Looking to replace my gas cap with an aftermarket one that locks for security measures. My current gas cape is tethered to my car, is there a proper way to remove it? Will an after market cap make the CEL come on?
>>15208107
>Will an after market cap make the CEL come on?
Only if it doesn't seal properly.
>>15208112
I see, thanks! How about removing the tether?
>>15208140
depends on the car I'm sure it's just some clips, or a bolt or two. I checked my gas cap to see but mine isn't tethered to anything
just what do you mean a security gas cap? Do you have an american shitbox where you open the cover manually?
Ok, /o/.
So the other day I was driving my '92 Ford F-150 XLT. I was coming back from town and I noticed my engine started smoking immensely. I seen my coolant gauge was near the overheating level.
So I chanced it, and drove over to a friends house. I opened the hood and radiator coolant was everywhere. *Predominantly on the left side of the engine*
I went inside, and got some water from him and poured it in the coolant cap and went to the local mechanic.
He found a hose had rotted open, and was spraying coolant on my alternator (causing the...

be more specific.
also why did you go to a mechanic when you could have replaced the hose your self wtf?
>>15208848
Specific? Whats missing?
But at the time, I did not know a hose was leaking, I thought something was up with my radiator. But the mechanic is just some local farmer, really.
>>15208879
>does it whine when your idling
>when you accelerate
>when you turn
>does it only happen above highway speeds
>can you hear it in the front end or rear?
>does it resonate through out the cabin?
thats whats missing retard.

Fix Or Repair Daily
I'm sorry for your loss

I think you meant, Fix It Again Tony
Buddy is a car guy, we're both SAHD. Just found out his toddler has leukemia.
Was thinking of making this shirt for the kid. Brand faggotry aside, what does /o/ think?

Get a job, losers.
>>15207856
kill the little fucker
Ignore the negativity. Go for it man.
How possible is this, truthfully?
Pretty easy
Small shitboxes usually go for that much
Pretty common, they almost always have some sort of serious drivetrain problem though but many still run.

Should i replace the tuning belt or is it fine to keep using pic rel belt for couple thousand miles more?
Im no ezpert bit it looks fine to me.
Also, should i replace the tensioner if it has really small shaft play in it?
Im poorfag but i dont want to get even poorer by poor decisions
Timing belt* ofcourse
>>15207797
You already have it off so why not just go ahead and replace it?
>>15207797
I want to say replace it since you're already balls deep into the job, but at the same time, that belt does look really fresh.
Some time ago i drove past this house with TONS of cars.
i will dump pics now

feel free to post your own pics my friends

I'm looking at this '05 Chevrolet Colorado (99K miles) on a dealer lot, and everything checks out except for what I found in the undercarriage. This looks like a lot of surface rust on the frame and other tiddlybits underneath (nothing on the body), but nothing is going through. Is this typical? How much surface rust is too much? I'm financing it, so I'd like it to last me at least 3 years.
I know the pic is shitty because I took it at dusk when the dealer was closed. It's close by so I can take a better look at it later. What do you guys think?
>>15207736
......Your financing an 11 year old truck? With 100K miles on it?
What the fuck OP
>>15207736
Depends on where you live. I've got a 98 vehicle and live in a swamp and mine looks a million times better than that because they don't salt the roads here. Anyway, scrape at a few patches and see how deep it goes before you get to good metal.
Those brake lines look like shit in any case.
>>15207736
>05 Chevrolet Colorado (99K miles)
>I'm financing it,
LMAO, i'm pretty sure the banks wont give you a loan for a car that old and that many miles. get something newer which will actually last like a toyota or honda.
you'd be retarded to get it, without knowing its past and that many miles shits garanteed to break
Is the Toyota Celica a good first car?
What issues can I expect to have?
Does anyone own one on /o/? What do you think of it?
>>15207638
Ricer
>>15207638
Yes
Pretty good if you get the 1.8 2zzge
What's a good car to travel long distances and sleep in?
>>15207475
a comfy sedan and a hotel.
Buy an old work van, strip everything aside from the front seats, build a platform, order a foam twin size mattress for 200 bucks, build storage racks for tools and essentials, install another battery in the back for mini fridge and lighting, buy propane stove, buy totes from walk mart for storage. Done
My friend did this and just lives in his van now. He's been travelling the US for the past 4 years and living every second of it
>>15207475
Astrovan
-Cheap to buy
-Cheap to maintain
-Parts are plentiful if needed
-Low 20s MPG(not bad for a home)
-Plenty of room for extra shit
-Reliable
I think the previous owner fucked up something with the parking brake shoe. I can full depress the parking break pedal and nothing happens.
Is pic related something I can do with relative ease or should I just take it to a mechanic?
Depends, but its a very easy fix usually
Has it never worked or? Give us a bit more info
Honestly, all you probably need to do is tighten the cable
>>15207443
It hasn't worked since I got the car. You push down the Pbrake and its pretty loose. Normally its not an issue because i live in the midwest, but now that the weather's nice its something i want to tackle.
its an 03 toyota avalon
Tell me everything you know about the ED/EF Civic! Just bought two for an absolute bargain, looking at building one cool one between the two and parting the other one to basically get a free car.
>>15207233
I know that they are light cars that handle great unless you slam them like the one in the pic you posted, that makes them handle like shit
>>15207265
late 80's and 90s hondas actually still drive okay when slammed compared to other vehicles due to their double wish bone suspension.
Hence their popularity amongst the california minitruck and lowrider scene in the 90s.
>>15207265
When you lower them it doesn't make them ride like shit. And that's not slammed.
Looking to start an na race engine build
I want to keep it na, so I'm looking for something with relatively high torque for good gains through changing cams, valves, porting
What is considered high torque for a 4banger? What is a good engine for this?
Is torque even important? Should I be going for revs instead?
Build a SD4 Iron Duke
20valve or gtfo
..so 4age probably because it got a largish aftermarket.
Or look into Toyota 3rz-fe motor..
It's 2.7 litre so one of the largest displacement 4cylinders available.
Why is the tenth generation Impala so perfect looking?
Looks like all the other generic boxes these days.
>>15206554
But anon, it looks awkward as fuck. Like it's trying to be a Charger, but got t-boned.
Fuck that the first and second gen were where its at when it was a muscle car
Was looking at used cars in the sub 6k range and found a few 1978-85 928's and 1985 944s. The look nice and run but the spare parts are so expensive. Is it worth it and are engine swaps posible being a front engine.
>>15206492
>engine swapping a fucking porsche
then what's the fucking point?
>>15206507
Because those cars are basically shitboxes? How much does it make without turbo, 70 hp?
>>15206512
Turboless 924 is 125/2 liters. 944 is 160/2.5 liters. Yes, it's worse than my dad's Focus. But is his Focus cool? Nope. It's an ancient shitbox, but it's a shitbox you can love.
>are engine swaps posible being a front engine.
Engine swaps are always possible, the only question is amount of work and the need to replace other stuff (mainly transmission).
