Remove Zeta and MSG and CCA make sense. Zeta throws a wrench into the storyline by massively changing Char and then having him massively change off screen again between Zeta and CCA.

We're pretty far along in GBFT. I know it's not quite over yet, but we've seen a lot of things that could've been really great, but sadly were not.
So /m/, what would you have changed? How would you carried out the story if you were in charge, working with the characters and mecha given? Rearrange the story? Introduce characters earlier? Change their roles?

Make the story last 2 years since Try also suffered from S1's pitfall of "(relative) unknown thrust into the stage and win it all in one go", which also gives time to actually develop characters, rivalries, and such. Also remove Lady and Assimilation since they are pointless
Watched Origin, not bad...but the one thing that always got me about Gundam.
ANY civilization advanced enough to build these megaliths of human ingenuity would have same said ingenuity to build ships of these same size to act as generation ships. WHY THE HELL DIDN'T THEY?

Char has a much more interesting background.
If Char were the main character. Then Gundam would be like Code Geass but with much more cool looking robots.

Well done bad guys are usually more interesting than the main characters because they need clear and understandable motivations as to why they are bad. Good guys can just react to them and the situation. Poorly done bad guys are just evil for evil's sake.

Within 0079 specifically, Amuro has less of a backstory but a lot more character progression. A lot of the point of the show was to portray war as a bad thing that fucks people up and changes them despite the fact that it's using giant robots to do this.
I feel bad now for not having watched Gargantia when it came out. It's a nice show.

This may be the single stupidest moment in Gundam history. This is far worse than Yohan and Peewee singing about stolen meat. Worse than Wufei getting out of his Gundam because Treize wanted to fence. Worse even than Nicol jumping on Kira's sword.

There are literally two trailers out right now. Wait until we can actually see the whole thing. The mechanical designs are typical beautiful stuff that Bloklamp is known for at this point.

I'll tell you after I've seen it. I think it's a tad premature for discussion of it.
Just finished the first episode. Here are my thoughts.
+ I enjoyed the realistic way the mechs maneuvered in zero G. They have some sort of air propulsion for space which is a nice touch.
+ everything beeps, whirrs, clacks, & makes other noises, even when it's unnecessary. Gives the show a good sci-fi feel.
+ The 3 lenses on the mechs looks really interesting, & them making a camcorder sound when they switch is a nice touch, but everything seems to make noise in this show.
- Subs were kind of hard to follow. Often times I had to pause to re-read things because of all the new character names & factions being thrown at me, though this may not be G_P's fault.
Overall, pretty promising. How many episodes do I give this before I decide to watch the whole thing? 3? 6?

Kind of hard to say as it takes some time before the story starts to pick up the pace. I'd say 7-9 episodes.

It depends if you like Uodoo or not. If you do (like I did, probably because of too much 2000AD as a kid), then you'll probably be into it from the second episode.
If not, then you'll have to wait a bit for things to go crazy in Uodoo and things to get extremely explode-y. But six episodes in should get you in. If you REALLY hate Uodoo then try and power through until you get to the next arc (around episode 12 or so).

MJP was the best show
Gundam failed to really take hold in the West sadly. It's mostly a Japanese only series.
What went wrong?
First off, Gundam's popular throughout South East Asia, so it's not just a mostly Japanese series.
Second, it's because Bandai fucked up the US distribution and once you start distributing shit to the US, the massive reach of American corporate structures renders distributing it to other markets difficult. So once America turned away from Gundam, the rest of the world outside of SE Asia was fucked.

Wing was successful. In fact, more so than in Japan. Likely because for the West it was fresh and new, while at the same time being the perfect show for teens.
Skip MSG entirely due to its antiquated animation. I'm fine with it, since i like 70's and 80's animation. Skp Z and ZZ too since they need MSG to make sense.
Then they should have aired the well animated OVAs and films.

Then keep going with all the new Gundam shows out. Air Gundam X and then continue onwards from there.
For the 20th anniversary of MSG, remake the entire show's animation. This would have been perfect introduction for the American Gundam fans to MSG.
