Tue chassis and frame was improved in 2003, it would be much better to get one of those and newer. If going below 2003, go with a Town Car for cruising or I'd look at the LT1 Caprice/Impala ss for speed.

as for a panther platform being a good first car, I'd think so. it is mine. it's safe and reliable. easy to fix / mod / learn on, and parts are relatively cheap. na v8 and RWD.
only cons are size (which is subjective), gas mileage, and public opinion (which may be more a problem in america, dunno about canada).

P is park. Use it to park. Only try to start the car in Park or Neutral. Once started, depress the brake pedal, shift to Drive (D) to go forwards, Reverse (R) to go backwards. Leave it in D at stoplights/signs, just give it a bit of brake pedal since auto trans cars creep a little bit at idle. Shift into Park once you've parked, then turn the car off.
