Mk IIs in almost every case. RX was outclassed by even the Rick Dom iirc, or maybe the Gelgoog. Anyway they are seven years too early to think about facing the Mk IIs. It's close enough to imagine that with the right tactics or some incredible luck the RXs could rape em good but in open space they'll get hammered.
What are your opinions on Genocyber? Always felt it had an unfair reputation from people disgusted by the gore. The first OVA is probably one of my favorite apocalyptic stories because it really nailed the feeling of everything just spiraling out of control into complete chaos.

I actually really enjoy the world building in episodes 4 and 5. It's got a very rustic look to it all.
It's experimental and not for everyone, so I understand the bad reputation. But I feel that it's very underrated. I love the surreal horror vibe. The OST is great. One of the best 80s OVAs in my book.

When I was first getting into toku it was one of the first things I watched I rly enjoyed it. Had a good world and a good feel to it and I enjoyed the characters and transforms. Not the best show by far but an enjoyable thing if u love toku

Seeing as just about every colony we see in UC Gundam shows is either destroyed, gassed or dropped onto the Earth, I'm inclined to say that they were a bad idea.

I think it'd be a neat idea to have him to AC designs for a particular corporation, and get someone else to do another. Problem with that is if the styles are too different, we'd get something like fA, where several parts just plain don't look good on anything but their respective frames.

So how popular was Macross 7 in its day?
I know it has very mixed reception on /m/ and other English speaking sites, at least compared to SDF, Plus, and Frontier (on any site but /m/, really).
But from what I gather it has more media than any other Macross. It has the most episodes, several OVAs and an original movie - far more than any other entry. It had to be somewhat popular for their to be a demand and audience for all of it.
Very popular. Number #1 on the major popularity polls of that year, etc. It was the Macross show, Plus was the side thing that people cared a lot less about there while in the West people think Plus is their Gritty Mature Drama.
The only thing which kind of cut short how long it remained popular was a little anime coming out one month after it ended that you may have heard of called Evangelion.

There's never been a bad Macross imo. II, Frontier TV (40%), and Zero were lukewarm with some redeemable aspects. 7 was great except for some shitty villains (those two devlins near the end) and too many recycled songs, just some cuts and it wouldn't have been such a slog.

They tightened it up after a bit, cutting the time down to ten seconds compared to Kabuto's seven. Still a talky belt, but it's not nearly as bad as in the first few episodes.

The core fighter seems like a really superfluous gimmick. If the legs or torso or compromised you're left with half a mobile suit or possibly none at all. If you really want a fighter that badly you could just have the entire god damn suit transform and if you want an escape pod that's fine and dandy too. Hell, you could have a transforming suit with an escape pod cockpit. But having a suit split into parts which assemble on the battlefield is a titanic gamble and the joint where the leg and torso parts connect is one hell of a weak spot. If an enemy MS pilot got creative he could wedge those apart and end your battle real quick.
