Keep in mind Mika fights against second-rate pirates, glorified militarized police forces, and an honor guard, most of whom don't see real battle all that often (if ever).
Fun fact: In a way, these two protagonists are the closest to being Gundam.

It's mostly an OAV thing. The recent STRAIT JACKET anime was pretty horrific, but a one-shot. The BLUE SEED series had oodles of giant insectoid ickieness, TERRAFORMERS is not for the squeamish, and the GARO anime series matched the live-action originals with dark deeds.

May somebody be kind enough to do a list of recent Super Robot animes that are worth watching? It's for a friend of mine, he isn't into old stuff, sadly, and he already watched TTGL, Diebuster and Gunbuster.
I was thinking of Daimidaler, but I would like to hear /m/ suggestions too.

Fuck no, it is so lazy in its animations and designs it is repulsive; on top of that the moral is horrifically executed and the protagonists are (mostly) vicious fucks.

Why do people say the animation was bad? I thought it was pretty good
Character animation was good.
Mecha animation was a bit cheap, though the choreography helped lessen the QUALITY effect.
It's the same with Trigun, the action choreography was good enough that I never noticed how much QUALITY there was until someone pointed it out.

When I watched it I thought it looked great because I was so captivated by the story, characters and choreography to notice all the QUALITY moments the show has.

I'd rather Anno enjoy what he's working on again, instead of putting years of labor into something he seems to despise at this point.
Anyways, i'm not sure how well his Godzilla will do in the end. Japan liked legendary Godzilla, but that's likely due to Hollywood production values. Toho Godzilla is dead in the water over there. Anno has a expectations of special effects to meet, that might not be within Toho's current budget.
