Christianity just isn't doing it for me. I love god but I can't accept Jesus as a savior and the bible for the most parts kind of silly if you look at it literally.
I want to have beliefs that take from Christianity paganism and buddhism.
I just want a religion but abrahamic ones are so bad.
Why not take the parts you like from all different philosophies and go with that? Don't feel pressured to confine yourself within one single religion if you can't do so.
>>298643
That's what I plan on doing but I want to read more about paganism and buddhism but they are harder to learn about
>>298655
Try Stoic texts in lieu of Buddhism and see what you think of it. The writing is a lot better and there are less mystical claims.

Catholic with deep respect for the Orthodox faith here. How do you all feel about the quickening talks of communion once again between our faiths? I, for one, am very excited. This could really be a unifying force between East and West Europe. If Pope St. John Paul II was able to help end the Cold War (which he did, in my opinion), the end to this conflict will bring peace and the furthering of us true followers of Christendom, as opposed to the heathens, heretics, and unbelievers of this world.

How do I into mysticism?
What exactly is mysticism?
What's the purpose of it?
>>298696
It depends, really. The Catholic Church views Orthodox Sacraments as legitimate and valid, and most Orthodox (with the exception of some conservatives) likewise, and the Orthodox Church still recognizes the Bishop of Rome as the First among Equals, so the Church's aren't as far out of communion with each other as one would think. The problem is just that in Orthodoxy, doctrine and dogma cannot be changed, for any reason, ever. Therefore, the idea of a "Doctrinal compromise" or a Doctrinal "halfway...

Dowry.
You did them at Church and they had to be accepted three weeks consecutively, then there would be a wedding.

At least in Jewish religion/culture, you did give a ring for a very long time: By law, the man was supposed to give an object of value to the woman, but even the Gemarah notes that it's always been a ring for as long as anyone can remember, even though it theoretically doesn't have to be one.
(1) If God exists, then God has these two properties: (i) He provides an intelligent-design explanation for all natural, complex phenomena in the universe and (ii) He has no explanation external to Himself.
(2) Anything that provides an intelligent-design explanation for the natural, complex phenomena in the universe is at least as complex as such phenomena.
(3) So, if God exists, then God has these two properties: (i) He is at least as complex as the natural, complex phenomena in the universe and (ii) He has no explanation external to Himself. (from 1 and 2)

!) God exist
2) God does not interact
3) God does not follow logical consistencies
4) God may or may not be imperceptible depending on person to person.
5) God exist
You'd have to first tell us what exactly you mean by complexity. It's a deeply imprecise word.
It also isn't at all clear to me that premise (2) could be given any support. It seems quite clear that human beings most certainly could create things of greater complexity than ourselves; obvious examples would be conceivable kinds of AI. Less obviously there's nothing preventing us from creating a gigantic, interconnected, non-repeating arrangements of matchsticks. Depending on your what we take complexity to mean, conceivable structures of that type could...

Can we have a discussion on the morality of reproduction? I myself believe that it is incredibly immoral to have a child if you are not capable of raising a child correctly. I am not an outright antinatalist, but I am determined not to have children because I am a mess. I also harbour deep feelings of loathing towards my parents for giving birth to me. I would not like to create such another being.
I agree with you, and I say that as someone who grew up with very supportive and loving parents.
The injustice of growing up in a shit tier/abusive household horrifies me.
Knowingly throwing into existence a life that is sure to suffer is pretty much equivalent to harming that life directly.
>>298232
Thank you for being understanding. Most people do not appreciate how important this decision is for me. People have actually claimed I am selfish for making this decision.
Having a child is a responsibility. If you cannot take care of your child, you shouldn't be having any children. Its the same way with pets. If you can not take care of your pets, you should not own one. This isn't just food/shelter, but health care and social/emotional development.
An to a future extent, this will apply or rather should apply to the creation/ownership of AI robots.
Educate me in the verses of history where women played a major role
Side question, why do you think less women conquered and and controlled nations than men?
Discriminatory inheretance laws.
>>298139
Well, why did that occur?
Why did the women of those families not fight this, or if they did, how did they lose?
>>298145
I don't know, but men has traditionally been seen as the "stronger" sex. The protection and the decision making in a family has mostly been taken by the father and it is natural for a lot of people to extend this to the country.
This is what a patriarchy is btw, a society run by fathers.
Can someone give me a couple of comprehensive history books?

Can anyone explain Marx's "coat equivlence" theory in terms that make more sense?
To me, it seems that Marx is arguing that despite 2 commodities having 2 physically different forms, and different utility, that the value is equivalent if the labor is equivalent, no matter the difference in utility/physical form. Is that a valid interpretation, or am I missing something?

use-values are incommensurable
exchange-values are commensurable
for a social relationship mediated through a thing or service to possess value, that relationship must both have a use-value in the sense that it will be realisable by sale, and have an exchange-value in the sense that it is a product of realisable [socially-average necessary] labour power
Say you have two dildos. One is a dragon dildo designed for your asshole which ejaculates fake semen. The other is a vibrator made after a horse penis and it glows in the dark.
If both have the same labor put into it both have the same value even though they are used for very different things.
Only a greedy capitalism would charge more for the dragon dildo than the horse vibrator!
