Hello guys,
I am from Europe. My parents are switching to a station wagon BMW around March and they will give me our old Sedan , the Toyota Corolla XLI from year 1997 . They said they will repair everything on it ( we put on a new injection for fuel three days ago on it ) and now everything is fine . What do you suggest me to change in this car. It is a manual petrol. I was thinking about changing the radio and get it a nice touchscreen with bluetooth on it and also change the speakers and the seats ( because I don't like th eoriginal ones ) .Any other ideas ?
I don't know...
...maybe bracing your ass for a massively boring car.
But it will probably never let you down and probably even outlive you (once it passed the 5th hand and becomes an eternal taxi in Africa)

That sounds fun . The same car fell from a cliff back in 2000 and it was repaired back to normal and it works fine by the way
not worth to put new seats in it. buy new speakers and give it a really thorough wash outside and clean up the interior too
What is the most reliable car under $3,000, family?
Corolla? Civic?
Honestly, you can't go wrong with either.
Camry or corolla, yep.
>>14107496
Both cars you should be able to run the hell out of. But there is still that Civic tax where they are a little overpriced. But for $3k, you should still be able to buy a decent Civic.
All I'm saying is you could probably get a nicer Cobalt or Cavalier for the money, which are fairly reliable shitboxes. But I haven's seen them run to 200k miles with no maintenance like the average Corolla.
Hey /o/, merry Christmas! I've noticed starting today, my 2003 Corolla makes a pronounced "hissing" noise when I accelerate, mostly between 2-2.5 RPM and moreso at the start of whatever gear it's on. After it changes to 2nd gear, for example I'll hear it, but after being well into 2nd gear, the noise goes away. Honestly not sure if it's some metal-on-metal sound, or the intake manifold. Anyone have an idea what it may be?
Split vacuum hose? Get someone to rev it up and try and trace the sound. Is it still driving ok?
>>14107494
Had a quick Google because I'm in a festive mood and found this.
http://www.corolland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/23128-zzzzzing-noise-from-engine-bay/
>>14107512
At the highest rev before a gear change, the dash and car itself do vibrate quite a bit. Not so much like a horribly off balance tire, but a short buzz.
>>14107524
Thanks for the link, it similarly describes the noise I've had, and hoping it's just that small part rather than something major. The oil can also be a factor too, I have no idea how long it's been on the dealer lot, and I have no idea if they used the proper %w-30 oil or 0-30 since...

I'm 25 and never drove a car in my life.
Is it easy to learn to drive? My guess would be yes since millions of people drive.
>>14107486
Yes. Sure. But if you are terrible at driving right away, you will probably always be a shitty driver.
>Is it easy to learn to drive? My guess would be yes since millions of people drive.
You thought right.
/thread
Depends.
Driving an automatic is laughable easy.
Getting the license is also laughable if you live in the states.
It is tedious AND expensive if you live in Yurop and you have to REALLY learn all those game rules, otherwise you will not pass the test.
I have a 2001 Buick Lesabre with 220,000 miles and I'm debating buying another used car and selling this before it dies.
I've had the fuel pump replaced, was told it needs a lower exhaust manifold gasket and lower control arm. It overheats on interstate, has no heat (tried so many repairs with no success) has some body damage and now I'm getting a service engine soon light, I bought a code scanner but hasn't came in the mail yet. Do you think this car will last or should I get a Toyota in the 3,000 range.
>>14107280
Keep it
Its rwd
So it's already better than most of the /o/ cars
Get something more fun than a Buick or Toyota.
Go and buy a 180* thermostat, they come with 190* but with that, they run at about 200*.
>why buy a duelly when you are going to do this to it?
>effectively eliminates towing due to high center of gravity
>literally semi tires 40" plus
Why?
because they have small dicks
Fuck, how do you even use that bed? You'd need a forklift to lift shit into the bed. So this person essentially took all the truck out of a truck.
Holy shit.

>The results of the nitric oxide tests carried out by environmental group Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) and German state broadcaster ZDF - who broadcast it on December 15 - appeared to show similar discrepancies between "test mode" and road conditions to those found in Volkswagen cars earlier this year, revelations that triggered one of the biggest scandals in German automobile history.

How long until ETA focuses on Ford GM and Dodge?

Car companies do this so that you enjoy a more powerful, more fuel efficient car.
Only complete fucking retards care about vehicle emissions when china and india pollute so badly there are fucking seasonal brown clouds covering large chunks of our planet.
>buy used neglected shitbox
>open up hood
>see this
>>14106386
Should have opened it up before you bought it.
look under the hood before you buy it fuckface
>literally not opening the hood before buying it
You deserve the engine to not even be there
Hey guys i have a question about driving and i hope you can help me with it. I'm trying to get my driving licence and there is one thing that bothers me whenever i drive a car for practice.
When i change the gears, i have to hold the clutch, right? and then when i have changed the gear successfully from say 2nd to 3rd, i have to slowly take my foot off the clutch and gas at the same time, correct?
well my problem is, whenever i go through this process, my car starts to shake abit. like jumps a few times. its hard to explain but its not smooth movements. i want to...

No, that's only when you're starting from a stop, all you're doing is frying your clutch by slipping it excessively. You can dump the clutch after gear changes.
Jerking is probably because you let the revs fall way too far when shifting
>>14106297
so wait do you mean that i can start gasing and let go of the clutch? wont i stall?
>>14106286
>my car starts to shake abit
Need more gas.
I own a 2014 Audi A3, and a 1998 toyota corolla, but I always ALWAYS take the corolla whenever I need to go anywhere. I don't know why, but I love it to death, it's so fun to drive, no matter how slow it is. Why? Shouldn't the Audi be leagues more fun? I don't get it, /o/
>>14105902
>Audi
It could be that you have common sense that you aren't aware of and drive the hell out of the reliable car and leave the more fragile one at home until special occasions. That's what id do anyway if i had a combination of cars like that.
If you own a C5 vette and a Ferrari 575 don't take the ferrari out as much.
Just answering your question with my theory not trying to troll :^)
because it's an honest loyal companion, not an up-sold golf dreamt up by some marketing dept
OP here, I only take the audi out when I'm going to social occasions and gatherings with the girlfriend
What's the most amount of miles you accept when buying a car?
60,000
>>14103825
usually 140k if it's from some random from craigslist or whatnot. 200k if it's from someone I trust and know can take care of a car
Idk is 200,000 too much?
>Walk out of department store entrance.
>Car drives up and stops.
>"Hey do you have any money?"
>"I don't have fuel and my card has been declined."
It's that season again.
Who the fuck actually does this?
>>14103744
bums
>>14103744
nigs. can confirm have had many people ask me for gas
What's the cheapest car that isn't a maintenance nightmare and doesn't look retarded (19, little money)
the 'doesn't look retarded' part is pretty important, because I want sex and I don't want to get ragged on by the brahs for my ride
Unlike most of you autists I have too much pride in myself to drive a 30 year old piss colored rusted datsun. I was considering an e36 bmw but the subframe can crack and it's like an 8k repair then? Fuck that.

I think there's reinforcement kits to prevent this. Might wanna look into that.
