Hey bros, I plan on reapplying for a Teller's position with Citi again soon, after initially failing the Teller's exam a couple of months back. Any Tellers care to share tips on how to pass it? I think what fucked me over was how I'd handle customer situations. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, I'd really like to work in a bank.

I started my banking career as a teller. What were some of the questions you came across on the test?
>>

Not op but where do you stand now? How many years? Considering going from customer service to teller to climb my way up.
>>

I've been in banking since I graduated high school. Was in branch land for about 3 years (teller --> service manager) before making the jump to private banking as a credit analyst. Been doing that ever since. Total banking experience is 14 years, 11 years doing credit analyst work.

tldr: want to properly allocate ~4k
The only Debit card/ banking I've ever had is a student account connected to parent's. Now I have a bunch of checks, and want to deposit/use it in a way they won't know about but also may grow it or store it properly. Live by myself/am21+. Do I just pick a bank that seems alright and start a new checking/ saving account? start a credit card? buy some gold? How do I adult money life?

Open a checking account, all else will stem from there.
>>
4k is a decent emergency fund. Just keep it liquid in a chequing account
>>

>How2AdultMoney for absolute morons

1. Get a job, how much you make from this job will affect all of the following. If you already have a job, proceed to the next step.
2. Figure out how much take home pay you make per year (if you get paid biweekly you generally figure this by multiplying your paycheck by 26). If you work for any sort of reasonable company you should automatically have enough money withheld for taxes so don't worry about that. If you get paid in cash or work for a sleazy company make sure to set aside enough from each check to pay your taxes. Whatever is left is your TAKE HOME PAY.
3. Figure out how much you can afford to spend on housing and a vehicle. In general you should spend no more than a third (33%) of your take home pay on lodging and no more than a fifth (20%) on your vehicle. That includes payments on the vehicle itself, insurance, and gas. If you are currently spending more than that amount on either of those things seek to adjust your housing or vehicle to match your budget, this may mean moving to a smaller residence or trading for a cheaper car. These are also upper limits. Ideally you will come in well below them.
4. Start saving an emergency fund. Your emergency fund should be equivalent to six months of salary. This will obviously be a long term goal so set aside 25%-33% of your take home pay every month to save towards it and just keep going for however many years it takes till you get there.
5. If your company offers a 401k you should take advantage of it, even if it doesn't offer a matching contribution. Start contributing at LEAST 3% of your salary to it but as much as you can tolerate. It's better to get into the habit and learn to live on the smaller amount than trying to find room in a budget for it later. Ideally, once you've got your emergency fund finished, this should increase to between 15-20% of your salary. If you want to retire, this is about what you need to save.

Do any if you have experience with futures trading? What was your experience?
I have been paper trading for a couple days now and I've made about $4,000 on commission.
It seems like something I could be good at after a while and a lot of learning, just wanted to know if any of you had any advice.

So I'm graduating highschool next month and while most of my friends are going to college, I plan on starting my own business by next year. I never agreed with the way formal education was set up with so many flaws in today's educational system which I can go on and on about. Most people I assume go to college to take the safe road in life because they think a piece of fancy paper will give them job security for life with benefits. (Which is funny to me because many college students don't even have a job lined up after graduation( not to mention the shit ton of debt they'll be paying till they're 40. School is designed to create employees. They tell us "get a 4.0, go to college, study, and everything's going to be alright". That's why people say "go to school to get a good job". I don't like the idea of someone dictating my life telling me how much I will get paid for this many hours living paycheck to paycheck, doing the same task every day. It's like people are robots no wonder people get tired of their lives. but they tolerate it because well someone has to pay the bills. Most people want to be wealthy, but don't want to put the effort in like i am. They make the mistake of working for money rather than working to create assets which will later make money work for you. I'm willing to sacrifice a lot and go through hell where most people won't go, to later live the life that everyone wants. but I don't want to pay thousands of dollars so I can take pointless classes I don't need then read a lot of words on how to create a business. Wouldn't it be better to get out there and start and find mentors while learning along the way? I prefer to be self educated. I read a lot and nowadays with the internet, you can literally learn the same things in one year than in four years at college for FREE. Obviously you need college to be a doctor or lawyer etc. however most things I believe can be self taught. My goal is to be a millionaire entrepreneur and investor before 30.

Why would anybody let you borrow their stock to short it? If you're right and the stock drops in value and they would want to ditch it, they can't and lose money. You're basically fucking over your broker every time you short stock and are right. How is this beneficial to them?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Because not everyone is in it for the short game. They might be holding this stock for 20 years and it'll have a long upward trend in that time.

They also charge you a fee(interest basically) to borrow their stock.

Further, if they want their stock back so they can sell it, they'll tell you to return it.

The only people that really lose are the suckers you buy and sell the stock to.
>>
because trading would be less honest if shorting were removed
>>
>>1239967
Is shorting even done outside of rare circumstances?

I thought most brokers would tell you to suck their cocks if you barely put any offers in

Hey /biz/ I got about 15k sitting in a TFSA and have no idea what I should do with it. I was thinking about investing it all in SPY, BRK-B, FB, and TD.TO stocks, but frankly I don't trust the state of the market and am hesitant to do so.

What would you do with 15k?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Id suggest getting a realllllly good set of knee pads.

You can get some good ones for like £80 $140ish, that will be the first step in turning £80 into another 15g.
>>
>>1239876
>BRK-B
What a sucker's stock.

Don't EVER buy BRK-B. It's artificially manipulated to always be weaker than BRK-A and pays no dividend.

Warren Buffett is a piece of shit, and let me tell you why:
He gives bullshit meaningless advice to the masses, talks about strategies he'd use, and things he does.

But it's all talk. What he says and what he does are two VERY different things. Fuck that dickhead and fuck the horse he rode in on.

does anyone have any experience with series 3, X, X, XX, X etc. certifications? I'm very sociable and think sales would be a great place for me, especially in financial instruments. I got tricked by the inside sales jew and found out that what i really wanted was "OUTSIDE" sales so as to deal more directly with customers.

my worry is that my degree is not in finance, and I have no experience, so i arrived at "get muh licenses" after a bit of googling.

thoughts?

you need a FINRA registered firm to "sponsor" you to take the exams. they're for people who are already in and need it for regulatory reasons, not for people who are looking for break in.
>>
>>1239851
"The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) administers several professional certification examinations that do not require sponsorship; these include the series 3, 30, 31, 32, 33, 63 and 65 exams. In order to apply you must file Form U-10.

The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam, administered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc., does not require sponsorship. Additionally, the CFA Institute does not require a sponsor for the Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA) program.

The Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and Energy Risk Professional (ERP) exams, administered by the Global Association of Risk Professionals, do not require sponsorship."

>>1239856
A CFA charter won't mean anything unless your colleagues also hold that certification so you can measure dicks in the men's room. Also, you have to be sponsored by a FINRA registered firm. I don't care what you read on the internet, try to sign up by yourself and see what happens.

Hello /biz/.

I live in Poland, I am almost 25yo and I work as Municipal Police Guard which gives me $380 a month. I can save monthly up to $60-80. I have already saved $1150 in bank account and $100 in coins.

What can I do with my approx. $1250 that I have? I want to invest it for a year to get some interest or just buy some estate like car garage and rent it.

Can you help a poor bro that wants to work hard and build wealth?

Going to be graduating with Bachelors in Finance next year.

If you could suggest a city to migrate to what would it be? Don't like overpriced places like NYC, Boston, SF.

Also like the prospect of owning a nice house in suburb. A house which actually has a decent sized lawn. ex- 0.5 acres

Suggestions? Assuming I can even get a job.

You might need a reality check.

Colorado is probably the best mix of Cheap and Good
pure numbers

comparables include Texas, chicago, florida
each with its own cons in order, its texas, blacks, crazy.

I moved to Boston after living in Springfield my whole life four years ago and I wish I'd done it earlier. You'll do fine in Boston. The higher cost of living is worth it when you're living in a decent city that attracts the best and brightest instead of a depressing shithole full of hopeless people.
