What would mechs look like using WW2 technology? What would they be armed with? Would they be crewed by a team? Would they have specialised roles like WW2 tanks did?

I don't think it'll be tech that affects how they look like, rather, I think its the general trial-and-error method that happened with tanks that would lead to all sorts of mecha design until they get something good.

Good ol' tank guns and the occasional howitzer?

Possible.

If you mean in terms of roles like AA and whatnot, sure.
But in terms of tank types(Light, Medium, Heavy, etc), the mechs would probably have something similar, until they dump the whole Heavy-Mech concept later because cost and effectiveness. Then there's the brits with their cruiser tank and infantry tank, then later the universal tank projects, which is pretty much MBTs.

How much power does 2ch have in the anime world? I've heard rumors they were responsible for the changes in the second halves of Code Geass and Gundam SEED Destiny/00. They were also a big driving force in boycotting Gundam Age and whatever the hell Kokoro Concert is.

Functionally none. They're like 4chan but japanese only and much smaller. They're not a representative sample of anything.
They don't have power but they are a representative of the otaku's voice in Japan compared to 4chan considering, you know, they're the only demographic that largely buys it
Late night anime is targeted at otakus
Lots of otakus browse 2ch
Thus, lots of otaku can "target" late night anime by doing things like lots of hateposting or "trolling the pre-orders".
Also the Kokoro Connect thing was about some of the staff members being assholes mainly

Code Geass was because the timeslot shifted from it's late night time to a primetime slot so a lot of things had to be rewritten.
I'm pretty sure all the problems with SEED Destiny were purely internal.
00 was also internal but that was because the higher-ups listened too much to dumbass Gunotas and their "not muh Gundam". Really Kokoro Connect is the only example you have of 2ch actually having an effect on something.

Well they were but supposedly the reason that nobody higher up stopped Fukuda from switching the lead to Kira is because all 2chan did was bitch about how they wanted Kira back and fuck Shinn. And the reason the show focused so hard on the Shinn vs Kira part after a while is because 2chan was hyped beyond hyped at that shot of them fighting in the first OP.
And SF was as overpowered as it was because of all the things 2chan thought it had (Dragoon wings, wings of light like Destiny etc) Fukuda saw and decided to add. And IJ's entire existance (and Savior shafting as a result) was because 2chan said "Well if there's an upgrade Freedom there should be a Justice too!" etc.
Basically every time 2chan was in agreement about something Fukuda went "That's a great idea we should totally do that"
So why couldn't they get an actual series going for F91?
Seems like it would have been pretty great if they where allowed to actually explore some of this shit and characters. Loved the mecha

I think Victory is pretty much the TV version of F91, with Tomino using ideas he couldn't flesh out in the movie.
I just really wish we could get late UC explored more. Shit's crazy

As much as I would have loved to see KouAidou sub this show (though she will rest happy knowing of these news, I'm sure), at least it's nice that it'll get the next best thing, even if the quality varies.
