neither.
Yu're not going to find a manual IS300/Altezza, and you aren't prepared to deal with a rotary engine.

Your best options are the GM F-body twins and the Ford turdstang

So I'm taking an economics class and we were going over a 'supply and demand' concept. Basically the way I understand it, the more people want something, the higher the price goes, until more of that thing is made and sold, and then the price falls. It's a strict law of nature that if less people want something the price will go down, and if more people want something the price goes up.

I'm thinking about it, and I'm thinking this could be applied to the new car market. Everyone bitches that new cars undergo horrible loss in value when you buy them, right? A 30k car could turn into a 20k car the second it leaves the dealer's lot. That's a huge amount of money just totally vanished and removed from the economy forever, and it's the reason why it's a better idea to always buy used.

What if everyone collectively decided to not buy cars for a few months? By law the price of new cars will go down, and eventually it'll get to the point where a new car could be at the price of a used car, and at that point everyone could just buy the new cars at used prices and avoid the depreciation hit. This way, everyone saves some money and it's not removed from the economy. Any thoughts?

this is entirely true. look at the results cash for clunkers had on the used car market for 2009 through 2013 or 2014 or so. it took years for the mega cheap used car market to come back because the majority of the supply was decreased while demand for cheap cars actually increased on account of the economy being fukt.
>>
>What if everyone collectively decided to not buy cars for a few months? By law the price of new cars will go down

it doesn't work like that because of leasing and the fact that corporate fleet vehicles are (generally) never older than 4 years old
>>
>>14906340
yeah I was thinking about that earlier. Since there's only so many used cars left in the supply, any huge hit to the used car market permanently increases prices since there's no additional used cars entering the market, they're all new

>>14906349
well yes, for this idea everyone would have to get together and agree not to buy or lease new, only used

What is a cheap way to tune my car?

These things cost $400 for a tiny ass computer that you can buy for $10 at Wal-Mart. I'd rather just buy a tuner membership for $150 from them.

You need an OBD reader?
>>
youre not paying for the computer.

youre paying for the time and effort someone to develop software for the platform.

the obd2 scanner at walmart is no where near tuning software.

gotta pay to play.

after that, forum knowledge is free and pulls on the highway are only the cost of fuel.

Requesting help from anyone who is knowledgeable about California smog laws.

Right now as it stands by law you can only have any 1 single smog readiness monitor in the incomplete state and still pass the test.
On the Bureau of Automotive repair website they list the smog regulations as being updated on May 4th, 2015.

I'm having trouble completing two of the monitors on my 97 nissan even after doing the drive tests and going 500+ miles. I now have the feeling that I always had 2 incomplete monitors but since I haven't done a smog since 2014, the new regulations weren't yet in affect.

What I'd like to know is: before may 2015 how many smog readiness monitors could you have incomplete and still pass CA smog for a '97 model car
Was it one or two?

Get a bluetooth module and the torque app.
It will give you output of the monitors.

What I have found, is if you have a weak battery, it will drop the monitors on startup.

What I do is drive the vehicle in one sitting, until the monitors have cleared, then take it in without ever shutting it off.

As for the law stated. you can pass with an incomplete evap system only, as that can take many miles and days to clear.

What monitors are you having the issue with?

So I just got a car, I won't say what because reasons, it has coilovers and is lowered. Not sure how much, came that way.
I hit a bump on the freeway after I bought it on the way home, and it bounced so fucking hard repeatedly that the car almost went sideways on the freeway. It was funny at the time but has made me nervous about freeways.
Is this normal for lowered cars?

The suspension on my DD 97 Civic is completely fucked so I'm thinking of retiring it after 11 years of ownership. My criteria is fwd or awd hatchback with a manual transmission. I do a bunch of driving in the mountains, so something with a turbo would be preferred. I went and test drove a few cars at the local dealers today. Am I missing any other contenders?

Here's what I drove with some comments:
VW Golf GTI S:
- Transmission is very notchy compared to my Civic
- Clutch was hard to judge. Stalled it a few times on the test drive.
- Engine is gutless until the turbo spools
- Firm but refined ride
- Nicely weighted steering, good handling
- Like the cloth seats (plaid)
- Plain but very nice interior overall, very quiet
- Rear seat pass-through is a plus for skiing
- Android auto was nice
- Best visibility
- Terrified by the supposed VAG reliability issues

Mazda 3 i Hatch:
- They only had the 2.0 in manual transmission so I drove that. I think I would go for the 2.5 if I went with a 3.
- Butter smooth transmission...almost Honda-tier
- Hood is gigantic. Seemed difficult to judge where the front of the car is.
- Interior parts overall look nice but feel kind of chintzy.
- Somewhat loud inside.
- Decent handling but salesman was a cunt and only let me go on traffic filled roads, so I didn't get to push the car
- Wasn't a huge fan of the screen sticking out of the dash.

Fiesta ST w/ Recaro's:
- Dealer just threw me the keys and said be back in an hour.
- Amazing handling
- Rev happy engine, very fun to push. Builds boost very quickly.
- Definitely put a smile on my face
- Decent transmission
- Very stiff ride on broken pavement.
- Interior was decent but you can definitely tell its an econo-box.
- SYNC is terrible
- Rear visibility is terrible, this car should have a backup camera
- Not a lot of space in the back

Focus ST
- Torque steer
- Was OK overall but I felt like the Fiesta was the better drivers car

Anything else I should check out /o/?

What's going on here? I got a 97 Accord LX manual with 170,000 on it. Engine runs good, nice acceleration and seems very well taken-care of.

I notice that in order to get from neutral into first gear without the car shuddering and engine seeming in danger of stalling, I need to give it like 3000 RPM before I start letting the clutch out. 1st to second is better, although still a little rough, and all the other gears are fine.

I've driven manual before and this seems quite a lot of revs to need to get in drive, although I've seen people drive like this before but I always thought they were just bad drivers. Is it just what this car needs, or is it like a bad clutch or something? The engagement point seems high which I've heard is a sign of bad clutch... but there is no hesitation upon accelerating once in gear, and there is no trouble getting into first either as long as I rev it hard enough.

Your car won't stall in neutral

Your transmission will have a hard time getting into first if you rev to 3k then try to put it in first dude

Doesn't seem like it

honestly sounds like the clutch/flywheel is going. Replace them both.
