the greater fool theory doesn't apply because companies appreciate in value. the real losers are the workers getting paid less than the value the generate for equity holders, in that sense it is zero sum.

What have you done to earn passive income? I am pretty good at automation / web scarping and so on. I previously wrote a algo trading bot that can trade on CFD-platforms all day long (something they normally prevent you from doing as they want you to trade manually), before that I wrote a script that plays any given strategy in online-poker automatically. Normally I would just go out to lectures and stay at the library studying while my machine at home does its stuff all day long. The profits weren't extreme but I still make passively about $100/week and its more of a learning-experience...

Why don't more people choose to become medical doctors in the US? It's not even that hard to get into a low tier M.D. program (or even D.O.) and make a guaranteed $200,000+ after only 7 years out of college. Most other professions would only dream of advancing that quickly in their careers. You'd have to be in the top 1% of engineers or finance analysts to be able to pull that, whereas you are GUARANTEED that with an MD degree.

Then you can work for twenty years, end up with ~1 million net worth after paying your loans off and taxes by retirement.
