Why does Getter Robo need 3 different forms and 3 pilots? Why don't they just give Getter 1 a drill and make it capable of fighting underwater? The other two forms seem pointless.

Alright /m/ I'm trying to understand the mass appeal of mecha.
Aside from gundam series, macross, patlabor and gunbuster, I'm seeing a lot of lack luster shows.
Aquarion, Tiger and bunny, code geass, gravion, vandread, etc. All pretty bad imo.
Am I just watching shitty shows or are mechs not for me? Why do most shows have great looking robots ruined by half assed cgi?

What does /m/ think of Grendizer (known as Goldorak in French dub)?
Never watched the show, manga is pretty good especially the Ishikawa chapter, Grendizer has a horrible design and it's disappointing to see Kouji pushed to the sidelines.

The plot does backflips in order to make Kira and co. appear as heroes. The gigantic holes in their logic you could drive a dump truck through, yet no one seems to have the braincells to do so. There's a goddamn reason why they get called out in every crossover game they are in, but the show just doesn't want to touch it. Or if it has to, it tries to do so quickly and move on. Is this the Japanese equivalent to Sonichu or some shit?
