Also I'm almost certain the Aestivalis are a kind of parody of the grunt suit, because we're told their mass produced, yet we only see like 5 of them, they're hard to repair, they all have these super robot style different modules and upgrades, and can pull off super robot moves. Maybe I'm giving Nadesico too much credit though

Literally the only difference between each one is the head, and the equipment frames are universal. And what's "super robot" about machine guns, cannons, missiles, and taking time to repair?
What does /m/ think of Hajime Katoki, as a designer?
His original designs are mostly shit.
Pretty great, but I don't like how he uses the same proportions for all his MSs.
I like his earlier work and his non-robot design, but I loathe how he keeps on being asked to redesign other designs and inevitably makes them have long legs, skinny waists and small torsos.

Which ones are we NEVER getting blurays of? I've heard Japan has a bad reputation for losing/destroying of old /m/ shows, but is that true? I've never really looked into that.

I mean, you have basically two whole decades worth of material starting with Mazinger Z and moving forward. I know Wikipedia has an fairly extensive list of most stuff produced at the time, just pick some and go. The quality may vary but the overall themes are going to be consistent.
Opinions will vary on which ones are 'good' and usually depend on which shows a person watched as a kid. Nostalgia factor plays a huge part in their reception. That being said, some personal favorites include:

Alien machines invade, humans in desperation accidentally create godmachine giant robots to fight them. Lots of hotblood and drama cranked to 11. Something like that. I'll have a default setting of sorts but assume players fill in the blanks as they play.
I'm mostly avoiding the Eva and its kin here.
Recommendations seem good. Seen/Read some of them.
