Was Zeon literally Nazi Germany? Do we know anything about their economic policies? Were they a national socialist regime? If that's the case, how many Zeonboos here also browse /pol/?
No, Zeon was Zeon. It has parallels, but Nazi Germany did not exist in space colonies and believe in space men with psychic powers. Hitler won largely through popular support, not through secretly assassinating a famous borderline religious leader.
Zeon indiscriminately killed any civilians in space colonies to gain an advantage and reduce the population to make it easier to control. The nazis waged war on the surrounding nations and firebombed them, but only committed targeted genocide against the Jews in the Holocost. Horrid, but still very different.
Gihren was obviously meant to be comparable to Hitler, as his own father states, but they are NOT one and the same.
Zeon-ism is just not liking the Earth Government, with a little mystical newtype bullshit. The fact that it has so many splinter groups goes to show how loosey-goosey the ideology is.
So, Zeon compares pretty well to a number of polities - the Axis states being the most obvious. I think the choice to mirror the Nazis more overtly was a way of aligning Zeon with Imperial Japan and her crimes without being all like "We Wuz Murderers an Shit," which I doubt would go over very well in Japan on a commercial level. Instead, we've got factions like the Gihren faction and the Delaz fleet as more obvious analogs to Japanese war-tie & post-war elements.
You can also draw parallels between Zeon and the Colonial United States. The under-taxed and relatively autonomous colonials demanding more rights than they've earned or are willing to pay for. Zeonic Newtypism, the generic "space makes us better people" kind, compares very well to American exceptionalism. It doesn't matter where you came from, what matters is that you come here and then you'll be better for it.
The real sticking point is the Zabi family's role in Zeon. Japan, Italy, and Spain all had fascist leaders that were, in theory, subordinate to their monarchs. Hitler's Germany never reinstated the Imperial family, although Hitler aspired to be like their ancestors - namely Frederick the Great. There's a part of me that wants to draw parallels to Oliver Cromwell's Commonwealth seeing as his successor was his own son, Tumbledown Dick, but it doesn't seem right. Although, his "reductions" of Scotland and Ireland were destructive as fuck. Not Operation British and murdering fellow colonials destructive, but the 17th Century didn't have lasers and shit.
Anyways, as for economic policy, I'd be surprised if they actually compared to Nazi Germany. Sure their development process with all of its derivatives and variations is as Nazi as can be, but the Nazis were slow to actually mobilize their economy for war. Peak economic mobilization was ~'42, I believe. Can't imagine Gihren's Zeon producing many civilian goods during the war itself. Maybe this element is more Japanese? I can't entirely be certain.

Kinda interesting that the idea of mass produced mecha is basically put off as a pipe dream in this episode.
It seems only highly specialized stuff that works off of superhumans powers is any good.

Did you watch the preview?
NUTS mirrors the release of the first mecha show with a sentai-like team. If the timeline continued to mirror real life, mecha might get more popular as it enters the eighties.

The NUTS are being put out of commission but he isn't making it public for the sake of goading the renegade superhumans into attacking them.
Since the preview seems more concerned with that fear mongering movie, it's pretty clear that they're only going to be a footnote in history.

I was spoiled of the Gorilla scene, but that's about it. I thought it was going to lead into how Hazama was going mad, but not at all. Holy shit, I didn't know this show was going to take me to the moon and back.

Let's talk about how the Tallgeese was way fucking cooler of a design than any of the titular Gundams in Wing.
Looks like something out of Xenogears. It almost doesn't fit with the rest of the shows designs but that makes it even better since most of the rest are shit.
I love how it's thighs and shins are extra-long in proportion to the rest of its body. And that mohawk really gives it a Roman look.
The actual reason I watched wing. That said I only watched 14 episodes and said fuck it.
The Leo was one of the best designs in the history of mecha, so any variant is pretty much bound to do well.
