Use the old gardening trick, take some blank cds or reflecting pie tins and place them on the poles or hang them on rods near the curb, birds hate shit that reflects light back at them. A few hanging cds is all it took to keep grackles from eating all my parents strawberries, I thought they were crazy till I attached 6 blank discs over the edge of my car port, and now no birds squatting over the edge and pooing on my cars.

Fuck no. I bought my Suburban thinking I was gonna have off road adventures, but since I lived in the Suburbs, I used the 4x4 maybe once or twice.
Also towing doesn't make a difference.

Same. Drifted my jag into a curb last month, shattered the hub carrier and wheel. I put in a whole new hub assembly but something still sounds fucked and the exhaust has been pulled apart from going over a stupid construction curb. I don't want the car anymore but it was my baby and I always thought it'd be the only car for me. Got me through several suicide attempts and reckless drunk Driving. It's the only time I feel alive.
I can't go back because I started driving my brothers jetta which weighs half the amount and is standard. Too much fun to chuck...

Also interested. Googling doesn't return too much in the form of negative anecdotal experience in the same way it does for other engines (having said that, I've got nothing but great experience in terms of reliability with EJ25s).

Boxer engines are pretty much always less reliable than a v or a straight of similar size just because of they way they are designed.
That being said unreliable in this case is relative and you'll probably not have any major issues as long as you don't drive it like you stole it constantly
