Reposting this thread because it got pruned early due to yesterday's spam.

I'm looking for a SUV (or pickup) to call my adventuremobile. It needs to be manual transmission, and very spacey, as I'm 6'2 and hate driving in tiny cars. I'll also probably be removing all of the back seats and renovating the back of the vehicle into a little sleeping area with a mattress, heater and all. Something you would normally do in a van, except vans kinda suck.

I'm currently looking at the Subaru Forester but I'd like to get some recommendations from you all.

The Subaru Forester CROSSOVER is a very nice car.
It has been a CROSSOVER since its inception. And I highly suggest it.
It's probably the most SUV/Wagon level CROSSOVER vehicle out there. Which is great.
For a CROSSOVER.

Going to check out this 1997 Isuzu Trooper tomorrow, the guy is asking 1600 including tax ( pawn shop), 175k miles, all electric and AC works, no problems that he knows of. Anything to look for and advice on negotiating would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Tldr: buying first vehicle, what do?

175k miles is a lot, anyone think it's too much? What would you offer on buying this?

So I'm signing up with the Canakek Chair Force as an avionics technician and I'll probably be starting basic in a few months. I want to ditch my autotragic econobox for a fun driver-oriented car, but I'll only have maybe 13k in the bank or so by then, and my car is only worth 4k or so.

Anyway, my starting payment will be 50k/year or a bit over 4k/month. If I find that I like and don't suck at my job, that's 5 years (minimum) of stable and reliable income. According to /k/ (not the best source, I'll call a recruiter later) at least half of that will be disposable income.

If that's the case, I could set as much as, say, 800 or so per month to finance a good new car or an even better pre-owned car from a dealer. Or maybe get something cheaper and upgrade it myself. Does that sound like a good idea?

Pic related is just a possibility, not set on anything yet.

I'd say go for it if you can afford to save some with all the costs of the car and living expenses.

The new wrx is good. My dad just got one about a month ago and hes loving it.

Personally tho. I'd say get something 3 years old with low miles. Its almost new and a way better value
>>
>>14035766
It sounds like a horrible idea. Listen to your drill instructors or whatever they call them over there. You will not live comfortably throwing away more than half your money at a car that will be worth shit in a couple years. That isn't even including insurance.

Don't get married or buy a brand new car.
>>
>>14036636
>more than half

Less. Closer to ~40% of what is left of my disposable after living expenses and retirement savings. I don't have any plans to have a family or get a home larger than a townhouse later in life, so I don't have much to save up for.

>never buy new

Yeah, I'll probably just get something "new" from the last decade with under 50k miles or something.

>Camaro
>Civic Si

That's pretty much it. Why is hardly anyone offering coupes and hot hatches at the moment? You can't even get a Fiesta/Focus without having 4 doors on the damn things. You only need a sedan if you have a family or a shit ton of friends you're always driving around. 2+2 is fine if you just might need them in a pinch occasionally.

Hello everyone. I'm a Tire Technician at America's Tire, and I'm going to be posting this thread quite often on this board for the sole reason of helping you all.
I'm going to say it straight, sometimes some of the associates will lie just so they can make a sale, well I'm just some guy on the internet, and I'm actually here to help. Ask me anything, and I'll answer truthfully, and with the intent to help with the best of my ability.
Before you ask, I'm going to address a few things;
What can render a tire un-repairable?

>A nail/tear/general leak coming from the far shoulder, or sidewall.
We cannot perform repairs on leaks coming from the sidewall/shoulder because we use a plug and patch method, and if the repair is on the sidewall/shoulder, then the patch could lose it's hold due to the bend of the shoulder/sidewall, and fall off.

>The hole is bigger than the plug.
Rather obvious, if the hole is bigger than the plug, whether it be a huge bolt/screw, razor blade, or even something bigger like scissors (I've seen that before) we cannot repair it.

>There are 3 repairs that have already been performed on the tire.
Carving too many holes in a tire can make it weaker and weaker. We prefer to stop at 3.

>There's a gummy/gas station/DIY plug/patch in there already.
These plugs and patches aren't reliable, and most of the time render a tire destroyed, than repaired.

>The tire is older than 10 years old.
If a tire is older than 10 years old, we cannot even air/torque check it. Tires that are older than 10 years old have the possibility of exploding when inflating. Safety first.

>There is cord exposed.
Exposed cord means a tire has reached its end.

>A tire is bald.
No explanation needed.

CONT.

What can render a wheel/tire un-serviceable?

>See un-repairable
Essentially these are the main reasons we cannot work on a tire.

>Tire has a bulge/bubble in the side
Not only is this unsafe due to the possibility of explosion, but it can also throw off the balance of the wheel, and ruining the ride of the vehicle all together

>The wheel is too badly corroded
If a wheel is too badly corroded, the bead can slowly be leaking air from the rim flange.

>The beads are torn
Same reason as the wheel corrosion, if a bead is unable to seat and seal perfectly, air can escape, and cause the bead to unseat while driving which can cause a wheel to fly off the vehicle completely.

>Wheel has a break/crack in it
Keeping the weight of a vehicle on a damaged wheel can cause it to split, and destroy the assembly as well as the vehicle if traveling on a road.

How the fuck do I cure my boyracerness? I'm going to die or get fucked by the police sooner or later.

I drive a 2014 5.0 Mustang and literally cannot stop driving like a douchebag. I cut people off and speed everywhere cutting lanes like in some scenes from Fast and the Furious. I wasn't always like this.. I don't have the patience to be behind someone anymore. I'm fucking doing 1st gear WOT launches at u turns and everyone thinks they are going to crash into me because they don't think I'm going to gas it.

I mean shit. The other day I went from Atlanta to Orlando in FOUR fucking hours or something. I turned a 6 hour drive into a 4 hour drive by averaging 100+ and doubling the speed limit numerous times.

I'm not man. I'm fucking serious.

I can't stop driving like a fucking retard. I tell myself I'm not going to but I still do so. When I drove a crossover last year, I wasn't like this. Then I got the Stang and got more into cars and modding to the point where it's all I do. I even randomly downshift so everyone can here my blow off valves.

And I don't even know how I'm not pulled over yet. The other day I was swerving around traffic going mach 2 and said fuck it then I went on the emergency lane. There was a cop literally right there in front of the car to the right. He didn't even see me which is odd because I drive a bright red mustang.

What happens if you put this in a shitbox that requires unleaded fuel?
16 posts and 2 images submitted.

It won't run extremely well and you'll be down on power, but other than that I think you'll be fine. Just don't do it again and keep putting gas in it every time you drive to dilute the mixture wirh good gas.

Likely it'll run just will be running like dog shit but potentially might not run at all unless it's a flex fuel vehicle. Or if it's properly set up for it. I run my shitbox on e85 but I have the proper fuel setup and tune for it. The only real downside is less gas stations have it and I get about 15-17mpg city 24mpg highway where on "pump gas" I get about 20-22 city and 31 highway.

Hey /o/, whats your guys consensus on the Porsche 924?

I've always had a boner for 944's but the reliability, cost, and maintenance scare me. I'm not afraid to wrench but the stories seem quite convincing to stay away.

I heard that 924's are much less prone to issues like the 944, being more based around VW/Audi parts and cheaper components. Is that true?

I'm considering buying one, the '944 a moneypit' has become too much of a meme to try and get an earnest opinion of on /o/. One guy here owned one, I think he rebuilt the engine once in like six years. Engine rebuilds are never fun but that's not ridiculous for a 30 year old cheap sports car. I've heard that the 924's engine is worse than the 944's, it at least makes less power.
