophers :^)
judging by this post you almost certainly haven't read the Meditations
for one thing, Descartes takes the cogito as being self evidently true in the Meditations
>>88723
Unless you're going to accept the premise that philosophy consists of the history of philosophy, that's a fucking disgusting say to go about discussing philosophy. The way people discuss philosophy on /lit/ (shit like 'Marx BTFO literally EVERYBODY before him so you should read all and only Marxist authors from now on' is posted way too often) is filthy. Tbqh if you think philosophy consists of listing the names of people who disagrees with each other about, you're the reason analytics look down...
