My younger brother would spam The-Os strong punch where it swings its beam rifle downward. This caused many a jimmy to be rustled.
Are there any other mecha series with fleshed out, life-like characters?
Almost every other series follows the typical Sunrise procedure: a cast of retarded protagonists that develop into complete autists.
The only other one I can think of is MJP, and even that comes very close to being just like any other when it comes to characters.

Patlabor was really a cop show with some mecha on the side. Which actually made it awesome, but when people make a mecha anime they're targeting the mecha audience.

Anyone know a good place to read the 0079 manga online? found one issue of it when i was younger and reallly liked its use of MSV stuff and redesigns of the Bigro and Zakrello and havent seen any of it since.

So, i'm sure this gets asked a lot, but are there any anime(aside from Battletech: The Animated Series) where the mecha are closer in design and capabilities to Battletech/Mechwarrior mecha? As opposed to the Gundam/Eva style high mobility human proxies that we seem to see in every genre of mech anime.
I've looked a lot and can't seem to find anything really, although perhaps i'm just blind.
