Heres your reply
ITT things that never happened
I'd rather have a 370 than an FRS, but they're both slow and sound like shit anyway.

Hey guys, I need help.
So basically, all my life I've been pretty interested in cars. I did automotive courses in my first 3 years of highschool and I learned a lot about cars and their functions and how to repair parts of them, so I'm kinda well off in terms of knowledge.
However, my best friend is an absolute petrolhead. The kind of guy who can tell you what kind of engine is in any car, and can tell a car by it's exhaust. You point out any car to him and he'll tell you the make/model/year, and he's got this superb knowledge on cars....

Literally no joke, play a Forza motorsport game and try out as many cars as possible. They have a ton of great cars that you can recognize, common and uncommon. A lot of it is just acquired knowledge about specific cars though, if you're interested in a car you'll tend to research it.

I've always wanted to play racing games but
A) I don't have a console, so I'm limited to steam games
B) None of the steam racing games seem to include regular cars, it's all Formula 1 and I'm not a fan of drag racing.
Know of any good games to download? I've got an extra $17 sitting around on my steam account right now.

Absolutely agree with him.
It's through years and years of collecting knowledge, there's no cheat-sheets I'm aware of.
I'm a BMW guy, and in M3s, there's the different generations. In 2008-2013 M3's, they reworked the brake lights (LCI) in 2011, and the only way you can tell is the pattern of the brake lights. So I can peg an M3 down to a 2-3 year range, and based on the wheels, I can determine a lot of the features on the car.
This knowledge is from 2 years of being...

I need help finding a part. My fron left wheel has been making a screeching noise for weeks, as if it needed brake replacements. Thing is, disk and brake pads are relatively new. I finally got fed up with the squeeking and looked at it today, and found that the bottom mounting bolt, is missing this spacer. Pic isn't my car but it is related. The circled area is definitely the part i'm looking for, however I can't seem to find it online. I don't even know how to search for it. Caliper bracket bolt spacer doesn't bring up anything? Autoparts stores don't...

try and use the if you want but maybe that should work let me know if that works okay
To clarify, the circled part I was referring to is the Caliper Bracket Bolt circle. You can see that the mounting bolt has a metal spacer, then it hits the mounting area, then the caliper bracket. That spacer is what no one seems to know about, but my car does have it. I'm thinking that the uneven-ness in pressure when I brake, is what causes the squeeking. The bracket is actually scraping my rim.

what?
I just got a job as a valet. What should I expect? Anyone have any stories to share?
Bumping for OP.
How well does it pay? Average tips?
>>14702037
Expect to fuck up peoples' cars and them to get pissed off.
>>14702103
Hopefully not intentionally?
Went to /adv/ and got no replies. So I'm a delivery driver, and was parked on a college campus for five minutes (I'm also not a student there) and received a 75 dollar ticket from ''University Police''. It says they can hold my car registration etc. But do they really even have that kind of power? Has anyone dealt with this before? Will anything REALLY happen if I don't pay it?
>>14701920
Write them back and tell them to fuck off.
University police aren't real police and have no authority outside being dickheads. They can probably turn it over to collections but they can't fuck with you legally.
>>14701932
exactly what i was thinking man haha. I don't think they can turn anything over to the dmv or anything
>>14701920
Depends what uni, at mine university police are real cops (they all carry guns). But they don't write parking tickets. Parking enforcement does, but about the worst they can do is hand you over to collections, unless youre a student, then they can fuck with your class registration and graduation.
how much for part, full install, cables, anything else necessary to make it work?
>>14701800
not this specific handbrake, but any entry level one
About tree fiddy
So are you planning on threading the cables into the master cylinder or what's the thought process here.

How much money do you guys make?
I average 10k a year desu.
100k/yr is not upper class lol
>>14701714
As always it depends on where you live. In big cities you can find apartments for the same money you could get the better part of a house with in just a year or two in rural areas

In education w/job, 10/hr so around 12k/year. Pic related is where most of it goes to
It's pollen season. And my car looks awful, similar to pic related but not my car. Would it be worth washing it?
>>14701577
I know this feel anon. I just wait for the rain. Not much else than can be done unless you want to watch it everyday.
>Wax car properly
>Pollen gets on car
>Rinse it off with a hose
>Good as new
>>14701577
>Tree-cum all over your car
Wash it!
Actually with a decent enough wax it should slide right off
Lately I've been getting into the habit of using cruise control so I have a few questions about it
Does turning it on and off frequently fuck up the car? For example I'll do 65 but someone in front of me is going slower so I have to go around, then I start it back on is that bad?
When going to work, there is this section of the interstate that goes uphill and then downhill. When going uphill the tachometer amps way the fuck up, almost to 4 and the engine gets loud as shit like its struggling. Normally when going uphill I have to step on the gas hard and...

You should learn to use use the "coast" feature. Also, you don't have to turn it off when accelerating. It will return to the set speed once you take your foot off the gas.
>>14701262
I've never used it before so I'm still getting use to it. I remember seeing it on the owners manual but since then I lost the book. So honesty outside of setting the speed and turning it on/off I don't know how else to use it
The trick going uphill is that you have to help the car computer can't see, predicting the road. By that I mean try to accelerate the car 5-10mph before you approach the hill to create more momentum.
Hello gentleman. I'm working on my friend 98 explorer 4.0 SOHC standard. We have a no cranking situation. I've put in a new ignition switch and clutch switch. If I jump a wire to the starter will fire up no prob. Fuses and relays are good. Any ideas?

My buddy bought a 92 Toyota pickup a few weeks ago, and it had this Tacoma xdrive badge on the tailgate. I can't find any info on a Tacoma xdrive and was under the impression that the Tacoma didn't start until the late 90's. Does anyone know what this is?
>>14700563
Lol it's not a Tacoma or an xdrive.
Someone's being retarded with badges
>>14700572
That's what I figured. I wanted a second opinion though.

BMW xDrive badge, it's like the next evolution in people putting M badges on their base 325. Now they're putting xDrive badges on random Toyota's
