A few months back we had a nice little thread about this series of novels and their live action, anime, and manga adaptations.
The legendary real life Japanese robot, Gakutensoku makes an appearance early in the series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gakutensoku
The series has an antagonist whose appearance was the inspiration for Capcom's M. Bison, too. His name's Kato, and he wants to make Tokyo into rubble.

For the record, this is Kato. His character design is very influential.
The author was also responsible for translating alot of western fantasy like Lovecraft, Conan the Barbarian and Dunsany.

So Legend of the Galactic Heroes is apparently getting translated, and it seems the first volume released a few days ago. Has anyone on /m/ had a chance to read it yet?

I received my copy in the mail the other day but haven't had a chance to read it, but everyone with the mental capacity beyond a mentally retarded finch bathing in a vat of embalming fluid seems to like it.
They changed Bittenfeld's name to Wittenfeld.But aside from that odd translation, it's solid. It is a tad dry, but it's very well paced.

In my opinion, it Tau`s Battlesuit can be called the best western mek-design: beautiful, efficient, customized and designed to interact with others forces...
In fact, it is such and should be a real fighting robots :)

tbqhfamalamadingdong, Tau battlesuits, if a bit skinny, are about as close to plausible as can be. Smaller the better. 4 meters is about the extreme limit of modern technology but you're building it out of plastic.

Using Vallejo primer with an Iwata neo air compressor is causing alot of sputtering, even though the paint tends to look ok once it dries.
