I'd like to spend around $3500 on an older-gen Miata for a daily driver. I'd put fewer than 6,000 miles on it per year. The issue is I live in fucking Michigan, and not sure how it'd fare in the snow. I'd take care of it with regard to salt damage, but will snow tires and careful driving adequately deter me getting stuck on my way to class every morning?

Thanks.

You need two things:
And extra set of wheels and,
Snow Tires.
>>
You'll be fine with snow tires, the issue is more or less other people when it comes to the Miata given how horrendously unsafe they are. Also would recommend an NB over NA if any are in your budget; they're a direct upgrade.
>>
>>15459466
Why the extra wheels?

>>15459490
Duly noted, thank you. I'll keep looking, but only finding NA on my Craigslist.

What's the cost of ownership like between an A5 and a 4 series, or Audi and BMW in general? I'm eyeing both of these cars.

(Pic is pig at a car meet, there was one driving around before pulling everyone over)

Turn 16 - get learners. You have to do 75 hours of driving with a patent then a driving test and then a hazard test

Turn - 17 Get P plates. Can drive alone but can't drive V8s or turbos. Can only have 1 passenger, can't drive from 12-5am, no hands free phones. Limited to 100kmh, must have 0.00 alcohol limit. Must display P plates (literally police bait)

Turn - 18 Get P2s, same as Ps but don't have to display p plates and can have more than 1 passenger.

Turn 20. Finally can get full license then drive but Australia's driving laws are bullshit and you will loose your license for a little skid. (Some guy did a burnout in a carpark and got banned from driving for life because he was the head of a car club and car enthusiasts get treated worse by police than pedophiles and rapists.

i wish i could buy an alfa
all alfas are beautiful
147, 159, brera, giulietta
beautiful 2 liter diesel engines the cars output 150 hp and ~300 Nm of torque and theyre decently fast. they also handle like theyre on rails and the interiors are beautiful. after trying a giulietta 1.9 jtdm my 70 hp shitbox just doesnt cut it anymore and life is pain. i cant find a job and i probably will never be able to get 5k to get a 159/147/brera in decent shape. also i cant understand how people can say 150 hp is slow. i guess if you regularly want to go over 150 kmh it is, but overtaking people already going 90 is a breeze and i saw myself hitting 180 in a straight that's not even that long. what car do you wish you had /dbt/?

Breras and 159s are pretty, but heavy so they need some power to get moving.

You could find a 156, even a final facelift one, for next to no money if you look carefully.

Also,

Beats me. It's the last cheap minivan on the market. Nevertheless, they have made no indication that they will build a new one now that the Chrysler sister model has been redesigned.

Civic Si ep3 or em1, wrx if you can find one that isn't riced into the ground, lancer. Get more moneys noob.

Despite the obvious fact, that everyone on this board is utterly piss poor, i am gonna ask this.

Has anyone experience with koni yellow adjustables?

Are they way harder than the stock shocks?
Does the adjusting actually do anything noticably, or is it a gimmicky feauture?
Is it true you can rebuild them?
How is your overall experiece with them, if you have them in your..whatever honda del sol.

Are there other noteworthy alternatives in the same prive range? I dont want coilovers.

>Does the adjusting actually do anything noticably, or is it a gimmicky feauture?
Yes very noticeable
>Is it true you can rebuild them?
Never tried to but it seemed like they could be taken apart easily
>How is your overall experiece with them
Great. Would buy again
>

Tokico makes good stuff too.
Had some on my AW11 that i loved.
>dont want coilovers
I agree. Expensive for a disposable item
>>
>>15457578
I had Tokico's on an old car. You can only adjust the compression and not the rebound, or maybe they are tied together. Was nice to go from stiff ride to smooth for trips. Overall would buy again versus an OEM strut but an absolute joke after I bought a sport bike and learned about fully adjustable suspension.
>>
>>15457578
I've got Koni adjustables on my DD.

>Are they way harder than the stock shocks?
They have significantly more damping.

>Does the adjusting actually do anything noticably, or is it a gimmicky feauture?
You can adjust rebound damping, the adjustment has a limited effect on compression damping (almost none). It is not a gimmick, but you won't see any benefits if you don't know what you're adjusting and don't have springs stiff enough that your stock shocks leave you underdamped.

>Is it true you can rebuild them?
You can have a shop rebuild them, even custom valve and adjust them for a given effective spring rate (this requires math involving the suspension geometry if the springs aren't over the shock, like on trailing arm suspension)

>How is your overall experiece with them, if you have them in your..whatever honda del sol.
I love them. My spring rates are stiffer than stock by 280%/145% (front/rear), with a little trial and error adjustment the ride is just how I wanted it, with no bounce.

>Are there other noteworthy alternatives in the same prive range?
Depends on the car, not for mine.

rate my first car /o/

I'm about to buy my first car. I would really like a 60 Series land cruiser I really love the way they look when in good condition. I live in Australia and already do a lot of camping and hiking and I feel like this car would support my interests well and I know driving one would put a massive grin on my face.

I just wanted to see what peoples thoughts are on these vehicles, specifically I want a HJ61 which is a turbo diesel. Will it be a good first vehicle?

I checked carsales and at the moment there is only one turbo diesel 60 in my country and it looks completely thrashed.. I have a bit of time on my hands at the moment (5 months) and I'm a pretty handy person would restoring a thrashed 60 be very expensive? I am not too worried for original parts but I would like to just make the thing look nice.. This is assuming it's mechanically sound and I don't have to worry about the engine.

Appreciate any advice you may have.

Get one.
You won't regret it.
And I'd be jealous.
I own an 87 FJ60 with the 2F gas motor and I'd love to have a factory diesel.
>>
60 series ride like crap. Very common for the roof to be rusty as fuck. Swivelhubs will probably be leaking. Get at least an 8) series if you want a cruiser. I'd personally recommend a patrol. Stronger gbox and diffs.

Cover it with petrol, and set it alight. The flames should burn the rust off, and cleanse it.
