On a scale of 1 to 10, how important are the following factors in being successful as a wagekek:

>Intelligence
>Looks
>Social skills (minus looks)
>Contacts inside
>Contacts outside
>Starting age
>Getting higher degrees (MBAs, MFs, etc.)

Some of them may be conflictive, or a sub-factor, but whatever. It came out that way.

>Intelligence - 7.5
>Looks - 5 (Average)
>Social skills (minus looks) - 8.5
>Contacts inside - 9
>Contacts outside - 7
>Starting age - 3.5 (As long as you are in your early to mid 20s)
>Getting higher degrees (MBAs, MFs, etc.) - 6 (It helps)

Intelligence - 7

Looks - 5 (source: dad isn't the most handsome but has a high-end job) (dress nice and crisp and have a good breath)

Social skills - 8

Contacts inside - depends on your company, I'd say around 5 or 6

Contacts outside - 4 (its only a booster seat)

Starting age - obviously matters in terms of salary, but getting in probably only 3 or 4

Higher degrees - 7 or 8

Try to have a handful of the higher tiered ones.

5-6 Helpful, although hardwork and organization is much more important.

4-5 Helpful, although as clearly seen by many businessmen being *VERY VERY* far from 10/10 male models not so much.

10, very important.

Ex-NEET here. Industrial Engineering degree, 29 years old. Average-looking, p. smart but LAZY AS ALL HELL..., social skills seems to range from Hollywood celebrity to Columbine shooter; i.e.: people either love me or want to kill me.

Gonna get a job at EY as a consultant soon. The pay is average.

What's some definite pointers I should keep in mind for the first few days? Particularly given that I'm gonna be older than the rest of the other kids around (I do look like a 23-year old, though). Don't ask why it took so long to get a job - it just did.

1) work comes first. If they want to chat, fine, but remember that they will throw you under the bus at the first sign of trouble. Dont expect to receive or give favors for/from people that screw up.

2) Start making friends. Most college students could do your job and your boss knows it. Career longevity comes from removing as many reasons to fire you as possible. Offer to help with projects etc so you learn more quickly too.

3) Dont date at the office. Remember: remove all reasons for them to fire you....

Is it worth the effort?

Want to start putting money away for my 2 year old child's education.

Am I better off just setting up a small cap index fund on my own?

Curious if there are any older folks around with some experience doing this sort of thing...

In theory it's a good idea because you will save on taxes with the money you put in a 529. You do tie the money up though so if your kid ends up not going to college for whatever reason things can get kinda fucked. I would use it, but don't just go ham with the contributions like you would a 401k.

No - It doesn't keep up with the inflation rate for college tuition.

Better off putting the money elsewhere and get him involved with a sport at a young age so he can get an athletic scholarship. It will also deter him from becoming a fatass who plays video games and browses anime imageboards all day.
>>
Please check their investment plans. A lot of 529s are absolute shit and offer a return of like 2% maximum per year because they are just buying munis.

It can be worth it but you need a good one.

Also consider just having them take loans and then pay them off as a reward for graduating with a good gpa or something.

Hi folks. So I've read a few books on stocks and it was recommended by Bogle to invest in index funds for long term investments. But for short term speculating on specific stocks do you guys recommend just researching the fuck out of the company? I've read a few books about the different ways to analyze a stock, P/E, growth, value, etc. but also I understand geopolitics and the current events can also have an Impact. Basically my question if I go about this from an analytical approach is there more chance of a successful investment? Or is it just a who the fuck knows...

Basically, I would try to buy stocks that are oversold on bad news and still have good fundamentals.

I don't, honestly. I busted my ass of after graduating at my first job. I'd come in at 6AM and work hard to 5-7 PM and coming in on weekends. My bosses loved my hard work and dedication and I got a promotion, raises, my own office. I still come in early but I take long lunches and dick around a lot, but it still looks like I'm busting my ass off.

I'm sure if I got a new job elsewhere I'd bust my ass again until I established myself at my new employer but I'd probably get lazy once again.

Hey /biz/ is my plan realistic?
Make a million bucks through Ebay flipping, fx trading, stock trading, and other ventures.

Then reinvest said money into high dividend paying stocks and other investments that give out returns, then travel the world with what I make from that.

Is it possible?

Possible, but not probable. To win 1 million dollars you need a lot to start with.

If step one of your plan is "have a million bux" you might want to refine your plan.

>>1047198
What do you have that others don't?
Because if the answer is nothing, why isn't everyone else already following your plan?

>Women entrepreneurs who appear on ABC’s Shark Tank experience the same kind of unfair gender bias as they do in real-life Silicon Valley. Female contestants on the hit reality show receive fewer investments than male contestants do.
>According to Mashable, when they do get money, female-fronted companies receive significantly lower valuations than businesses headed by men. According to data compiled by Rock Health CEO Halle Tecco, male founders received an average valuation of nearly $1.7 million, while women founders received an average of just over $781,000.
>Studies have shown that venture capital firms that have women in senior positions are more likely to invest in companies led by women, so the show’s female contestants have better luck when the panel includes female investors. Real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran invests in companies led by women 48% of the time, while inventor Lori Grenier invests 29% of the time. “It perfectly reflects what we see in Silicon Valley,” Tecco told Mashable. She also said, “Studies show that men are judged on their potential, whereas women are judged on what they already have accomplished. This means more bets are being placed on unproven men than unproven women founders.”
>Tecco also points out the women on the show ask for less money than the males. “Something is happening during the negotiation where the sharks are driving the valuation down and women are willing to give up more of their company to close a deal,” she said.
>Ann Crady Weiss, an entrepreneur who appeared on Shark Tank for her startup Hatch Baby told Mashable she does believe that venture capital wants to make change. “The industry is interested in bringing underrepresented people to the table. Diversity does create more success. They’re going to do it because it leads to better outcomes.”

As a non finance major with no real experience :

Business Analyst for a consulting firm is possible. The rest not really.

You'd need a PhD to be seriously considered for an investment banking position. Probably a Masters to be considered for a position in the less glamorous financial services (insurance, payday loans etc...)

Seriously, stop this meme. Throw away your money on stocks while knowing nothing about the market is a great way to lose everything. Day trading in general doesn't generate great returns. As a regular investor you should be more dividend focused in your market investments and worry less about stock price.
