Are MBAs just as useless as English majors?
>>1320755
MBAs are largely about networking and building a large number of valuable contacts in different fields. You don't get an MBA unless you're already established in your chosen field (or at least you shouldn't). Like almost any additional qualification after a degree, its about adding value to yourself as an employee and leveraging yourself into greater positions of remuneration and responsibility.
>>1320775
Adding on this, Most if not all reputable schools will not accept students that do not have at least 2 years of work experience, so you shouldn't be able to get the MBA right away. It doesn't help if you did regardless
MBA is itt tech tier at this point. Every useless manager has one. You would be better served taking excel classes.
Is this legitimate investment advice?
>>1320735

greater rates of return can be had while still remaining semi-passive

Yes if you dont want to spend any time managing your investments.
In December I left Northern Illinois to move to Tennessee with my mom. I have no family besides her and she has none besides me and wanted me to come down so I've been down here and I feel like there is nothing for me. The women are either married, in long term relationships or hick as fuck/ugly. I am 22 years old and I know its probably time I moved out. I was moved out for 2 years in illinois but moved back to help her with the move and stuff. She wants me to stay here but I sort of want to go back up to illinois. I have no purpose or direction though. I was at school...

Anyone on /biz/ algorithm trade? How does one get started with this? Any resources or courses to recommend?

Do, but I have an Asian that lives next door that very well could be. Assuming, as unlikely as it is, that the Asian is both the sharpest mathematician and cooperative, how would I go about this?
>>1320704
I gave it a try a while ago. A halfarsed try but a try none the less. I tried making an algorithm that traded the companies in the s&p500 with trades lasting for 3-10 days. I got mixed results during testing and i had other things to do so i stopped working on it.
Now for the advice part:
You can get free historic days ohlc data from yahoo. This was also the reason i tried making an algorithm that makes trades over multiple days.
I suggest you try to make an algorithm for day trading because there's...

How much do you have in your savings account compared to how much you have invested?
I'm keeping £5k in my savings and invest everything else I get, but I'm considering just shitting a couple more grand into dividend paying stocks
always around $2000
I let most of my money work for me.. more money sitting in my savings account is dead money
>>1320648
would you say £2000 is a good sum to keep as an emergency? Where do you hold your money? I have invested in pic related and I'm thinking of chucking another 2 or 3 grand into it
I put in half my weekly pay into my savings, a quarter into stocks, and the remainder as disposable income.

>Santa Clara County's red-hot job market is more than just booming -- it has surged to a level not seen since the days of the dot-com boom. Fueled by a gain of 5,800 jobs in May, the South Bay ventured into record territory, reaching an all-time high for jobs and leading the Bay Area in employment growth last month, according to a state labor report released Friday.

so what do you suggest we do?
5048 plus 15 years of inflation and I might believe you.

You're high, Uber hasnt even IPOd yet. The money only dries up when investors stop getting paid and theyre still getting paid big time.
I can confirm the econony here is booming, however. I'm in highend construction and contractors are busier than I've seen since 2007

Hey biz. Just wondering what some of you think is going on with the stock market lately. This past week was a rough ride for a lot of biotech stocks. I'm at a loss as to what caused it and am a little worried about it continuing.
Would love to hear your thoughts, advice, memes, etc.
Also, what is your outlook on 401k's? I mean I've done the basics by just checking the past 15-20 year performance but I'm wondering if there is something else I should check.

How much do you earn on airbnb /biz/?
I started renting out my cabin for 50usd per night and I´m soon fully booked the next couple of months.
not worth the stress
>>1320312
Definitely is. Monthly downpayment on the cabin is 100usd. Total cost was 23k usd. So I can actually buy cabins and earn money on doing so.
i think its bretty good so far.. is there any horror stories about it? Like, the tenants reking your cabin, after a hard party

Do independent developers still make money off of mobile apps?
No. They are all just made for fun. That's why all of them are free and have no ads in them.
>>1320248
tell that to flappy bird guy tho
>>1320256
I think he was being sarcastic. Anyways, I'm interested in transitioning into mobile dev. I do webdev freelance for a living now and it is still a job and it sucks dick. I want to get revenue from advertisements. I'm planning on just making some nicer versions of infoapps I see to get the basics of development/marketing down then try to make a game that will go viral.
