Was looking at used cars in the sub 6k range and found a few 1978-85 928's and 1985 944s. The look nice and run but the spare parts are so expensive. Is it worth it and are engine swaps posible being a front engine.

>engine swapping a fucking porsche
then what's the fucking point?
>>15206507
Because those cars are basically shitboxes? How much does it make without turbo, 70 hp?
>>15206512
Turboless 924 is 125/2 liters. 944 is 160/2.5 liters. Yes, it's worse than my dad's Focus. But is his Focus cool? Nope. It's an ancient shitbox, but it's a shitbox you can love.
>are engine swaps posible being a front engine.
Engine swaps are always possible, the only question is amount of work and the need to replace other stuff (mainly transmission).
I have 240 mig and a oxy acet. I can fabricate stuff. What swaps are posible and are there any exmples?

old porsches are actually pretty reasonable for spare parts and reliability you start getting into trouble in the 80s and 90s

Don't you know that the 928 is a 5.0/5.4 DOHC V8 front engined gt? If you need more power/ engine swap it then you are actually a filthy pleb

They normally make about 220hp for the US versions. he ones for the European market didn't have cats at first so they were making about 240hp or so.

I should probably mention that this is for the original 4.5L V8.
Put in a v8 from a cayenne. Get the 350hp one.
Then it's all Porsche still and not ls1 stupidity that everyone does.

I see. I only checked 924 and 944 in the most basic versions since OP wanted cheapo ones.

Does it really have to be Porshce if it's not authentic? It's not like modern Porshce would be compatible. Can you upset people if you put Honda B-series or toyota 3S into it?

Fine put a ls1 into it then. Or a new Ford 5.0.

The 944 and 924 are actually good candidates for an Audi i5T swap, though you could probably swap in different Audi engines with a similar amount of effort (maybe the infamous 4.2 V8 or even the Gallardo/R8 V10).
I think the 928 was meant to have an Audi V10 originally, too.

>928 v10
Lol no, it was always going to be a v8. Would be awesome though.

They initially considered splicing two Audi 5 cyl engines together, but ended up deciding on developing an engine completely in-house.

Imagine that, a ~4.4l V10 engine that can take stupid amounts of boost and sounds like the Group B Quattros.
