im leaving my car in a parking lot for 9 months while I deploy, its a ford fucking Taurus and i love it.
Im in el Paso, so im not worried about rain, but I am worried about my batteries and tires. I just got my oil changed today because I figured it would be better to have fresh oil sit in it.
Couple of questions
Should I put a cover on it? I have a car cover. I think a cover would help protect my leather from the sun
Should I wash it first?
should I fill it up? like with shell V-power or something?
anything else I can do?...

The tires may loose some air pressure, I don't store my cars with their proper tires on them I always toss on a set of bald winter tires for 6 month stints during the winter.
Oil is good, you made the right call there. For your gas, fill it with a high octane and put a fuel stabilizer in it, one designed for cars in storage. Should be able to find it at any auto parts retailer. You can put a battery tender on your car, but I disconnect mine and store them in my garage nice and warm. Cold will zap em of their juice and make them go flat.

I'd just go ahead and call that a year and who knows? It could turn into more.
Ideally, I think you'd want to take the wheels off the car and have it sitting on jacks or cinderblocks. Those tires will probably go flat just sitting there. Tires should be still good when you get back, but you'd want to inflate them back up first. Better to do that when they're off the car.
In general, you want to drain all the fluids....

I know a guy who moved to New York where he knew that he didn't want to drive so he had his fucking Toyota Corolla sent to his parents house across the country. A check in the main costs a lot less.
I have one of these, and it's at 5% oil life. Time to change that shit. And it needs to get done really soon, for obvious reasons. I'm a scrub, though. Have not changed the oil on a car before. My mom wants to have a pro do it, and she is the owner of the car, so I want to respect that, but the place she told me to take it to has it done by appointment only and for a price that seems maybe a bit high. ($32ish). And there are no appointments open until Monday. I don't want to push this. I did only hit 5% a day or two ago, but still, this isn't one to procrastinate...

go to walmart they have oil changes ranging from 19.88 to 44.88$
i used to change oil there. its fuck easy and they use good oil
also dont worry too much on the 5% light. just check it and top it off if its low if you know you cant change it right now

At $32, I doubt you can get the oil and the filter for that price. And it isn't like it's your baby, it's someone else's car too.
How can they sell an oil change at $32 and make a profit anyway? It's like at least $25 for "meh" oil and $10 for the filter and then there's labor on top of all that.

Lets have a discussion on the BMW 3-series. Is it a good car to own? Are maintenance bills really so crazy? Does BMW really stand for "Big Money Wasted"?
I'd love to hear from past or current owners of e46 and e90 models, but feel free to add your own input if you have/had something else.
I've owned 6 BMWs - 3 E36s, 2 E46s, one E65 7 series.
They have been very reliable for me and cheap to upkeep/fix but I can't talk much of the maintenance costs as I'm an eurofag and maintaining german cars here is generally cheaper than in the U.S
I'd recommend you get an E46 330i or 330ci with a manual transmission if your budget is up to ~7-8k
If you can afford get an E90/92 335i, preferably the facelift one as it's more reliable than the first 335i's, but such cars cost about 13-20k in America if i'm not misinformed.

What is wrong with restoring a car? I kind of enjoy taking cars that are rough around the edges and restoring them to their former glory.
Also it might help to embrace the rice and just have fun.
That said if you want to find a 240 that is already daily driveable and stock you're going to have a bad time.
