Can you make good money in the military?
I only walked away with 20k after 4 years. I also did two deployments, no bonus, lived out in town with gf, and partied a lot. But if you play it right, you could be a shut in, live in the barracks, claim dietary habbits for extra money on food, contract marriage (spouse gets free health care you get separation pay and BAH) sell plasma (worth more after vaccinations) etc you could do it big
Also never take leave and sell it back 2.5 days a accumulates per month. Charge 50 bucks to work someones weekend/holiday duty. Get as much college while in the service (its free)

Alright, I guess this is the closest board to ask this on and have it be relevant.
Long story short: leased a car almost 3 years ago. I want to keep the car and finance it. My dealership is calling me nonstop to get me in and look at my options. I am trying to avoid all the mess and just contact the bank with whom I have the lease from directly and avoid the whole ordeal. I am not worried about saving hundreds or even a thousand dollars by waiting around and going through the dealer. I just want to finance it and be done with them.

What does /biz/ think about commission jobs? I make 10 an hour in a kitchen and I dont feel that suits my strong points. My customer service is excellent, at every job everyone always tells me how good I am at it, and I have a huge amount of empathy, and for some reason I feel like I'd do well in a commission based job. What do you guys think? Is there anything I should know ahead of time? Any stories?

Is it possible to live in a grocery store? There's a building for sale in town that used to be a K-Mart. It's selling for $150K which is like 3x cheaper than the average house around here unless I want to live in the ghetto. Renting is nonexistent outside of the ghetto. Recently got a diploma (21 years old) and I now have an office job paying ~2500$ monthly after taxes. Minus a 420$ car payment (insurance and lease). Call it 2k.
I have 13.5k chilling in a chequing account. How can I invest this and get to a point where I out a down payment on a house? I figure I'll need around 100k to get going on this.

Do you have any other debt to pay down first? Do you have an emergency fund (at least 3 months expenses) somewhere accessible? If you're not looking to buy a house for a while, I'd put that money into a GIC or TFSA or something while you save up.

Problem with GICs is the the return is garbage unless you stick in like 100k. I don't think thats something that could work for me.
Theres also RSPs as I can take out up to 25k for a down payment on a house, catch is I;d have to pay it all back in.
