I watched the first three episodes on Sunrise's YT, and it's really not grabbing me. Things seem to abruptly shift between SERIOUS and ~comedy~, the main characters seem to do things for random and impulsive reasons, and there's inexplicably toilets in Gundams now.
Does it get better? I'm remembering everyone else saying it was really good and I'm just not feeling it.
If those are your complaints, you're probably not going to like it.
It's got some cool robots though.
Don't take it too seriously, it is good fun with gorgeous animation but the ending and the plot overrall is extremely rushed, it's not just the first episodes.
Still better than most shit that came out in the last 20 years

Yeah the mecha designs were one of the things I did actually like.
As a follow up to my post the other day on G-Reco's interesting animation techniques comes some other possible revelations on the animation team's efforts to make it look more organic. I grabbed the first BDMV to take a really good look, and there are some interesting findings.
For one, the typical 720p resolution applies, but it's a little more complicated than that because there are intentional artifacts such as chromatic aberration, and possibly even lens blurring effects on the sides of the of frame. Many of the sharper lines here in the hair demonstrate...

On top of that, the image on the BD, like many Sunrise BDs, is subtly aliased. This actually somewhat meshes against the intentionally rough line work, but it makes it challenging to reduce while respecting the art style. This shot in particular has a lot "disconnected" outlines that an antialiasing filter may attempt to blend together.

This image reveals a clearer example of the sketchy shadows they used throughout the show. In particular, the outlines themselves join with the shadow detail, leading me to wonder how the decisions are made to "ink in" the shadows or leave them sketchy. I admire the effort, but sometimes it doesn't really fit too well. For example, the background is actually darker than the Arcane's knee here, and makes it look pasted into the scene.

So..........are you gonna give it a work?
The AT-AT is the best mecha ever designed.
Unless you need to fire in any direction that is not within a thirty-degree cone in front of you.
Or at the ground.

That scenario is even less likely than some dude having an energy sword and grappling hook cutting a hole in your hull chucking a detonator in!
Is it possible for us to have a Gundam art thread? Preferably UC. I'll dump what little I have, and if any anons could contribute it would be appreciated.
What other animes are there that have magical power armor/mecha? Like The Vision of Escaflowne.
Aura Battler Dunbine.

Break Blade( did that anime ever provide any new footage or was it all just the ovas rehashed)
Guyver

Why does the future dictator look like a girl?
>>12473310
Tomino asked for it. Check the report of the event before the anime started posted at en.gundam.info.
What must a mecha series do exactly to be seen as a serious story rather than a guilty pleasure/train wreck/not take itself seriously? I've seen most anons here right off virtually every /m/ series of the current century as non-serious.
>>12483111Not have a story.
It has to be not shit.
That's all.
>>12483172
alright, how does a series not be shit?

Feels so good to see the Mega cast again.
>>12473991
Although this may or may not be the last time you'll see the Mega crew again, it's a nice and fitting way to cap off Gingaman as a project. Thank you, once again.
Fuck yeah! Crossover between two awesome (back-to-back, no less!) series!
Will you be subbing GoGoVVS Gingaman?
>Still no megastructure
>>12476854
Hey what the fuck, since when did Cibo have a fully mechanical body? I mean apart from the level 9 safeguard body. Even when she hacked Sanakan she defaulted to a featureless black goo without organs.
>>12476864
According to Nihei that's how Cibo would have eventually looked like after taking full control of the level 9 body.
Fuck living in the megastructure.
This is so beautiful i can't stop looking at it

What's the scariest mech ever made?
Don't tell me you didn't shit your pants when he teleported right fucking behind you.

This is the reply you're waiting for right OP?
Will Nagano and Anno ever be able to live up to the giant shadow cast by their mentors?
Or will they both keep rehashing their same respective franchises for the rest of their lives?
Anno's directing Godzilla, so I think he's already surpassed Tomino by getting to work in a legitimate medium.
>>12475320
> toku
> legit
Porn is more legitimate than Godzilla. There's a reason agencies never let their actors go back to toku, but can salvage AV actresses.
