I feel like Kamen Rider 1's final run would have worked better with a series like Drive. One that stresses justice and has a character who is acknowledged as Kamen Rider by the public masses. Also is a grown man.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

There are numberous reasons why SEED did well, and a few damning ones why they abandoned the timeline after Destiny.
To start with, Gundam changed channels at this time and managed to snag something no other Gundam had before SEED. On TBS, SEED was airing during the Sunday evening timeslot. Friday and Saturday evenings are nice, but Sunday is where it's at. It is one of the most convenient timeslots in all of Nippon.
So with that set, Banrise set about making the most marketable Gundam ever. Announcing the show as the 21st century version of First Gundam managed to snag quite a bit of press. They had popular music artists perform songs for the show, as well as lend their voices to minor characters, in order to cash in on those performer's star power. TM Revolution in particular. Obari posing made the show look epic, while the character designs looked pleasing to the female audience. And at the end of the day, the melodramatic characters were a big hit among teenage girls.
But, this all came at a cost and ultimately, the audience they attracted was not the one Bandai wanted.

I don't like Macross, but I love Mospeada.
I like American shit. I've got Robot Jox and Pacific Rim on Blu Ray along with Robot Wars, Crash and Burn, Transformers G1, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Transformers: Animated, and Exo-Squad Season 1 on DVD. I also have Robotech on DVD, but that's mainly because Mospeada DVDs are expensive. I'd buy the shit out of Sym-Bionic Titan, Megas XLR, and Exo-Squad Season 2 if they'd sell them to me. Hell, I'd buy the Battletech and Heavy Gear cartoons if they were on DVD (Heavy Gear is on DVD, but it's not complete).
Speaking of Battletech, I like Battletech. MechWarrior 2 was one of the things that got me into mecha. I liked the Battletech cartoon when I was a kid. I read the books on occasion. I'd even play the game if anybody would play with me.
I like Toeizinger and Mazinkaiser, and I love Mazinkaiser SKL, but I loathe Shin Mazinger. I don't get you guys.
I think toku is /m/, but spaceships are not. Super Sentai has robots in it. Kamen Riders are either cyborgs or dudes in powered armor. Ultras, at the very least, punch robots on occasion. Godzilla fights MechaGodzilla. At the very least there's a line that you can draw through the genre so that it makes sense here. Star Trek doesn't have anything to do with giant robots!
