Anyone notice how the setting of ML takes everything Japan got wrong in the Pacific War, and contrives a way to make it right?
Let's get out of the way:
BETA = massive numbers and infinite production = America
Imperial Japan = Imperial Japan

This meant that American ships and aircraft frequently survived many the damage that their Japanese counterparts could and contributed to the heavy losses the Japanese suffered to inflict only light casualties on the Americans.

This meant that the Japanese kept coming up with complex plans that rely heavily on the Americans doing exactly what the Japanese expect them to so that they can be drawn out and destroyed with a decisive battle. Unfortunately the Americans had broken their communications ciphers and knew what the Japanese wanted them to do and made sure to do otherwise.
Answer: BETA are tactically too dumb to live

This was a big one that meant that Japan could not replace the fighter pilots they lost quickly enough and had to send large numbers of poorly trained novices out to fight the well-trained American pilots (plus the Japanese planes exploded if you sneeze at them since lol speed and range matter more than armor, meanwhile the American planes were better at letting their pilots survive to gain experience). In the end they just trained kamikaze pilots since you don't need much training to kamikaze.

Why do people keep on bringing up WW2 in ML threads?
BETA are supposed to be a stand-in for the Soviet Bloc. Their territory almost directly mirrors former communist bloc territory.
The whole NATO/Soviet dichotomy was that the Soviets always had numerical superiority, but NATO had more effective force multipliers. Something mirrored almost exactly by BETAs. Notice how MLU and MLA (not the side materials which were retconned in later) handwaves the Soviets out of existence without much more than a footnote in a brief lecture by Yuuko, and replaces them with BETA.
This is the only reasonable explanation for Africa's continued survival in ML - from a meta perspective it mirrors a conventional conflict between NATO and WarPac+China where Western Europe has fallen and the focus of the conflict with communism is now at the English Channel in the Atlantic theater, and Japan in the Pacific Theater.
Many of the political arguments and ideas during the MLA coup arc are almost directly lifted from Japanese mindsets surrounding how the US would or would not respond (concerning the mutual security treaty) if the cold war were to go hot, but not thermonuclear.

SEED and Destiny are the only Gundam series that I haven't seen yet so I figured I'd finally try them out. Which is least painful for each - original, HD remaster or the movies?
The movies at least take the shortest amount of time.

Somehow they found the long forgotten "Airborne Element Solidifier" sample device, the device which they based off in making the portable Photon Energy application device, in the back of the storage room at the Photon Power Laboratory.
Z-chang uses the device and transforms into Cutey Z-chang. In theory Z-chang could transform into different forms in different situation, but somehow it gives her 1 form at the moment.

Was there ever a logical in-universe explanation to why BESPA's suits had helicopter wings on the arm? Sure, you need a place to put it when it transforms, but it seems highly impractical when one of your arms is rendered useless because you need it to stay in flight.
Not even getting into the fact that if those helicopter wings are aiming anywhere but up, the navigation should be fucked.
I'm not that far into Victory, but it also seems like a design that's pretty worthless in space.

Well yeah, they're helicopters, the only people who would build a space helicopter are Dethklok.
But they're not just helicopter rotors functionally, they're beam rotors- they're made of the same energy that the beam shields and beam sabers are, which means that they have a three-way use.

You do realize what the problem with these two statements together is right.
They're ground combat MS. Beam Rotors are specific to land combat MS. Space combat MS get beam shields.
You don't use a Xamel in space. Similarly, you don't use a Zolo in space, or -land prototype- Shokew, in space. Dummy.

IMO, Macross designs are much superior.
Get the designs from Gundam 0079 vs SDF-1 Macross
The white base looks like shit, and can't be fixed.
While the SDF-1 is much better.
Gundam RX78-2 looks like crap, even the newer version from the RG toy.
VF-1 valkyrie will always look good forever. It aged very well.
Z Gundam looks like a giant brick that would never be able to fly. While macross Valkyries look like real airplanes when transformed.
There isn't a single Gundam design that is superior to any macross design.
Macross is just superior.
